You are getting a first glance at our new two-part electronic version of THE EVOLUTION OF VALACTA ATLANTIC DAIRY PRODUCTION. This new and improved version contains Valacta’s publishable data on cows and herds, by cow, by breed, by herd and by province.

In order to please our customers and key industry partners in Atlantic, we have decided to make some changes to our yearly publica-tion, The Evolution of Valacta Atlantic Dairy Production. So beginning this year, this publication will be broken down into two distinct publications. First, this one: our most awaited annual statistics on publishable herds and cows that are now available for you sooner than ever before! The second publication, which will be available in May, will feature provincial statistics, benchmarks and hot articles written by our experts. Both versions designed for electronic publication are now mobile friendly!

We begin this publication on a great note with the top 10 Canadian Herds according to the Performance Index. Congratulations to all of them and special congratulations to Sunny Point Farms from Noel, Nova Scotia who ranked 7th in the Canadian top 10 and is ranked first in the Atlantic Provinces. I wish to take this opportunity to congratulate all the producers who ranked as top herds in Atlantic for the 2016 Herd Performance Index: Sunny Point Farms Ltd., who finished 7th in Canada, and ranked #1 in Nova Scotia; Clarke Farms, top herd in New Brunswick with a HPI in the 99th percentile; Jewell Dale Farm Inc., top herd in Prince Edward Island; A & J Bent Farms Ltd. of Nova Scotia for finishing in the top 99th percentile while ranking 2nd provincially; and finally, Winding River Farms of Nova

Scotia as top robotic herd. Congratulations also to Lauchie and Jolene MacEachern of Folly River Farms Ltd. in Nova Scotia, who were just named Atlantic Outstanding Young Farmers, and will now move on to represent our region on a national level. They were much deserving of this award and we wish them the very best of luck!
