Welcome to our first One80 Collection!

After two years of bringing the best in precision cuts, fabulous styling and immaculate color to Washington, we created this One80 Collection to showcase our work to our loyal and prospective clients. In these pages, you’ll see just a sampling of our stylists’ skills, using our very own clients as models. Each style was an exercise in infusing the client’s personality into a final look that suits the individual from the inside out.

At One80, we listen and learn: each member of our team is well-versed on the latest trends and techniques to provide you with results that, quite simply, transform. We ask questions and pay at-tention to the details to deliver a style that reflects the individuality of each client that comes through our doors.

We hope you enjoy this collaboration between our stylists and our incredible clients and that it inspires you as much as it excites us. Remi and Jeremy

Sleek and Straight at Alberta Ferretti

Fred Hawck, One80 Salon (1275 K St. NW,202-842-9113, www.one80salon.com)

1. Start by prepping damp hair with asmoothing cream, concentrating on the middleand ends. Hawck recommends L’OrealProfessionnel Texture Expert products; the line’sSmooth Essence cream ($21) won’t weigh downyour locks. Concentrating on the crown of thehead, apply a volumizing mousse, such as theTexture Expert Expansion body-activating mousse($19). 2. Blow-dry your hair, working with a mediumto large round brush to lift and dry the top halfof your hair. At the Alberta Ferretti runwayshow, model Aline Weber sported a naturaltexture underneath a smooth, sleek top section;Hawck recommends skipping the round-brushtreatment on the underside of your hair to

achieve the look.3. Take the section of hair at the back ofthe crown and gently back-comb it witha small flat brush near the roots tocreate the ’70s-esque volume. Separate asection of hair at the front hairline(where bangs would be), and sweep thehair to one side. Hawck recommendsusing elasticized thread, available atcraft stores, to secure the hair with asmall knot instead of pins, which aredifficult to conceal. Finish with a lighthair spray.

TRENDY TRESSES FOR FALL

Sartorial statements aside, the runways for fall were packed with covetable coifs: Think smooth blowouts, romantic curls and glam-punk updos. But how to translate these high-design dos into something attainable? Weasked four local stylists to re-create the season’s freshest looks.

Modern Twists at Derek Lam

Jacqui Davis, PR at Partners (1001 G St. NW,202-737-0909, www.pratpartners.com)

1. Derek Lam’s models sported slightlyroughed-up versions of the classic French twist,a look Davis calls “the do for fall.” Davisrecommends styling with slightly dirty hair, which is easier to work with. To combat oil, apply a hair powder at the scalp and brushthrough. Davis swears by the color-coordinatedoptions from Bumble and Bumble ($19-$34).2. For model Sheila Marquez’s look, take the top“horseshoe” section of your hair (from the fronthairline between the midpoints of the eyebrowsto the top of the crown) and use a natural-bristlepaddle brush to back-comb the underside, working in small sections from back to front. 3. Spritz hair with a “working” hair spray, suchas Bumble and Bumble’s Does It All styling spray($14-$24), which lets you manipulate your hairwithout creating helmet head, then let it dry.Use the paddle brush to gently smooth the toplayer of hair, but don’t take out theback-combing. Pinch the hair at the back of thecrown and push it upward to create a bouffant.Use pins to secure. 4. Back-comb the underside of the remaininghair. Apply a generous dose of working spray,

and smooth the sides lightly with thebrush. Pull it back as if you’re making ahigh ponytail, then twist to create avertical roll. Tuck in the ends at the top, then use pins on the round side of theroll, pushing them straight through thethickest part, perpendicular to the head, and turning them sideways to slide inunder the roll. The heavier your hair, the more pins you’ll need.5. At the base of the twist, push a few

pins straight into the roll and angle them up. Thenspritz again with the working spray, run your handsover the sides lightly to smooth any frizzies and let theproduct set. If you have bangs, sweep them to the sideand hold with a light hair spray. Davis notes that someof Lam’s models wore bows lengthwise along thetwist, which can conceal pins and loose ends. “Plus, itlooks super cute and super current,” he adds.

Retro Curls at Diane von Furstenberg

Rodney Pinion, Andre Chreky (1604 K St. NW,202-293-9393, www.andrechreky.com)

1. On clean, damp hair, work an egg-size amount ofvolumizing mousse, such as Kerastase’s Volumactive($34), into your hair, starting at the crown andworking your way down and toward the fronthairline. Comb through and blow-dry.2. The designer was inspired by the 1940s spy flick“A Foreign Affair,” so glamorous curls are a must.Using a curling iron with a 11⁄2-inch diameter, takethe top section of hair from the front hairline to thecrown and roll in sections down to the scalp, curling toward the back. To do the sides and back, work in sections from top to bottom, curling hairunder. Pinion uses a BaByliss Pro gold titaniumcurling iron ($69) but notes that hot rollers can beused instead. 3. Run your fingers or a large vent brush from thefront hairline toward the crown, skipping over theends, which would frizz and lose curl. To getfullness and volume a la model Du Juan, start at thenape of your neck and run your fingers up andthrough the ends. Then finish with a light spray, such as Kerastase’s Double Force hair spray ($34).“This spray holds well, butit doesn’t dry too crisp,”Pinion notes. “But usea light touch, becauseyou want it to havesome bounce.”

Downtown Updoat Bottega Veneta

Theresa Mosely, Bubbles (1961 Chain BridgeRd., McLean, 703-448-3987, www.bubblessalon.com)

1. To prep damp hair, Mosely suggests blendinga small amount of Cibu’s Shang High thickeningpaste ($18) with the line’s Oso Shimmersmoothing solution ($18) and applying fromroots to ends. Then blow-dry, using a round orpaddle brush until your hair is smooth and dry. 2. Use a 11⁄2-inch-diameter curling iron to createloose curls all over your head, which will makeit easier to mold the hair. Starting at the nape, curl 11⁄2-inch sections loosely, working up andalong the sides to the top of the head. After thehair is curled, apply a working hair spray. “Youdon’t want a spray that’s too stiff, because thislook has a lot of softness,” Mosely says. 3. Using a small, flat brush, start at the napeand brush hair straight up, then secure withbobby pins at the crown. To get model JourdanDunn’s rocker-chic look, allow loose ends tostick up at the crown. For hair that’s too shortto reach the crown area, use your fingers or aflat iron to shape them into wisps above the

ears. 4. Take the section of hair at thefront hairline and use afine-toothed comb to gentlyback-comb. Smooth the hairaround three or four fingers andpush the section forward to get aslight bouffant. Tuck the endsunder and secure with pins. Tofinish this look, use your fingersand a working spray to give looseends at the crown a spiky, pieceylook. For bangs, use a flat iron tocurl them slightly under. Thenmist with a light shine-boostinghair spray, such as Cibu’s Sashini($18).

NOODLE & BOO BODY SCRUB

Noodle & Boo’s Glowology Sugar Mama HoneyScrub may not be the most egregious artifact of themarketing boom aimed at new moms; that honor fallsto the phenomenon of “push presents.” (If you have toask, count yourself lucky and try to forget I mentionedit.) But I cannot for the life of me figure out why thescrub is supposed to appeal to mothers in particular. As far as I can tell, it is not intended to diminishstretch marks or, more pressingly, keep the toddlerfrom smothering the cat.

In practice, the sugar in this concoction is so finethat, combined with oil, its texture is borderlineslimy. And the cloyingly sweet smell reminds me ofStrawberry Shortcake’s sugar-cookie-scented friend. But it didleave me with soft, smooth skin and mitigated the need forpost-shower lotion. But $26? The ingredients, including sugar, coconut oil, sunflower oil and shea butter, seem easy enough to

replicate. Perhaps I could makesome at home and save myselfabout $25. Sure, right after Irescue the cat.

SOAP & PAPER FACTORYSCENTED DRAWER PAPERS

I love clothes, but I’ve never been themost fastidious about caring for mywardrobe. Even my favorite blouse ismore likely to end up crumpled in aheap next to the dresser than foldedcarefully in one of its drawers. So it’snot surprising that drawer linershave never been on my list ofmust-haves. I had them once, when

I was 7. They were bright pink andprinted with tiny white flowers. They

were certainly not scented. The Soap & Paper Factory’s orange-blossom-scented versions,

though, are wonderful enough to change my messy ways. Unlikethe girlish liners of my childhood, these are fully grown-up: ahand-drawn pattern of sprawling vintage-looking flowers in anunexpected palette of chartreuse, coral and chocolate. They aresoftly, gorgeously scented. They leave a lingering hint of orangeblossoms in my bedroom and on my shirts. Which will now be inthe drawer, not on the floor.

When meeting a stylist, communication is key. Bring in pictures of hair styles which you like and even those you dislike so your stylist can get a clear idea of your style.

Leave the negativity behind and learn to focus on the positive aspects of your hair. Ask your stylist how to make the most of your hair’s natural texture and tendencies.

At home maintenance between visits is key to hair vitality.Make sure hair is well hydrated before it is colored. Hair will be in better condition and hold the color longer.

Brunettes and redheads should use a color enhanc-ing shampoo in between visits to keep color rich. Blondes can stop in between appointments for a glaze or root boost to prolong the life of highlights.

Apply Phytovoile, a leave in spray with SPF, before sun exposure to help color stay fresh longer.

For curly hair, brush hair while conditioner is still in, after rinsing towel dry and apply product.

Use a deep conditioner such as Phytojoba Mask on the ends of your hair once a week for at least 30 minutes to maintain hydration. Hair styles best when healthy.

Hair that is pulled back often tends to be dryer and more fragile. Apply extra leave in conditioner such as Phyto 7 around the hairline.

Compliment a conditioning regimen from within with Phytophanere hair vitamin supplements. This com-bination of vegetable, wheat, and fi sh oils strengthen and improve the growth of hair, skin, and nails.

If shampooing and conditioning isn’t enough to revive your hair, add a treatment regimen. Phyto has a wide range of natural oil treatments for the scalp and hair which are available in the salon or to use at home.

Want to make your salon blowout last? The perfect blowout for your hair doesn’t just have to happen once every six to eight weeks when you’re at One80 for a trim! Weekly salon blowouts will shave hours off of your schedule and, maintained correctly, will last almost the whole week long! 1. Start your week off right. Schedule an appointment with your stylist early in the week or Thursday/Friday morning to get you in shape for the weekend. A good blow-out can last three days or more depending on maintenance and your hair texture. 2. Know thine enemies. Your shower and your bed are the two places your blow-out fear the most, so use a cap in the shower and wrap your head in a silk scarf (knot in front) for bed. If your hair is longer, set it in a large, loose braid and then follow with the scarf. Check the weather and always leave your home pre-pared- keep an extra scarf and umbrella with you just in case! 3. Freshen up. A blow-dryer and a brush can be used to gently reshape the ends each morning. Velcro or hot rollers can be used to reset body in dry hair. Flat irons and large curling irons (ceramic!) are great for keeping unruly hair smooth, and get product recom-mendations from your stylist to keep your blowout in tip-top shape. 4. Have a back-up plan. Every woman should have at least one post-washing look that’s easy to pull off on her own in case a blowout isn’t an option that day. Ask your stylist for a no-fuss way to wear your hair up, with an accessory or air-dried with a different product. Then hurry back to One80 for a glass of wine, your favorite magazine, and another great blow-out.
