Youth for the Quality Care of Animals
Online Training – Walkthrough PDF
Monterey County Fair and Events Center
This walkthrough is for the Youth for the Quality Care of
Animals online training. This training is one of two options for the
mandatory 2018 Livestock Exhibitor Training, and must be
completed by all market exhibitors excluding junior and senior
poultry and open junior rabbits. If you participated in the 2017
Livestock Exhibitor Trainings at either Monterey, Santa Cruz, or
San Benito County Fairs, you are exempt from this year’s training.
This online training is through the nationally recognized
Youth for the Quality Care of Animals program (YQCA.) YQCA is
a multi-species program from ages 8 to 21. The exhibitor will be in
charge of paying all fees ($12 per course.) The core pillars of the
training are Food Safety, Animal Well-Being, and Character
Development.
If you choose to participate in the online training, you must
print the certificate found at the end of this training and either e-
mail it to [email protected] or mail it to the entry
office at 2004 Fairground Rd, Monterey, CA 93940 by July 31st,
2018.
If you have any questions, please call at 831-372-5863 or e-
mail Exhibits Representative Alyssa Wygal at

Let’s Get Started!
\
Shown above is the main website page for YQCA. To get started, scroll down until you see the
button below.
Click here to create an account with YQCA.
On the left side, there is a sign in compatible with 4-HOnline. For the sake of this exercise, we
will be demonstrating the Sign-Up option on the left which can be used by all exhibitors.
To the left is an example of the account
creation process. After your information is
inputted, create the account and confirm
the e-mail used.
Once you’ve created your account, sign back in! Next up: course registration and the payment
process.
After creating your account, you’ll
gain access to a portal with several
course options. Pick the course
matched to the exhibitors age as
of the last calendar year. Second,
purchase the course under web-
based training to the left. And
lastly, add credit card info and
purchase.
Now that you’ve registered and paid
for your course, click ‘Go To Course’
to access all of the educational
modules that you will need to
complete to receive your certificate.
Each module will have three parts:
‘Knowledge Builder,’ ‘Skills Lab,’ and
‘Quiz.’ Each part is designed to
teach about quality care in an
engaging and interactive fashion.
‘Knowledge Builder’ is oriented
towards providing the information
on each topic. ‘Skills Lab’ lets you
test how well you know about each
topic. And lastly, ‘Quiz’ is a 10-
question test on the information
presented earlier in the module. To
advance and receive the certificate,
all quizzes must be completed with
a score of 80% or higher.
To get started, click one of the links
in the portal!
Knowledge Builder
Using this module as an example, click the arrows at the beginning to choose a topic to learn
about. Using your mouse, interact with the module by dragging and clicking.
In this example, the Knowledge Builder is teaching about vectors and diseases in livestock.
Ocassionally, it will ask for answers to questions. Green checks mark a correct answer, and if the
answer is wrong, the module will go over the information. Once the Knowledge Builder is
complete, green checks will show that it is completed in the portal.
Skills Lab
At the end of each lesson, you have the option of reviewing the information or progressing
forward. If you choose to progress forward, access other lessons by clicking ‘Back to Course’
at the top left hand corner of the screen.
During the Skills Lab, you have a chance to test your knowledge of the topic at hand before
the Quiz. In this example, it is on Biosecurity. Just like with the Knowledge Builder, this
lesson is interactive and relies on your responses.
Once you’ve finished all lessons
of the Skills Builder, study up
and review on the topic before
the final part of the module:
the Quiz!
Quiz During the Quiz portion
of the module, you must
score 8 questions out of
10 to complete the
module. If less than 80%
are correct, the quiz can
only be attempted in an
hour to allow time to
practice and review the
information.
Finishing
Up Once all modules are
completed, signified by all
lessons checked off on
the portal, print off the
certificate at the top. An
example of the certificate
is on the right. Along with
accessing the certificate
on the portal, you will
also receive a copy by e-
mail.
Once you have completed
the training, e-mail or
mail the certificate to the
Monterey County Fair
Entry Office by July 31st,
2018.
