• DEAR PHOTOGRAPH is photography where people take photos from the past and place them on top of the same location further in the future (present day).

• The site that we had found that was to do with DEAR PHOTOGRAPH was of competition entries following the same style. http://dearphotograph.com/

PHOTOGRAPH

• SLEEVEFACE is a photograph that takes a record cover that has a face on which can be placed on top of someone's body to make it look like them. For example look at image 2.

• Again we have found a site where people can upload their own images to enter to a competition.

SIMILARITIES

• Something that is very similar about these styles of photography is the way they both involve past photographs that are layered on top of current locations or photographs.

• They both have to be lined up very carefully and precise to create the unique effect they give.

DIFFERENCES

• The SLEEVEFACE is a fun image to look at because you know that its not actually the person on the record cover even though it looks so real. Different to this, DEAR PHOTOGRAPH uses real life past events which creates a more meaningful effect.

• In our opinion, DEAR PHOTOGRAPH captures a point of view shot from where we can clearly see the photographers hand holding the photograph. However SLEEVEFACE has the model holding the record cover creating a less personal response.

COMPARE AND

CONTRAST

Our reaction to DEAR PHOTGRAPH is that it is more of a personal response from the photographers point of view. It made us think about the story behind the photograph that was layered on top.

When we first saw the image we thought that the technique used was clever because they are well lined. Also we thought that it must have been quite time consuming to find the exact location.

Our reaction towards SLEEVEFACE was slightly different because the pictures entertained us a lot more. We had a sudden response when we saw the images as they were much more playful. Some of the record covers are bizarre which creates a surreal effect against the simple and ordinary backgrounds.
