SThe 100 companies and their subsidiaries which received the largest

dollar volume of military prime contracts of $10,000 or more in fiscal ye-ar1964 accounted for 73.4* of the United States total. This is a decrease of

0.5 percentage points from the 73.9% during fiscal year 1963. The table

below shows that the 73.4% of prime contracts awarded to the top 100corporate groups during fiscal year 1964 was somewhat lower than the average

over the last 7 years. The first 10 companies had 1.7% more of the totalthan in fiscal year 1963, while the remaining companies had an overall

aecrease of 2.2%. It should be noted that about one-half of the militarywork of the large concerns is subcontracted with approximately 40% of theamount subcontracted going to small business concerns.

Boeing Company in second place with contract awards of $1,365.2million (5.4%), occupies the same position as in fiscal year 1963. Itscontract work was almost entirely in aircraft and missiles. The prin-cipal missile project is the Minuteman ICI4 Missile. Aircraft projectsinclude KC-135 Troop and Cargo Transports, CH-47A Chinook Troop Transport,CH-h6A Sea Knight Assault Transport Helicopters, and modification ofB-52 Strato Fortress bombers.

McDonnell Aircraft Corp., whose contracts totalled $1,157.4 million(4.6%), ranks third. This compares with a contract value of $497.0million and 9th position in fiscal year 1963. The prime contract work-of the company is predominantly for the production of the F-4 series ofPhantom II fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft for Navy and AirForce.

North American Aviation, Inc. received $1,019.5 million (4.1%) inawards, dropping from 3rd place in fiscal year 1963 to 4th place infiscal year 1964. Its major projects include research and developmentof the B-70 aircraft, the production of the A-5 Vigilante and T-39Sabreliner aircraft, missile propulsion equipment, and a wide varietyof electronic equipment, including guidance and control for theMinuteman missile and for ship navigational systems.I
