Sap Testing Services Omex is the innovator of the unique SAP service in the UK. The process involves collecting clippings following mowing and sending them to the Omex SAP laboratory for rapid processing and analysis. The sap is extracted from the clippings using in house equipment and subjected to a complete analysis of all macro and micro nutrients. The results are then interpreted using a database based on over 50 years of plant sap testing and any deficiencies, excesses or imbalances are addressed with a recommendation for foliar correction.

SAP testing is unlike any conventional plant testing system and is compared to taking a blood test. It measures what has actually been taken up by the turf and can help diagnose rooting problems and availability issues. Conventional tissue testing is not as accurate, since it measures all nutrients in the sample, including those that are in cell walls and may not be available for growth. 16 separate parameters are analysed and reports display the results in an easy to interpret form, showing the status of each part of the test against the ideal level for the turf at the sampling date.

A recommendation to correct any deficiencies or nutrient imbalances is also provided if appropriate.

SAP testing can be used to help diagnose a particular issue on a green or as a routine part of greens management, offering a chance to carry out a complete nutrient assessment of the greens.

Soil Testing Services Using state-of-the art equipment, Omex Amenity offers a wide range of nutrient analysis services, from routine pH, P, K and Mg analysis to full spectrum testing of micronutrient levels. The purpose built laboratory is a member of the UK PAAG ring testing and quality assurance scheme. Soil results are provided on easy to understand bar charts and analysis can be arranged through your Omex Amenity distributor or direct from Omex.

Soil samples should comprise of at least 20 cores of the area being tested and be taken from a uniform depth (usually 10cms).

omex specialises in the development and manufacture of super-concentrated liquid foliar fertilisers.

These products are characterised by very high nutrient concentrations, often close to those of solid fertilisers and several times that of normal solution fertilisers. All products are 100% water-soluble for fertigation and foliar applications.

The chemistry required to formulate Omex water soluble suspensions is complex. Advanced gels are combined with high quality raw materials to produce stable formulations. Nutrients are chloride-free and micro nutrients are chelated with EDTA where appropriate. In addition, stringent quality control tests are performed at every step in the manufacturing process.

Formulation characteristics of the products include:

• Selection of specific raw materials to aid rapid assimilation and mobilisation in the plant

• Synergistic, multi-form nutrient sources

• Two separate organic fractions to improve nutrient transport and stimulate epiphyllic micro organisms on the leaf surface which aid nutrient uptake

• An advanced adjuvant system to allow maximum leaf coverage

The Omex foliar product range incorporates eba technology – a revolutionary formulation system designed to optimise foliar uptake and assimilation of nutrients.

Foliar High N Extra Nitrogen is highly mobile within the plant and is in constant conversion between different forms within the rootzone. Rootzone nitrogen is prone to rapid movement beyond the relatively shallow rooting area into the subsoil, especially under high irrigation or heavy rainfall. It can also become immobilised, particular in rootzones with high levels of thatch. Applying targeted, foliar applications of nitrogen avoid the risk of losses via the soil and provide rapid response and green-up.

High N Extra is a particularly useful product for a regular nitrogen boost or for areas which are subject to stress due to weather or rootzone conditions, containing 3 sources of nitrogen and a range of secondary and micronutrients. It leaves no residues on treated greens and offers rapid stripe-free fertiliser application with normal sprayers and can be tank-mixed to save more time.

CalMax UltraCalMax Ultra is a foliar applied calcium product that maximises calcium uptake and mobility and acts as a powerful nitrogen primer. It is applied immediately before applying nitrogen to turf, helping it use the nitrogen effectively and improving turf health and stress resistance.

Normally, when nitrogen is applied to turf the grass takes the nitrogen up in preference to calcium, producing lush growth, susceptible to disease and prone to damage, and leading to short-term calcium deficiency. Calcium is an extremely important turf nutrient, essential for strengthening cell walls and

increasing resistance to disease. Most soils are rich in calcium so it is usually well supplied through the roots, making application unnecessary.

However, for a short period after applying nitrogen the calcium supply from the soil is upset and turf can be temporarily short of calcium, making it more susceptible to disease with weak cell structure.

CalMax Ultra overcomes this temporary calcium shortage and creates stronger cells, making the turf harder wearing and more resistant to disease.

Folex K Folex K is a super concentrated potassium and nitrogen feed. Potassium is a major nutrient which is required by all plants. It is second only to nitrogen in the amounts required by turf. It is highly mobile and is moves freely in sandy rootzones.

Within the turf, potassium is involved in over 60 plant enzyme processes and other biochemical reactions including the production of sugars and starches. Potassium helps build turf by strengthening cell walls, increasing winter hardiness and drought resistance. As approximately 60% of stored potassium can be removed in any one mowing and many sand greens are incapable of retaining soil-applied potassium, it is important that regular potassium application is maintained.

The main role of potash within the plant is as a water regulator and in this role it influences many plant processes. It is particularly important in the regulation of cell water content, cell turgidity and is therefore important to maintain a healthy, hardwearing sward. The movements of sugars from the leaves to the roots also depend on potassium.

Foliar IronA unique stabilised iron complex which provides a quick green-up of turf without over stimulation of growth and without wheel marks or blackening. Foliar iron mixes instantly with water and is ideal for use at any time when turf is in need of a green-up boost and in the Autumn will harden the turf and strengthen it against disease.

It is used as a rapid greening agent to improve turf colour prior to events without the risk of scorch associated with simple iron sulphate. Foliar iron is also leaf-fast once dry, minimising the risk of foot travel and unwanted sward staining also associated with iron sulphate application.

Super KA unique foliar-applied high analysis potassium feed with turbo power and micro nutrients. As well as potassium, Super K contains liquid energy that is rapidly absorbed by the turf to boost growth and vigour. Super K also stimulates soil biological activity, helping create a beneficial healthy soil environment with reduced risk of disease and enhanced nutrient availability.

Treated turf is revitalised and boosted with the health benefits of potassium and regular treatment ensures turf potassium levels are maintained without the risk of potassium loss from the soil. Super K is ideal for autumn and winter application, helping create and maintain a healthy, hardened turf.

MicromaxHighly managed turf often receives careful attention to the macronutrient requirements of nitrogen and potassium, but micronutrient requirements can be overlooked. Although required in very small quantities, micronutrients are just as important as macronutrients in maintaining a healthy, hardwearing sward. Sand greens effectively contain no micronutrients in the rootzone, making application of a range of micronutrients vital.

Micromax is a high quality foliar turf treatment containing the full range of trace elements required

to correct deficiencies and maintain healthy, balanced growth. It can be applied as a standalone application or conveniently tank-mixed with most of the Omex Amenity Range.

Much like taking multivitamin tablets, an application of Micromax provides turf with a wide spectrum of micronutrients to keep it healthy and to reduce the risk of deficiency symptoms showing in the sward, and the foliar application is rapidly absorbed for instant results.

Magnesium PlusMagnesium plays a major role in the process of capturing sunlight and converting it into healthy growth. It is highly mobile within the turf leaves and as a result, older leaves tend to show loss of colour and other symptoms of deficiency. Magnesium also plays a key role in moving sugars from the leaves to feed the roots.

Most rootzones are naturally low in magnesium and application of some magnesium fertilisers can increase soil pH, to the detriment of sward composition.

Magnesium Plus is formulated with manganese, nitrogen and sulphur to provide a complete feed which maximises the uptake of magnesium.

9

Folex NNitrogen is probably the most responsive nutrient applied to turf. Best results are usually achieved following regular applications, adjusted for weather and seasonal conditions. Applying solid nitrogen can be difficult; it leaves a residue on the green that can impair play and accurate application can be difficult. Folex N is a concentrated liquid nitrogen with a high level of turf safety and feeds the turf through both foliar and root uptake, providing a rapid and long lasting greening response.

The key advantages of Folex N include rapid and accurate application, which is only possible with a sprayer. It leaves no residues on treated surfaces, so no risk of impeding play or being removed. A single sprayer fill is normally all that’s needed to rapidly treat all tees and greens in a clean and effective application. Folex N is also widely used for sports fields and outfield areas.

Bio20 Bio20 is a complete foliar nutrient formulation with the added benefit of a powerful biostimulant. Containing a balanced ratio of N:P:K plus a full range of secondary and micronutrients, it feeds the sward without enriching the soil. The full benefit of foliar application is therefore achieved without any risk of increasing phosphate levels

in the soil and without any effect on sward composition. Bio20 is ideal for regular spoonfeeding to maintain turf colour and vigour, whilst boosting growth in the root zone to improve drought tolerance and wear resistance.

Bio18Bio18 combines the benefits of naturally occurring kelp with an iron-rich balanced nutrient feed, provided by a full range of macro, secondary and micro elements. The biostimulants and nutrients found in Bio18 produce improvements in root growth and the concentrated nutrient package ensures that the enhanced rooting is supported by healthy vigorous growth. Bio18 is often used to the best effect when the sward is under stress

or during periods of slower growth. It is used as a foliar fertiliser on all sward compositions to aid colour and increase vigour and growth. In many situations, effects will be seen within hours of application as the biostimulant package within Bio18 works within the leaf, opening up foliar nutrient access for a short period allowing the nutrients to pass into the leaf more rapidly than conventional foliar feeds.

SuperMn Manganese is the most common micro nutrient deficiency in the UK and as well as having an effect on the appearance of the sward, manganese deficiency can leave the grass more susceptible to Take All and generally impaired growth.

Many manganese products simply contain manganese, which can be difficult for the grass to use efficiently. By

formulating SuperMn with other nutrients and a unique carbohydrate-based energy boost, manganese uptake has been shown to be better and plant responses are improved. SuperMn also contains magnesium, nitrogen and sulphur plus the equivalence of 1 hour of sunshine to provide a boost in growth to aid rapid uptake of the manganese.

Sulphomex Sulphur is an important nutrient for turf and is needed in sufficient quantities to ensure nitrogen is used efficiently and turf colour is maintained. The number of fertiliser products containing sulphur has declined in recent years so regular doses of sulphur are not being applied and the rootzone of most greens is not able to retain or supply sulphur. As a result, if sulphur is not applied regularly, nitrogen is not used efficiently creating two issues; poor turf growth and an increased risk of disease.

The mobility of sulphur in plants is also poor, so yellowing tends to occur in the newer leaves. Foliar application

of Sulphomex is most effective in correcting deficiency symptoms rapidly as it rapidly enters the sward and rapidly reaches all parts of the leaf.

Sulphomex contains a high level of sulphur, formulated in two forms for instant delivery and for slower release maintenance of sulphur levels. It also contains nitrogen to ensure that the sulphur is used efficiently in the sward to produce strong, healthy growth. It will mix with most of the Omex Amenity foliar range, allowing targeted doses of sulphur to be made with most applications.

Biomex Starter A soil amendment which helps establish a healthy soil microflora, which in turn improves rooting and nutrient uptake. Biomex Starter is a suspension of spores of the bacteria Bacillus amyloliquefacians which, when applied to soil, leads to the rapid development of a healthy network of microbial growth in the soil, which can help grass roots become less susceptible to pathogen attack due to improved soil health.

Plants grown in soil treated with Biomex Starter have shown improved germination and rooting, increased vigour and health and reduced disease incidence. Biomex colonises the roots of the turf, making it more difficult for pathogens to infect the roots and helping solubilise minerals in the soil to make them available for uptake.

Bio KBio K combines the benefits of naturally occurring kelp with potassium and nitrogen plus a full range of micronutrients. In addition to being an important source of potassium, the sulphur-free formulation and tailored combination of ingredients builds protection against stress and the resulting growth creates a healthy sward

which is more resistant to infection by dollar spot. Bio K also includes calcium, which further builds turf health and also improves nitrogen utilisation. Formulated specifically for turf, Bio K also contains high levels of iron to enhance colour and improve sward strength.

Kelpak Kelpak is a kelp concentrate which is manufactured using a unique Cell Burst process without heat, chemical digestion or dehydration. This patented process ensures maximum retention of the auxins and cytokinins found in this species of kelp. Kelpak also contains a wide range of nutrients, vitamins and amino acids.

Kelpak is not like any other seaweed product as it is a concentrate, produced using a unique cold process which avoids damaging the natural growth hormones. Independent trials and extensive university research have elucidated the mode of action. Being rich in auxins, it produces exceptional root growth following application, which in turn produces a flush of healthy top growth.

Greenkeepers routinely apply Kelpak to encourage vigorous root growth, improving the uptake of nutrients and resisting stress, especially those caused by root diseases. Regular application maintains a vibrant and healthy sward with less need for application of fungicides and other chemical treatments.

FerrokelpFerrokelp combines a powerful biostimulant combined with iron and nitrogen and is used to enhance turf colour and hardness, while boosting root growth. It is very effective as a rapid greening agent to improve turf colour prior to events without the risk of scorch associated with simple iron sulphate. Ferrokelp is also leaf-fast once dry, minimising the risk of foot travel and unwanted sward staining commonly associated with iron sulphate.

The biostimulant component is processed by the patented Cell Burst technique, which concentrates the rooting benefits of freshly harvested Giant Kelp to maintain excellent rooting stimulation at low rates of use. The combined formulation of biostimulant plus iron and nitrogen boosts a healthy sward which can be less susceptible to Fusarium patch and the product is also used on outfields to boost overall sward appearance.

Tried and tested on turf and crops all over the world, Green Cross is a highly effective, super concentrated foliar nutrient, which stimulates healthy plant growth without adversely affecting root zone mycorrhizal fungi. Green Cross boosts the natural defence mechanisms in turf to provide natural resistance to a range of diseases including Fusarium, Dollar Spot, Pythium, Powdery Mildew, Botrytis, Phytopthora and a range of other bacterial diseases.

Green Cross differs from conventional foliar fertilisers because in addition to nitrogen, potash and micronutrients, it contains the active ingredient, phosphite.

Phosphite has unique benefits for plants. When applied to turf it stimulates healthy growth, which increase turf resistance to disease and reduces the need for fungicides. Although Green Cross contains phosphorus it is not a conventional P-fertiliser. It doesn’t act as a phosphate nutrient and does not increase soil P levels, simply acting directly on the plant through foliar uptake. Application of Green Cross results in a healthy, vigorous sward which is more resistant to disease attack. Since it is not a fungicide Green Cross can be applied by any operators,

without a requirement for certification and it is ideal for applications where golf courses and sports pitches are attempting to reduce their reliance on pesticides.

Green Cross

Garland P-Phite TurfGarland is a naturally-based plant health promoter and application helps boost a plant’s ability to defend itself against pest attack. It is a pungent formulation of garlic which leaves a strong odour of garlic on treated surfaces within the soil, boosting soil health and turf

vigour. Although it is not a pesticide and has no pesticidal activity, because of the strong odour associated with Garland, treated areas may become less attractive to earthworms, leather jackets and grazing animals.

P-Phite Turf is a highly effective, high performance foliar nutrient which is radically different from conventional foliar fertilisers. It contains phosphorus in both phosphate and phosphite forms, with potassium, magnesium, manganese and zinc. As well as providing well known nutritional benefits, P-Phite Turf increases vigour and stimulates plant health. The addition of organic biostimulants improves nutrient uptake and stimulates root action. Benefits include the improved uptake of cations (e.g. Ca, Mg, Mn) and their increased mobility within the plant.

Phosphite has further benefits for plants. When applied to turf it stimulates healthy growth, reducing the need for fungicides and increasing the turf resistance to disease. P-Phite Turf, with it’s unique blend of phosphite

and phosphate, supplies a low level of plant-available phosphate, enough to feed the root growth triggered by the phosphite ingredients but not enough to increase the soil P levels. Application of P-Phite Turf results in a healthy, vigorous sward which resists disease attack. Since P-Phite Turf is not a fungicide it can be applied by any operators, without a requirement for certification and it is ideal for applications where courses are attempting to reduce their reliance on pesticides

Should disease become established on turf it is now possible to further boost sward health with application of Green Cross, a foliar nutrient based on bio-active forms of zinc and copper, which boost the plant’s natural ability to shrug-off disease.

Omex TPAA phosphate stabiliser used to extend the availability of phosphate in the soil, reducing imobilisation and loss of fertiliser efficiency. TPA is based on thermal poly aspartate and forms a complex with phosphate in the soil to protect it from becoming insoluble and unavailable to plant roots. It is particularly effective during turf establishment and in situations where a phosphate deficiency has been

identified. TPA can be tank-mixed with any of the Omex phosphate products or simply sprayed onto soil or turf prior to spreading solid fertiliser.

Application of TPA on its own can help increase the availability of phosphate that is already present in the root zone, without the need to apply more phosphate fertiliser.

Didin FluidA flexible nitrogen additive that extends the release of available nitrogen in the rootzone to maintain turf colour and avoid flushes of growth, reducing the risk of disease and improving longevity of nitrogen response. Didin Fluid works as a nitrification inhibitor and when added to a liquid nitrogen feed, such as Foliar High N Extra, or applied to turf before spreading solid nitrogen it delays the conversion of urea and ammonium nitrogen in the soil, effectively converting the fertiliser into a slow release product.

Didin Fluid breaks down safely in the soil over time and leaves no residues. It extends the supply of plant-available nitrogen over 2-3 months, reducing the need for frequent applications of nitrogen, and reducing the risk of nitrate leaching and water pollution.

NA13 is a nutrient spray additive, added to the spray tank to maximise the uptake of most foliar nutrients. It is recommended for tank-mix application with Green Cross and P-Phite Turf, to maximise the uptake of the active ingredient into the turf and ensure maximum root growth. NA13 acts as a powerful surfactant, spreading the nutrients evenly over and round the sprayed surface, ensuring it is absorbed rapidly and effectively and improving rainfastness.

Trials comparing plant responses with and without NA13 have shown better results and greater nutrient efficiency where it is used, producing a bigger increase in rooting and more effective nutrient uptake

SW7 SW7 is a silicon based wetter, designed to ensure enhanced uptake of foliar nutrients. It also supplies silicon to the turf, improving cell strength and resilience to attack by pests, such as frit fly.

Silicon is widely recognised as a beneficial element for plant growth. Following application, it is transported in the xylem and deposited in the epidermal cells in the turf

leaves. Once in the cells, it complexes with calcium in the cell walls and acts as a physical strengthener and also helps alleviate abiotic and biotic stress.

SW7 is extremely plant safe, and higher rates of application can help improve water penetration and help manage localised dry patches and issues of water penetration caused by hydrophobic soil conditions.

NA13 Surefoot A turf-safe and chloride-free liquid deicer for use on footpaths, car parks and any other hard surface to prevent and clear ice and snow. It starts melting ice immediately after application; unlike solid deicers which need to dissolve in water before becoming active. It is supplied in easy to handle drums which stack neatly and safely for simple storage. Any unused deicer can be poured back into the drum and stored indefinitely.

As well as being simple to handle and apply, Surefoot is effectively non-corrosive, unlike salt. Salt damages concrete and paving and can be slow acting and messy to apply. Surefoot is also safe on grass and vegetation. Surefoot maintains effective ice control to lower temperatures than salt, remaining active down to

temperatures as low as -50°C; salt is generally in-effective below -7°C .

Application is straightforward. Pour straight from the drum into your choice of applicator. For small areas the most convenient way is via a watering can, using a fine rose.

For larger areas, application by standard sprayer is ideal, from simple hand-pumped garden sprayers to more sophisticated knapsack sprayers with hand held booms. For the professional user, application with the Allen Paddockmaster or the Techneat Acuspray is rapid and efficient, allowing large areas to be treated in minutes. For extensive areas, application with standard turf sprayers is the ideal method of applying large areas.

Isomelt

A ready-to-use non corrosive and safe liquid deicer. Unlike salt, it actually benefits any trees and grass it contacts. It is ideal for application in parks and gardens and is no more corrosive than water, offering a clean, rapid method of preventing and clearing ice and frost.

Application through any sprayer provides quick and accurate application and means existing equipment is used more efficiently throughout the year.

A non-corrosive alternative to salt, based on granular sodium formate. Isomelt is applied with standard salt-spreading equipment at similar rates to salt but offers much lower impact than salt. It is less damaging to vegetation and fixtures than salt, and it works to much lower temperatures. Isomelt is pleasant and easy to

handle and it can be used as an anti-icer, applied in advance of an ice forecast or a decier, to clear existing ice.

If clearing snow, as with all deicers, clear as much snow by mechanical means (shovelling and ploughing) as possible before application.

For optimum uptake of nutrients into the plant, the following guidelines should be followed:

Omex liquid products are supplied in high density plastic containers, fitted with tamper evident closures.

Selected carriers are used to ensure fast and economical delivery.

Table for calculating product and water volumes for sports areas

notes

1. Water rate can be reduced if required to half of the volume shown (equivalent of 500 litres/ha) but no further.

2. Always take care to avoid overlapping

3. Complete moss control may require more than one application per season, especially in periods of high rainfall and on naturally damp, poorly drained or shaded areas.

Apply• In the early morning or evening when humidity is high• To crops or amenity area that is actively growing

Avoid• Application to crops under severe stress from drought, frost or herbicide damage,• Application on hot, dry or windy conditions

Spray Mixture Preparation• Always shake the container before opening• Part fill the spray tank with clean water• Add the required amount of Wetter (SW7 or NA13), begin agitation

• Add the required amount of Omex product. This will dissolve completely with agitation• Half fill spray tank• Crop protection products may be added to spray tank, pre-mixed prior to addition• Fill the spray tank under agitation

Application rates are usually shown in litres per hectare (l/ha). When using the product on smaller areas less than 1 hectare (10,000m2) a suggested dilution rate is given in ml of product per green.

Best results are obtained with Omex products are applied frequently throughout the growing cycle.
