A Note from the Pastor By Rev. Dr. Jame Hahs

1 Corinthians 13:1-7

Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut. Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first”, Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.

In Christ, Pastor Jame

Oktoberfest The weekend of Sept. 6-8 brings the return of the Havana Oktoberfest and UM Church’s Lemonade Shake-up stand. We will begin with lemon prep at 7:00pm on Thurs. the 5th. We will also set up the stand that afternoon/evening depending upon when help is available. If you can help with either of those prep nights, it would be appreciated. We will also need extra help to take down the tent on Sunday. As in past years the shifts run for two hours with a new set starting each hour so that they overlap. Don’t worry if you haven’t helped before—it is a lot of fun and there will be “veterans” there to help you. We will always take an extra pair of hands on any shift, but we will be extra busy after the parade on Friday (6-8pm) and at lunch and dinner times on Saturday. You can sign up in the church office, or by contacting Cathy Reavley (cell (309) 582-6102, [email protected],or Facebook). The serving times are 5-10pm on Friday, 10am-10pm on Saturday, and noon-5pm on Sunday. The youth will be our primary workers on Sunday and this will be the first service activity of the year. Youth group is open to all students in 5th grade through senior year. We will be continuing to donate 10% of our profits plus donations to Water is Life, an organization that goes into areas with an unclean water supply and provides a personal water purification and filtration “straw” for each member of the community. The straws are a 10 inch long tube with a 1 inch diameter that filters out particulate matter, kills organisms with an iodine compound, and then improves the taste with a carbon filter. Individuals wear the straw on a lanyard and take it everywhere they go. It is capable of cleaning drinking water for that individual for a year while the water supply is treated or a new well is drilled. The most amazing thing may be that the straws are only $10 each. For just a ten dollar bill you can give someone safe drinking water for a year! Every year we have a lot of fun and do a lot of good at the same time. If you have any questions, please contact Cathy.

New Web Page Our new web page is now up and running. It is havanaumc.org. Weekly sermons, newsletters, devotions and other pertinent information is available. Please check it out. If you have trouble getting into it, please let the church office know. Thank you!
