so here we are in the inky hours of a newborn year... these groups of days... minutes... months that we like to package       and label for us to feel some sort of control                                    to feel safe. when all it does is notify that we're getting older                           hmph all I care about is it's 2am and I've just gutted a fish                 light in my eyes, a smile on my face and life writhing in my bloodied hands scales flying                 high fives and back claps and I couldn't care what year it was or that it just ticked over  into the dawning of a new one.

MASCULINE SOCIETY, AS WELL AS CULTURAL IDENTITY IN A POST-APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA

CAST // Robyn Robyn is English, her mother being European. Her eyes draw you in to a

world as deep as the dark ocean. She is confident, but shy. She is independent and mysterious. She is feminine and sexy, with a boyish air.

CAST // Janneman To some extent, Janneman is a rough diamond. He is most comfortable

exposed to the elements. He is a handsome oke, unshaven and only wears jeans or shorts. He is Afrikaans, and always a gentleman.

CAST // Fisherman A coloured old man. The lines on his face reveal many years of

exposure to the elements and the hardships of life. He lives from the sea and mans the only lighthouse in Paternoster.

He will facilitate Robyn's right of passage.

CAST // Janneman's Family Janneman's mom is a classy woman. She dedicated her life to her

husband and her family. But she has many talents that still lie dormant in a long forgotten past.

His sisters are warm and caring. They are both reserved and always choose their words wisely.

Janneman's father is a man with a big heart. He has worked hard, saved well and pillar to his family. His family knows, that he is the

head of the house.

CINEMATOGRAPHY 16mm black and white. The camera is a quiet spirit, observing,

anticipating, like a shadow following Robyn's every step. Sometimes too late, sometimes too early.
