DESCRIPTION

On the Fringe is a vintage lifestyle boutique located in the funky urban Chicago neighborhood known as Wicker Park/Bucktown. With an eye to the past, this fun boutique features vintage clothing and accessories from the 60s and 70s. Staffing includes a personal stylist who specializes in locating vintage clothing and accessories from alternative sources. The challenge for this project was to develop a contemporary design for the boutique that invoked the colorful whimsy of the 60s and 70s without looking dated. This was achieved by creating a branding solution that ties together a bright floral color palette accompanied by bold graphics and oversized architectural details. Pink, orange and purple are utilized throughout the space to create a fun funky boho chic vibe. Upon entering the front door, the customer is greeted by a custom cash wrap constructed from colorful 3-Form panels and topped with a large flower shaped pendant light fixture. B+N Iconic panels form the backdrop for the clothing displays and a stenciled flower pattern decorates the reclaimed wood floor. Whimsical flower pendants and colorful chandeliers provide additional lighting accents and also function as mini art installations. Off to one side is the Stylist/Lounge/Dressing Room area, where customers can meet with the stylist, gather with their friends and try on their outfits. On the Fringe will be a place for the fashion conscious shopper to visit the past and plan their future.Created for Contract Design Class at the College of DuPageCopyright 2015 Nancy Faller
