Once upon a time there was a boy called Jack.

Jack lived in a cottage with his mother.They were very poor and their most valuable possession was a cow called Daisy.

One day, Jack’s mother asked him to take the cow to market to sell. They were very sad to sell Daisy but they needed money for food.

On the way, Jack met a man who gave him some magic beans in exchange for the Daisy the cow.

When Jack came home with the beans his mother was really angry.“Magic beans!” she shouted at Jack. She threw the beans out of the window and sent him to bed without any supper.

The next morning, Jack looked out of the window.He could not believe his eyes.A giant beanstalk had grown in the garden!

Jack decided to climb the beanstalk. It was so tall it went right up to the sky and through the clouds.It took a long time to climb up to the top and Jack was very tired.

When Jack finally reached the top, he walked a long way until he saw an enormous castle.

Jack knocked on the door. A woman opened the door. She let him in for something to eat because she felt sorry for him. Everything inside was huge!

The woman gave Jack something to eat. Suddenly, Jack heard a loud noise. The woman said, “Quick hide. My husband is a giant and he is hungry!” Jack ran into a cupboard to hide.

An enormous giant came into the room.“Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!” he bellowed.“Nonsense, “ said his wife.

The enormous, hungry giant sat down at the table. He shouted to his wife,“Bring me my magic hen!” “Lay!” said the giant.

The hen laid an egg; it was made out of solid gold.

The giant’s wife brought the giant a huge dinner and after he ate it all, he fell fast asleep. Jack crept out of the cupboard and stole the magic hen. He ran as fast as he could and climbed back down the beanstalk. The magic hen laid a dozen golden eggs every day. Jack and his mother were not poor anymore. They were able to buy Daisy the cow back too!

Even though they were not poor anymore, Jack decided to climb up the beanstalk again.

Again Jack knocked on the door of the castle and the giant’s wife answered. She did not want to let him because the giant was cross when his magic hen was stolen.

Jack told her he was lost and hungry.The giant’s wife felt sorry for him and let him in.

Again, Jack had something to eat and then he hid when he heard the giant coming.

The enormous, hungry giant stomped into the room.“Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!” he bellowed.“Nonsense, “ said his wife.

The giant ordered his wife to bring his bags of money.He counted the golden coins before he had his dinner and fell asleep again.

Jack crept out of the cupboard and stole the money bags. He ran as fast as he could but the bags were very heavy. At last Jack made it and he climbed back down the beanstalk. Once again, Jack’s mother was very happy. Now they were rich!She begged Jack not to climb up the beanstalk again.

Jack did not listen to his mother. He climbed up the beanstalk a third time.

This time Jack wore a disguise and knocked on the door of the castle. The giant’s wife answered. She did not want to let him in because the giant was really cross with her when his magic hen and money bags were stolen.

Jack tricked her and so she let him in.

Again, Jack had something to eat and then he hid when he heard the giant coming.

The enormous, hungry giant came into the room.“Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!” he bellowed.“Nonsense, “ said his wife.

Again the giant sat down at the table. He shouted to his wife,“Bring me my golden harp!” “Sing!” said the giant.

The golden harp sang to the giant.Then he had his dinner. He fell fast asleep and snored so loud the castle shook.

Jack crept out of the cupboard and stole the golden harp. The harp shrieked, “Master! Master! Help me!”

The giant woke up and called, “Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum, I smell the blood of an Englishman!” He chased Jack. The harp was heavy and the giant was catching up with Jack.

The harp kept shouting,“Help me!”Jack was really frightened.

At last, Jack made it to the beanstalk and began to climb down. The giant followed closely behind him.

As Jack got to the bottom of the beanstalk he shouted to his mother, “Help! The giant is coming. Bring me an axe!”

Jack’s mother hurried out with an axe.

Jack chopped down the beanstalk with the axe.The giant fell and crashed to the ground and that was the end of him.

With the golden eggs, the money bags and the magic harp, Jack and his mother lived happily ever after.
