PSALM 2:1-5: THE REBELLION

1 Why do the nations conspire        and the peoples plot in vain?  2 The kings of the earth take their stand        and the rulers gather together        against the LORD and against his Anointed One.  3 "Let us break their chains," they say,        "and throw off their fetters."  4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;        the Lord scoffs at them.  5 Then he rebukes them in his anger        and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,

Page 8: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

PS. 2:6-9: GOD ANNOUNCES HIS KINGDOM

6 "I have installed my King        on Zion, my holy hill."  7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD :        He said to me, "You are my Son;        today I have become your Father.  8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.  9 You will rule them with an iron scepter;        you will dash them to pieces like pottery."

Page 9: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

PS. 2:10-12: GOD SUMMONS THE NATIONS

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;        be warned, you rulers of the earth.  11 Serve the LORD with fear        and rejoice with trembling.  12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry        and you be destroyed in your way,        for his wrath can flare up in a moment.        Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

HAS ALREADY COME!

THIS IS WHAT CHRISTMAS IS REALLY ABOUT

Page 16: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

THE KING WAS SENT TO BE BORN

IN ISRAEL (THE MOUNT ZION)

Page 17: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

ISRAEL DIDN’T RECEIVE HIM AS

THE KINGIn spite of all the

prophecies and signs spoken before hand

by the prophets

KIMGDOM’S PROPHECIES

FROM THE ROOT AND STUMP OF JESSE

Page 19: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

Isaiah 11:1-5- A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD--and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.   700 B.C.

Page 20: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

ISAIAH 11:10

IN THAT DAY THE ROOT OF JESSE WILL STAND AS A

BANNER FOR THE PEOPLES; THE NATIONS

WILL RALLY TO HIM, AND HIS PLACE OF REST WILL BE GLORIOUS.  700 B.C.

Page 21: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

Romans 15:12

And again, Isaiah says, "The Root of Jesse will

spring up, one who will arise to rule over the

nations; the Gentiles will hope in him."

Page 22: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

ISAIAH 16:5 IN LOVE A THRONE WILL BE

ESTABLISHED; IN FAITHFULNESS A MAN WILL SIT

ON IT--ONE FROM THE HOUSE OF DAVID--ONE WHO IN

JUDGING SEEKS JUSTICE AND SPEEDS THE CAUSE OF

RIGHTEOUSNESS.  700 B.C.

Matthew 1:1, 6, 16: A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of

David and Jesse the father of King David. …and Jacob the father of

Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Page 23: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

MICAH 5:2- BUT YOU, BETHLEHEM EPHRATHAH, THOUGH YOU ARE SMALL

AMONG THE CLANS OF JUDAH, OUT OF YOU WILL COME FOR ME ONE WHO WILL BE RULER

OVER ISRAEL, WHOSE ORIGINS ARE FROM OF OLD,

FROM ANCIENT TIMES.  700 B.C.

Matthew 2:1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the

east came to Jerusalem

Page 24: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

ISRAEL DIDN’T RECEIVE HIM AS

THE KINGIn spite of His

precursor’s arrival: THE VOICE

Page 25: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

THE VOICE WAS THE PROPHET JOHN BAPTIST

His mission was to prepare the way for the arrival of the

King

Page 26: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

ISAIAH 40:3-5 A voice of one calling:

'In the desert prepare the way for the Lord;make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God.Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low;the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it.For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.'"

Page 27: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

MALACHI 3:1 "See, I will send my messenger, who will

prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come," says the Lord Almighty."

Page 28: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

MATT. 3:1-3 In those days John the Baptist came,

preaching in the Desert of Judea and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:

"A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.' (Isa 40:3)."

Page 29: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

NOTHING COULD GO

WRONGThe king was coming

and should have been recognized and accepted as the king

promised by God

Page 30: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

BUT

Israel rebelled against the King,

plotted against Him with the rulers

of the earth, and crucified Him.

Page 31: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

THE CONQUERING OF GOD’S KINGDOM 1ST PHASE: THE COMING OF THE KING

AS THE SAVIOR OF HUMANITY FROM THE REBELLION AGAINST GOD. HE CALLED THE PEOPLE OUT OF THE WORLD TO BECOME THE PEOPLE OF GOD.

13For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,

(Col. 1:13)

Page 32: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

2ND PHASE- DANIEL’S VISION 7:11-14

"Then I continued to watch because of the boastful words the horn was speaking. I kept looking until the beast was slain and its body destroyed and thrown into the blazing fire. (The other beasts had been stripped of their authority, but were allowed to live for a period of time.) "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Page 33: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

DANIEL 7:27 Then the sovereignty, power and

greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be handed over to the saints, the people of the Most High. His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all rulers will worship and obey him.‘

JOHN’S VISION- REV. 11:15-18

The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:    "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever." And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying: “We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was,    because you have taken your great power       and have begun to reign.

Page 35: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

The nations were angry; and your wrath has come.    The time has come for judging the dead,       and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great—    and for destroying those who destroy the earth."

Page 36: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

THE KING WILL COME AGAIN

Page 37: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

HE WILL COME TO REIGN FOREVER

Page 38: once upon a time there WA s an eternal king

AND WE WILL REIGN WITH HIM
