1 Registration for Online Password Reset

Click on the link to the Online Password Reset site https://pwreg.gcal.ac.uk

If you are connecting to the password reset service from Off Campus you will be asked to login to the GCU

domain. Enter your username ( caledoinian\yourusername ) and current password.

You will reach the following welcome screen.

Click Next.

Enter your current GCU domain password to verify your identity.



Click Next.

You are then required to provide answers to 4 security questions. These questions and the answers you

provide will be used to confirm your identity when you use the reset facility.

Enter your security answers. All 4 must be answered

Click Next.



You are now registered to use the Online Password Reset facility. Please remember the answers to the security

questions.

Now that you are registered you can use either the online password reset facility or the ’Forgot your

password?’ link on the login screen of any GCU PC.

2 Reset Your Password Online

When you have been notified that your password is about to expire you can use the Online Password Reset to

reset your password.

Click on the link to the Online Password Reset site https://pwreset.gcal.ac.uk

You will reach the following welcome screen.

Click Next.



You will then be prompted to answer two of the 4 security questions you set when you registered.

Enter your answers to the questions.

Click Next.

If you successfully answer the questions, your identity will be confirmed and you will be allowed to reset your

password.

Enter your new password, remembering the password regulations documented here

Re- enter the password to confirm.

Click Next.



Your password will now be reset to the password you entered.

3 Reset Your Password from Logon screen

PLEASE NOTE MAC USERS AND ENCRYPTED PC USERS WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS SERVICE

You can also reset your password direct from any GCU Staff or Student PC.

From your main PC logon screen you will notice there is a new ‘Forgot you password?’ link. If this link does not

appear on your GCU PC, please contact the IT helpdesk.

Enter your username in the user name field.

Then click on the ‘Forgot you password?’ link highlighted below.



You will then be directed to Microsoft Forefront’s identity Manager security questions page. Please answer the

questions and click Next.

You will then be promoted to enter a new password. Enter your new password and then re-enter to confirm.

Your new password should conform to the Information Security Password regulations documented here

Click Reset to change your password.



Your password has now been reset, click Finish to exit Forefront Identity Manager. You can now attempt to

login using your new password.



4 Email Notifications

To notify you that your password is about to expire, you will receive email notifications from GCU Information

Services 14 days before you password expires, again at 7 days and a further final notification 3 days before

your password expires. They will look like the notifications below. These notifications will always come from

the email address [email protected]. If you receive any email asking you to reset your password that doesn’t

originate from this email address, please contact the IT Helpdesk.

4.1 14 Day and 7 Day Expiry Notification

From address: [email protected]

Username: (Your domain User id)

Your current GCU domain password is due to expire in the next 14 or 7 days.

Visit http://www.gcu.ac.uk/forefront and follow the ‘Resetting your password’ instructions to reset your

domain password.

If you have not already registered for Self-Service Password Reset, you can register by clicking the above link

and following the ‘Registration’ instructions.

If you do not reset your password before the expiry date, you will no longer have access to the majority of

GCU systems.

If you have configured a mobile device, laptop etc to connect to eduroam and/or your University email

account, you will be required to update that device with your new domain password.

4.2 3 Day Expiry Final Notification

Final Password Expiry Notification

From address: [email protected]

Username: (Your domain User id)

Your current GCU domain password will expire in the next 3 days.

Visit http://www.gcu.ac.uk/forefront and follow the ‘Resetting your password’ instructions to reset your

domain password.

You must reset your password before it expires or you will no longer have access to the majority of GCU

systems.

If you have not already registered for Self-Service Password Reset, you can register by clicking the above link

and following the ‘Registration’ instructions.
