Onehunga’s Security Guard, Satia Sami, continues to keep a close eye on what’s happening on the cameras and is quick to prevent something escalating into a serious incident. “ Some previous offenders know I’m watching them and know I’ll spot them if they’re playing up.” she says. The work that Satia does is valued by the Police across Auckland. Onehunga, Mt Wellington, and Central Auckland Police officers are in regular contact with Satia and many request to see footage that assist their investigations. If you or your business have experienced a crime or incident in Onehunga’s town centre, the OBA can search for CCTV footage to assist Police in their enquiries. Please request an Onehunga CCTV Search Request Form so that we can get details of the incident. Any relevant CCTV footage found is sent directly to the Police to help their enquiries. The Privacy Act does not permit the general public to view CCTV footage or monitor real-time activity on OBA’s CCTV network. Buskers There have been a few buskers about that have not been complying with the rules and causing some disturbance to retailers. If someone wishes to busk in Onehunga, they are required to have a permit from Auckland Council and their performance may not go on longer than 60 minutes in one location. If you are concerned about a busker, please call us on 636 8535 and we will politely ask them to move on. Graffiti and Rubbish Please remember to contact us if you spot any graffiti — whether it’s in an alleyway or outside your shop — We want to get rid of it FAST. Same goes for rubbish that looks like it’s been dumped — let us know so we can get it removed asap.

Easter Trading Days Who can be open over Easter? Almost all shops are required to be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday under the Shop Trading Hours Repeal Act 1990.

Shops that can open on these days include: dairies, service stations, takeaway bars, restaurants, cafés, a shop selling services rather than goods such as a hairdresser or video rental store, real estate agencies, pharmacies, a shop at any public transport terminal. Easter activities in Onehunga Many good reasons to come to town

This year people will have the opportunity to take part in a treasure hunt in the Mall From 22 March to 2 April. Clues will be placed in selected shop windows and will lead people from business to business. Our community brings life to the Onehunga centre and are key future shoppers; engaging with them and providing them with positive experiences in their local mainstreet is a great way to bring more people to Onehunga now and in the future. On 30 March ( Easter Saturday), there will be a fun day out for families at the Community Centre. There’ll be arts and crafts, a magic show, a balloon twister, face painting and a bouncy castle.

Change to minimum wage rate on 1 April 2013 Three minimum wage categories There are three minimum wage rates:

the adult minimum wage applies to all employees aged 16 and over who are not new

entrants or trainees

the new entrants minimum wage applies to employees aged 16 and 17, except for

those who have completed 200 hours or three months of employment in the workforce, whichever is shorter; or who are supervising or training other workers; or who are trainees

the training minimum wage applies only to employees aged 16 and over who are

doing recognised industry training involving at least 60 credits a year. From 1 April 2013, the adult minimum wage will increase from $13.50 to $13.75 an hour. Changes to liquor licensing laws Phased in over next 12-18 months A recent review of New Zealand’s alcohol laws has resulted in a new Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act that will replace the Sale of Liquor Act 1989.

Changes will include:

Annual licensing fee

A new fees system based on risk

Establishment of a Alcohol Regulatory Licensing Authority (ARLA)

District Licensing Committees (DLC’s)

New, broader criteria for granting and objecting to licences

Local Alcohol Policies (LAP’s)

Liquor licences bound to maximum default trading hours

Attitude Changes as Business Confidence Lifts Auckland Chamber of Commerce Business Survey There has been a dramatic lift in business confidence in a recent Business Survey of 1100 businesses in the Auckland region, Auckland Chamber of Commerce CEO Michael Barnett reports. "There has been a shift from firms who have simply expected ‘more of the same’ to those who believe the economy will improve over the next 6 months.” The survey also found :
