Dedicated driver Thomas Hudson in Lynchburg (#162) can be seen cleaning his van before his trips and willing to step up and do things. He takes vans to vendor without having to ask him, always checks the vans, and is a real pleasure to work with. In appreciation, Mr. Thomas received a North Bound Train Award , was taken to lunch and received a $25.00 gift card.

Alexandria LA conducted their May 2012 safety meeting via the internet and ivisit.com allowing both video and audio interaction plus a white board for displaying content. Alexandria continues looking for ways to increase productivity and reduce costs. They are also expecting mobile signage for recruitment in the near future. Congratulations to Alexandria who remain poised in their recruitment efforts, training and innovative use of communication technologies.

Norfolk Southern Family Day of Fun was held at English Park in Altavisita. Trainmaster Bo Blair (left-both) DM Lucille Lang (center, left picture) RF Jason McWilliams (right-both) and Beth Snead (center-right picture) enjoyed the variety of events, good food and great friends!

Pictured on left, Trainmaster Shaun McCoy was presented with three $25.00 gifts cards as door prizes for the Norfolk Southern Pocahontas Family Day of Fun event held at Camp Bethel in Wise, VA. While in Bluefield, WV (pictured on right,) Family Day was held for crews working in Bluefield and Auville. PTI was present highlighting the “Mission & Safety” statements as well as the company’s CORE values. Also highlighted was PTI’s Training for Impact program, outlining the detailed training PTI drivers in the Pocahontas area receive prior to transporting crew members. Children at the each event also received “Operation Life Saver” goodies, compliments of PTI.

• Keep headlights, tail lights, sign lights and windows (inside and out) clean.

• Have headlights properly aimed. Mis-aimed headlights blind other drivers and reduce your ability to see the road.

• Reduce your speed and increase your following distance.

• Don’t overdrive your headlights. You should be able to stop inside the illuminated area.

• Keep headlights on low beam when following another vehicle.
