On Wednesday, March 11th NHJCC students and staff
joined together in celebration for many of the incredible, well-deserved achievements they’ve
earned over the past month. The Student Government Association decorated the gymnasium for
the event with a Women’s History Month theme. The crowd roared in celebration of their peers,
especially when Washington Dorm regained their title as Dorm of the Month!

Hotel and Lodging Take on Shriver
We were greeted
by students who are
already in the trade to
gives us a wonderful
in depth tour of
the center and
expectations of
center life.
It was a long a winding road to Shriver in the Big Blue Bus, thank you Ms. Bornas! The
intrepid staff and most of the
Hotel and Lodging students
were excited to see and learn
about a different center and
the TCU/IAM advanced
trade they offer there.
After, we met Mr. Oscar Derderian TCU/IAM Coordinator of region one and two, and
Ms. Barbra Holt, AT instructor. They engaged the students in an informal question and answer
session while elaborating on what the students will achieve upon graduation as well as the
possibility to work with Amtrak and other surrounding companies in and around New England
and New York. Overall, the students enjoyed the trip and a few are considering TCU as part of
their future education. Stop in to see Ms. Reynolds for more information!

Shout-Out to a Staff
‘Ms. Bates’ met with me almost every
week. Through snow storms and rain, she gave
me the time and energy that blew me away.
Even on her days off, if I needed her it wasn't a
question, she'd be there. She really believes in
me and in turn that makes me believe in myself
which is something I've always struggled with.
I know 100% I would not be in the wonderful
place I am if it wasn't for Ms. Bates, who I will
always appreciate. Thank you so much!

My name Is John Crombie. I joined Job Corps
February 25, 2020. This is my third week here and so far I
can see all the positive things this place has to offer. The
trade I’m interested in Security in hopes of becoming a
police officer, I am hoping to earn my driver’s license
through Job Corps as well. The one thing I have to say is
that my first week here was good due to my roommates.
Tim Santree and Aaron Barden showed me around and
made me feel like I was at home. The staff here are really
supportive and here for you, you just
have to ask. In my spare time I enjoy karate and hanging
with my friends and just relaxing.

Our New Finance & Administration Administrative Assistant
Hello, my name is Ms. Finn, I come to NHJCC after spending
many years in multiple office related roles. I am very excited to be
here to share my knowledge as well as learn from everyone. I have
raised 3 children and have a strong passion for seeing our students
grow to become successful young adults. In raising my 3 children I
have been heavily involved in their extracurricular activities,
especially by volunteering in the Boy Scouts of America program.
In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors, whether it be playing with
my Chocolate Lab in the yard or taking a hike. If you happen to pass
by my office don’t hesitate to say “hi”, and if I see you passing by
you will always see my smiling and saying “hi”.
Talk about teamwork to make something happen! On Thursday, March 5th, the NHJCC family team marched ‘4th’ in a campus wide effort to prove that SAFETY FIRST for all students is FIRST on the NHJCC list. Just as is the case with any strong family unit, our Center set out to send out and drive home the message that we are serious about keeping students safe from any and all weapons and controlled substances that have the potential to ultimately cause harm. At the same time, as a workforce training facility, it is equally important for us to advise students that a fair amount of employers make it a point to hold random drug and alcohol testing as a method of holding their employees to a high standard of professional behavior.
Being held accountable is a huge part of success in the working world. Staff Team Leads and Success Teams gathered for a short assembly of instructions followed by an organized dorm and locker search effort. Students were kept occupied with an hour of quality movie entertainment in the gym while the quality search team prevailed. While it may have been a bit unnerving for some, the message of safety first for all upheld the mission as the prevention that supports the cure.
We are happy to report that the Center met with the success we were hoping it would, leaving it “safe to say” …we are SAFE and SOUND. It really DOES take
a village to raise the next generation…but that’s our job folks. Mr. Koheil extended an extra special thanks to all members of the NHJCC family staff who participated in the drill, proving once again we are united in our effort to keep our students and our Center a safe place to teach, work, learn and live!
