Everyday people have a critical role to play in finding a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and yet their voices remain largely absent from the peace process. We empower the Palestinian and Israeli moderate majorities who support two states to hold their elected officials accountable to bring about an end to the conflict. Through OneVoice, young grassroots activists in Israel and Palestine are equipped with the knowledge and skills to be heard as they build momentum and a platform of support for the two-state solution locally and internationally.

Rising from the dust of the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas and the recent renewal of violence in Jerusalem, Israelis and Palestinians are left questioning the viability of two states standing side-by-side. Further complicating matters are the internal divisions within each society and the potential for elections in both Israel and Palestine in 2015. The bloodied past days are indicative of the pervasive frustration with the present circumstances and the lack of a meaningful and realistic nonviolent vehicle for change.

As OneVoice moves forward into the coming year, we intend to fill this void and face the austere challenges ahead by strengthening our nonviolent grassroots base; a base that can be activated when elections occur. Our bold strategy deploys top organising skills, cutting-edge social media techniques, and a significant new, well-trained and well-organised network of volunteer activists working in parallel in Israel and Palestine to create a fresh political dynamic that will reverse the current toxic status quo. Such an approach has proved effective before: OneVoice Palestine’s 2006 “Get Out the Vote” campaign helped prompt a 70% voter turnout; OneVoice Israel’s 2013 “Wake Up Daddy” video went viral with a million views as it urged Israelis to vote for parties that support two states just in time for elections. The time has come again for a strong political mobilisation of the moderates on both sides.

Capitalising on the intersection in Israeli public discourse of economy and the occupation, OneVoice Israel (OVI) has launched a nationwide campaign and multimedia effort that underscores

the inextricable link between the two. The message of the “Peace, It Also Pays Off” campaign was further highlighted with OVI’s November 13th conference at the Einav Centre in Tel Aviv. Over 500 Israelis packed the auditorium to hear political heavyweights like Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni, Opposition Leader Isaac Herzog, and former Shin Bet chief Yaacov Peri speak to these pressing issues. Other speakers included U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro, Meretz Leader MK Zehava Galon, and journalists Ben Caspit and Narhum Barnea; as well as Mohammed Darawshe,OneVoice Co-Founder and Director of Planning, Equality, and Shared Society at Givat Haviva.

In parallel, 150 Palestinian activists gathered on November 15th to commemorate Palestine’s declaration of independence by planting trees near Hebron on lands threatened by Israeli confiscation and settler violence. This protest is part of OneVoice Palestine’s ongoing “Wake Up, What is Your Role?” campaign launched earlier this year.

These parallel efforts display our revitalised, data-driven, strategic approach to empower and train senior Youth Leaders to spearhead a multi-tiered grassroots organising network on both sides of the Green Line. Together, our team continues to work tirelessly to keep alive the dream of a two-state solution.

NEWSTRATEGIES

In response to the current environment surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,OneVoice will begin launching our new strategic plan to achieve two states. These new endeavours do not represent a pivotal shift away from our traditional focus on youth-oriented grassroots activities, but rather an informed, data-driven approach that builds on our past successes to cultivate and activate primed audiences. Our three-phase strategy is designed to build capacity, mobilise centrist neighbourhoods with calls to action, commence a media voter mobilisation campaign in Israel, and reopenour office in Gaza as we expand our presence in Palestine.

In Israel, the principal goal of the strategy is to do whatever is possible to make sure thatthe next Israeli national election is focused on expeditiously resolving the conflict. We willconcentrate our energies on the 1.5 million centrist Israeli voters who historically have held the balance of power in a coalition government. Our strategy will enable us to develop thecapacity, visibility, organising skills, and communications expertise to make sure thiskey constituency is motivated and effectively mobilised to place swiftly resolving thePalestinian-Israeli conflict as the main priority. We will introduce these Israelis to the thousands of moderate Palestinians via a novel media and communications campaign, and develop

campaign-style advocacy calls to action to enlist their support in opposing the status quo. Such change is possible if the election-determining Israeli centre is compelled to act, demanding a renewed focus by the candidates on this matter.

In Palestine, with the absence of a foreseeable election, we will undertake initiatives to pressure Palestinian leadership into meaningful negotiations while encouraging them to avoid taking steps that would impair a negotiated two-state solution. We will target seven swing communities wherein we will restore hope and trust in the two-state solution by loudly opposing violence, while working toward negotiations or future elections. Although much of our initiative will be in the West Bank, we intend to re-open our Gaza office which was forced to close last summer during Operation Protective Edge.

With the Palestinian Authority assuming more administrative control of Gaza, our strategy must take into account these new realities and the necessity of re-introducing Gaza’s citizens to the value of a two-state solution. On both sides we will amplify our work with a communications plan that demonstrates to Israelis and Palestinians the existence of a viable, trustworthy partner while implementing the Snowflake grassroots organising model, pictured right.

The Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) trains promising young Israelis and Palestinians to become engaged grassroots activists and provides a critical, constructive outlet for the current youth frustration stemming from the existing political status quo. The Youth Leadership Programme features a unique structure with two mainstream, nationalistic movements working in parallel in both Israel and Palestine. Emphasis is placed on participants gaining the skills to become successful political advocates for the two-state solution, mitigating conflict at the grassroots level by mobilising the moderate, non-violent majority in their communities. Youth Leaders spearhead unique activities— from town hall meetings that build consensus for tough compromises, to public awareness campaigns that underscore the urgency of a peace agreement, to initiatives that pressure leaders to take action to move the peace process forward.

Through participation in OneVoice’s Youth Leadership Programme, young Israelis and Palestinians are not only equipped

with the essential skills needed to become future institutional change makers, but also with the confidence and inspiration needed to realise the potential they hold within. The personal influence of the programme is significant—as Palestinian Chapter Leader, Amro Brigith said, OneVoice has served as the “path to changing my life and Palestinian life.” In parallel, OneVoice Israel Regional Coordinator Elad Laor reflected that the programme has “concrete and significant impact on several levels.” OneVoice Youth Leaders are instrumental to shaping the future of Israel and Palestine into one that is both peaceful and prosperous.

This April, OneVoice Israel (OVI) launched its “Peace, It Also Pays Off” campaign. The ongoing campaign mobilises everyday Israelis to propel their leaders toward the two-state solution by reminding them of what is at stake and the choice Israel faces between continued conflict or a more secure and prosperous future.

OUR CAMPAIGNS IN PARALLELThis year, OneVoice launched the following campaigns in

Israel and Palestine as part of an effort to support the negotiations, both of which were backed by the

U.S. State Department and additionally made possible through funds received

from the Skoll Foundation.

Rolled out in November of 2013, OneVoice Palestine (OVP) launched a parallel campaign to rally support for Palestinian negotiators and wipe away the apathy surrounding Palestinian involvement in the decisions impacting their everyday lives. To start, OVP chapters across the West Bank unfurled a banner over 1,000 metres long in the Jordan Valley signalling that peace is possible.

This August, OVI supporters gathered to urge Israelis to support “Abbas not Hamas” - lest they squander the opportunity presented by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ non-violent and pro two-state solution agenda.

“ABBAS NOTHAMAS”

OUR CAMPAIGNS IN PARALLELThe “Abbas Not Hamas” and “Unity” campaigns we launched in

response to Operation Protective Edge in Gaza. In Israel, our aim was to harness the people’s frustration in the

untenable situation with Hamas. In Palestine, we sought to build unity behind a government that supports a two-

state solution and an end to the status quo through

negotiations.

In parallel to OVI, OVP activists across Hebron, Nablus, Bethlehem, Qalqilia, Jericho, and Jenin launched the Unity campaign. The campaign reasserted non-violent resistance and support for the national leadership as the keys to successfully ending the occupation and securing a Palestinian state. The

campaign also aimed to emphasise that the Jordan Valley is to remain under Palestinian control. Activists engaged with the local communities to encourage continued support for the conversation online and in the streets.

OUTREACH & EDUCATION

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMING

OneVoice Europe’s Outreach and Education Programme is transforming the attitudes of school students and inspiring constructive adult activism on the issue of Israel-Palestine in the United Kingdom. Four speaking tours have been conducted over the past year, which brought eight young Palestinians and Israelis to the UK. Additional sessions and events were made possible using a live video link to speakers inIsrael and Palestine. Over 2,000 people have participated in the discussions and educational programmes in 2013-14, with over 400 still engaged with Israelis and Palestinians online. Twenty of these best and brightest young minds have since been trained to go out and in turn activate their peer network.

Our 90-minute school sessions have included activities to promote general conflict understanding and conflict resolution and the application of these principles to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The sessions have encouraged exploration of a variety of possible solutions, while giving some background on the historical narrative of each side on the issues that lie at the heart of the conflict. Real-life experiences and aspirations of people who are living through the

conflict have also been featured. These stories were either shown on video, or told in person by our visiting Israeli and Palestinian Youth Leaders from the region.

Students also benefit from the unique opportunity to ask questions directly to those people livingin the region and/ or those involved in working for conflict resolution in Israel/Palestine.

This March a group of twenty-two supporters from the U.K. and U.S. joined OneVoice staff for an unforgettable four-day journey through Palestine and Israel. From private briefings with heads of state to grassroots encounters with activists, delegates had the unique opportunity to experience firsthand the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on both sides of the Green Line.

During the week the group met with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials including Member of Knesset Yitzhak Herzog, former head of Shin

Bet Yuval Diskin, Palestinian Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa, and Bethlehem Mayor Vera Baboun.

The trip served as an important forum to inspire leaders of the international community to take action and support the Israeli and Palestinian Youth Leaders who remain steadfast in their commitment to making the two-state solution a reality.

Voices from the march 2014 Delegation:

“I had the great privilege to be part of the 2014 OneVoice delegation to Israel and Palestine.

I was amazed by the access to senior policy makers on all sides of the political spectrum.

OneVoice has clearly earned respect on all sides.”

– Greg Kaldor, New York

“For me, the OneVoice Delegation was a unique and transformative experience.

The unprecedented access to many of the important players on both sides of the

conflict was remarkable, but even more so was meeting and hearing from many of the

inspired and inspiring young people on both sides working for a just and better future for

both peoples. I returned far more informed and more determined in my support for

OneVoice and all that it seeks to achieve.” – Lawrence Radley, London

“OneVoice’s itinerary was ambitious; its impressive access to a wide spectrum of

Israeli and Palestinian politicians, influential businessmen and women, military and

security advisers, negotiators, journalists, diplomats and activists on both sides

provided an incredible and unique insight; we saw something of the conditions of daily

life in Ramallah, Bethlehem and Sderot with fascinating delegates from diverse

backgrounds. The experience was truly thought-provoking with no option but to

confront some perhaps inconvenient truths.” – Denise Joseph, London

The principal focus of fundraising is to support work undertaken by OVI and OVP, and to run Outreach and Education programming here in the UK. Trustees of OVE elect to support specific programmes undertaken by the Israeli and Palestinian offices subject to approval of budgets. During this year OVE raised £356,445 to support its work in Israel, Palestine and Europe, proudly exceeding its target for the year by £56,445.

Fundraising events with our Israeli and Palestinian speakers included private meetings, receptions, private breakfasts, and dinners. Donors and representatives from foundations were impressed by OneVoice’s work in Israel and Palestine with many committing to make donations to further OneVoice’s work in the Middle East.

OneVoice participated in the Big Give’s annual matched funding scheme in December 2012, which allowed the organisation to leverage donation against a pot of matched money, re-engaging lapsed donors and maximising the impact of our end-of-year donor drive. Once again, OneVoice benefited from this scheme, raising £90,000 in total.

Throughout the year OneVoice staff spoke at other fundraising events, and dedicated their time to writing grant proposals to fund OneVoice’s important work in the MiddleEast.
