With the advent of compact linear fluorescent technology in the late 1970s, Belfer was the first manufacturer to develop compactfluorescent strip lighting for illuminating architectural details such as coves, ceilings, soffits and valances. It remains a primaryfocus of the company to this day.
In 1990, Belfer again led the industry with theintroduction of the first field curvable compactlinear fluorescent, its renowned FX™ series. For the first time, the fixtures could be curvedin the field, not in the factory.
In 1994, Belfer improved its field curvable linewith the introduction of its FX2™ line. TheFX2 line is modular in design, meeting thedemands of actual job-site conditions forcurved lighting of any length, to very tightradii. At the same time, we introduced ourpatented Ramp™ system, which eliminatesany possibility of shadows while increasinglight output 20%.
Because “the best never rest,” Belferinnovated the lighting industry’s only integralstraight and field curvable compact linearfluorescent system, the NX2/FX2™ Series.NX2/FX2 allows complete integration ofstraight and field curvable lengths in virtuallyany configuration. We ship custom lightingfrom stock.
All Belfer products are designed, built andperformance tested to the highest standardsin our modern U.S. plant. From concept, toselection of materials and components, toproduction, the quality of our product andyour project comes first. UL and CUL listingsensure electrical safety and adherence tocodes.
We cordially invite your inquiry.

![Page 6: OOLS FOR THE L IGHTING P ROFESSIONALbelfer.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Belfer-Comp-Fluor.pdf · With the advent of compact linear fluorescent technology in the late 1970s, Belfer](https://reader033.vdocuments.site/reader033/viewer/2022042810/5f9d48a071469b5f9b3df5b1/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
The NX2/FX2 System offers many distinct installation and maintenance advantages:
• The NX2/FX2 system is through wired…Just connect wires and screw joints together. No “pulling” of wire or cable required.
• The NX2/FX2 system has external mounting clips…No need to open units to secure the fixture to the mounting surface.
• The NX2/FX2 system provides for easy ballast replacement…For service, the top cap lifts up, allowing access to the ballast.
• The NX2/FX2 system reduces freight costs…Its field curvable design ships straight in standard lengths for most common carriers.
The NX2/FX2™ Seamless Design System is a fully
linkable, formed aluminum system that allows complete
integration of straight and field curvable lengths in
virtually any configuration. NX2™ is the suffix for
Belfer’s straight, non-curving compact fluorescent
sections. FX2™ is the suffix for field curvable sections.
Together, they can be joined to form a single, seamless,
continuous system.
NX2 & FX2 can be specified as lamp up or lamp down. NX2S & FX2S
are specified as lamp in or lamp out. All are available in standard lengths
including individual add-on modules to complete a run.
Field curvable means no need for field measurements, no fabrication sheets, no set-up charges
for custom products. All you need to know are the inside and outside radii of the coves. The minimum
cove radius is listed for each lamp size in each lamp configuration.

1. CHOOSE THE PROPER LAMP
2. COMMON FIXTURE PLACEMENTS
Whatever your objective for cove lighting, maximizing the output of the light is most desirable. Fixture placementin relation to the aperture (the opening) of the cove is the factor which most affects output. The most commonimpediment to light output is poor placement of fixtures in the cove.
The closer the lamps are to the aperture of the cove, the more light will escape the cove.

The Belfer Compact Fluorescent Cove Lighting System begins with identifying the proper lamp and desired lumenoutput. If the need is to create a soft glow above the cove, low wattage compact fluorescent lamps should beselected. If the need is to create ambient light below the cove, a higher wattage lamp should be used. The BelferSystem is available in 9W and 13W twin tube, 26W quad, 32W and 42W hex and 18W, 39W, 40W and 50W biaxlamps. Select the appropriate wattage, lamp and lumen output… this will determine which Belfer system is right foryour needs.
The following chart shows the lumen output per lamp, lamps per foot, lumen output per foot and lamp life of eachlamp offered based on Belfer standard lamp spacing.
Placing fixtures deep inside the cove, against thereturn, results in maximum light being trapped inside.
Placing fixtures deep inside the cove, against the farwall can create shadows on the inner wall.

For coves above 9 feetuse the horizontal line ofsight or, as an alternative, use the actual line ofsight. This is determinedfrom a point farthest awayfrom cove at a height ofseven feet, while the coveis still visible.
3. PERFORMANCE FIXTURE PLACEMENTS - MAXIMIZE LIGHT OUTPUT FROM COVE
To maximize light output, fixtures must be close tothe line of sight. For covesunder 9 feet from the floor, use the horizontal line ofsight, by drawing ahorizontal line from the topof the return to the insideof the cove.

A matte white finish inside the cove increases light reflectivity and reduces light discoloration while increasing efficiency.Walls and ceilings that are matte white produce optimum results.
In addition to proper placement to maximize light output, care should be taken to eliminate or minimize shadows. This canbe accomplished by maintaining the minimum distance between the light source and the nearest visible surface to the light.

NORMAL POWER FACTOR (N OR NPF) BALLASTS:Quality Normal Power Factor ballasts are primarily used in installations where minimum space isavailable.
HIGH POWER FACTOR (H OR HPF) BALLASTS:Our standard High Power Factor ballasts carry a Class A sound rating and offer a Power Factorrating of .90 or better. High Power Factor ballasts consume less energy than Normal Power Factor(NPF) ballasts due to capacitive power factor correction.
ELECTRONIC (E OR ELB) BALLASTS:Our standard Electronic ballasts also carry a Class A sound rating and are quieter and lessexpensive to operate than High Power Factor (HPF) or Normal Power Factor (NPF) ballasts.Electronic ballasts are able to start lamps at lower temperatures and are more efficient than HighPower Factor ballasts due to high frequency operation.
DIMMING (D OR DIM) BALLASTS:Belfer is an authorized Lutron Dimming ballast OEM. Lutron provides one of the most popular andreliable Dimming ballasts in the industry. These ballasts provide a dimming range of 100% to10%. Although Lutron Dimming ballasts are standard in many of our products, other qualitydimming sources are available. Please consult our sales department for more information.

SUBSTITUTION OF BALLASTS:Based on our quality assured testing of ballasts, unless specified, we select ballasts at ourdiscretion. Of course, the specification may indicate a particular type or brand of ballast suitablefor the installation. This may adjust costs and lead times for our products. At the customersrequest, we will also install ballasts supplied to us by an authorized ballast distributor. Ifrequested, we may also ship fluorescent products without ballasts.
BALLAST WARRANTIES:At Belfer, we supply the best grade of ballasts from top rated manufacturers. Ballasts are coveredby warranties issued by the ballast manufacturer.
