The Board of Directors wishes our members everywhere a very Happy Holiday season. Where has the time gone! We are just completing the first year of our two-year term and can remember last December’s installation as if it were yes-terday. It’s a shame we can’t remember daily things as vividly!

There won’t be a newsletter or meeting luncheon in January but we’ll meet again on Thursday, February 7, 2008.

DECEMBER LUNCHEON PROGRAM

We won’t have a speaker but will have holiday entertainment instead. We will have a Holiday Boutique with “sugar and spice and all things nice” for sale. We are looking for donations of jams and jellies, baked goods and nice items for sale at our Christmas luncheon. Please price your items beforehand. If you have any questions, please call me at 261-1146.

We’ll have our monthly PAC raffle and a grand door prize for some lucky win-ners.

50/50

Julia Allen was our 50/50 winner for November. The “pot” was split - $33 went to our OLRW PAC and $33 to Julia. Julia Generously donated $13.00 of her winnings to our PAC

The Pres Says... November Luncheon

Get Well SoonGet Well Wishes to Kari Akini who recently fell for the second time this year. We hope Kari will be well enough to join us at our December luncheon. Juanita Schiltz is back in the hospital. We will update you on her condition at the luncheon. Our Prayers are with her.

Great news from Bev Toomey: she plans to be walk-ing and joining us at our December luncheon. She’s so determined that she’s already ordered lunch for herself and Anne.

November Luncheon Meeting Highlights

Dr. Kalani Brady spoke to us on Healthy Living over 50. Dr. Brady is with the Department of Native Hawaiian Health of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. He has a private clinic, Hale Pulama Mau, Kuakini at 347 North Kuakini Street, 8th Floor. He travels to Kalaupapa on Sundays and Mondays and is at the clinic on Thursdays and Fridays. He promotes the interface of western medicine and traditional healing. He is listed in Honolulu Magazine’s Best Doctors in Hawaii in 2002, 2004, and 2006.

Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer for women, ahead of breast cancer and other female cancers? He emphasized the importance of being vigilant with your hypertension, cholesterol, and physical activity. Watch your sodium intake as well as your sugar consumption.

We welcomed guests, T. J. Davies, Evelyn Arakaki, and Ione Gumpfer to our luncheon.
