I Love to Tell the Story

Sending Forth

Toccata in E minor Jeff Neufeld

Ask Ye What Great Thing I Know

1 I love to tell the story of unseen things above, of Jesus and his glory, of Jesus and his love. I love to tell the story because I know 'tis true; it satisfies my longings as nothing else could do. Refrain: I love to tell the story; 'twill be my theme in glory to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love. 2 I love to tell the story; more wonderful it seems than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams. I love to tell the story, it did so much for me; and that is just the reason I tell it now to thee. [Refrain] 3 I love to tell the story; 'tis pleasant to repeat what seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet. I love to tell the story, for some have never heard the message of salvation from God's own holy Word. [Refrain] 4 I love to tell the story, for those who know it best seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest. And when in scenes of glory I sing the new, new song, 'twill be the old, old storythat I have loved so long. [Refrain]

The roses on the altar are given in celebration of the January 6 birth of Aubrey Wayne Stevens and Eberley Marie Stevens, great-granddaughters of Candace and Al DeGarmo. People: We lift them up to the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The pastor gives thanks appropriate to the season, remembering God's acts of salvation, and concludes: Pastor: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and we join their unending hymn. Sanctus

The pastor continues the thanksgiving. The institution of the Lord's Supper is recalled. The pastor concludes:

Pastor: And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ's offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Memorial Acclamation

The pastor invokes the present work of the Holy Spirit in the Epiclesis and then praises the Trinity, concluding: Pastor: All honor and glory is yours, Holy and Loving God, now and forever. Great Amen

THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SHARING THE BREAD AND CUP All here are welcome to receive the bread and cup. We serve today by intinction. Come forward, receive a piece of the broken bread and dip it lightly in the cup. If you desire “gluten free” communion ask the celebrant when you come forward.

The Service of Worship

Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany February 9, 2020 8:00 am PREPARING FOR WORSHIP Let us prepare our hearts and minds as we transition from getting to church to being in worship. PRELUDE D. Buxtehude

WELCOME Pastor Daniel Cochran INTROIT Townend & Getty/ arr. Angerman +HYMN UMH 568 Italian Hymn +AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostle’s Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the liv-ing and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. +GLORIA PATRI Lesser Doxology Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. COLLECT Jennifer Wills Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may more perfectly love you, and worthily mag-nify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
