OMNI PROCESSORTHE INGENIOUS MACHINE THAT TURNS FAECES INTO DRINKING WATER
Major Problems Faced In
Developing Countries
THERE ARE MANY PROBLEMS FACED IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. THE
TWO WHICH WE ARE GOING TO DISCUSS HERE ARE:
LACK OF PROPER SEWAGE TREATMENT AND SANITATION
LACK OF PURE DRINKING WATER
Lack Of Proper Sewage Treatment
And Improved Sanitation
A shocking number of people, at least 2 billion, use latrines that
aren’t properly drained. Others simply defecate out in the open.
Toilets in the developing world are most commonly located over pits.
Septic trucks are hired to pump out the sewage and carry it away. Too
often, the dumping site for the sewage is a river, stream, bay, ocean,
etc., with no further treatment whatsoever.
Causes Of Lack Of Improved
Sanitation
This creates a huge problem. The sewage contaminates the drinking
water, causing people to get sick.
It also causes economic stresses to the countries with improper
sanitation
For Example, Kenya loses about $350 million per year
LACK OF PURE DRINKING WATER
More than 750 million lack access to safe drinking water
Causes Of Lack Of Pure Drinking
Water
Each day more than 840,000 people die due to waterborne
diseases
SOLUTION TO THESE PROBLEMS
OMNI PROCESSOR
WHAT IS OMNI PROCESSOR??
The Omni Processor is a cheap and simple sewage sludge treatment
system designed specifically for poor and developing countries.
It is manufactured by Janicki Bioenergy and funded by Bill and
Melinda gates foundation.
It not just treats sewage but also turns sewage into pure drinking
water and electricity.
HOW DOES OMNIPROCESSOR
WORK??
SEWAGE COMPOSITION
SEWAGE CONTAINS ABOUT 80% WATER AND 20% BIOMASS. THE BIOMASS HAS MORE THAN ENOUGH ENERGY IN IT TO STERILIZE AND BOIL
THE WATER.
PROCESS
ADVANTAGES OF OMNI
PROCEESOR OVER OTHERS
No fuel needed to operate the plant that is the plant is self sufficient
The ash produced is pathogen free
The plant works at a high temperature(1000°C) therefore there is no
odour while operating
Converts water vapours into drinkable water instead of releasing
them into atmosphere
Meets all environmental regulations
STATE OF DEVELOPMENT
The Janicki Bioenergy Omni Processor - Model S100 started as a
proof-of-concept project in 2013. The model is up and running in
Dakar, Senegal. This location is perfect for continuing development and measuring real-world performance.
In spring 2016, The first commercial Omni Processor (OP), Model S200
will be ready to ship which will be able to process faecal sludge of
around 100-200k people providing drinking water for 35k people
and electricity for 25k household.
