Credits: Music & Lyrics by Lionel Bart Ticket Prices: £16.00
East Ender Lionel Bart was a songwriting genius having a career penning huge
global chart hits, musicals film scores and one of the biggest musicals of all time
Oliver!. He was earning every minute the same as the average working man’s
weekly wage in the 1960s, but things went wrong, very wrong and by 1972 he was
tragically declared bankrupt. Was there a ‘Happy Ending’?
West End star John Barr (Les Miserables, Aspects of Love, Evita & Sweeney Todd)
takes on the title role and is joined by some very special guests and a full band as
they perform Bart’s most unforgettable hits.

Churchill Room, Wanstead Library, Spratt Hall Road, Wanstead, E11 2RQ
By popular demand: One performance of ‘What Do You See?’ (2.00 – 3.30 pm) with
touring theatre company Az2B. This play is about a care home that fails its
inspection by the Care Quality Commission and what it needs to do to put things
right. It explores the kinds of issue that can arise when people have dementia and
individual care plans need to be put in place versus the problems of
institutionalisation.
Then one performance of ‘Grandma, Remember Me’ (7.00 – 8.30 pm). This play is
about the impact of dementia on a family as seen through the eyes of the
granddaughter. There is never a dry eye but it can also disturb and at times make
you laugh.
Each play lasts an hour, after which there will be Q&A and discussion, with
refreshments before and after each performance.
Entry is free, but please let James Monger (Age UK) know if you wish to attend: 020
