Nickname, region in the U.S., capital city, major cities and population

The nickname of Oklahoma is “The Sooner State.” Oklahoma is located in the region of the U.S. known

as The Southwest. The capital of Oklahoma is Oklahoma City. Three major cities in Oklahoma are Tulsa, Norman

and Broken Arrow. Oklahoma has a population of 3,751,351 people.

Current governor and state senators

The current governor of Oklahoma is Mary Fallin.There are two senators from Oklahoma: James

Mountain Inholfe and Thomas Allen Coburn. They are both republicans.

Six states border Oklahoma. They are Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.

Eastern Oklahoma has trees. Mountain ranges and swampy lowlands can be found in the south. The Red and Arkansas rivers can also be found in the south. In the west you will find canyons and sand dunes. You can find high, flat plains

almost everywhere.

coal, timber and agriculture.

Oklahoma is very good for agriculture/farming because it has plains with fertile soil. Oklahoma has the perfect conditions for growing wheat, peanuts, corn and peaches.

History and additional historical facts

Oklahoma became a state on November 16th, 1907. It was the 46th state.

Europeans first reached Oklahoma in 1541. France claimed the Oklahoma region as part of Louisiana

until 1762 when France ceded Louisiana to Spain. In 1999 one of the worst tornadoes in U.S. history strikes

Oklahoma with wind speeds reaching 318 mph.

PLACES TO VISIT One place to visit is Arbuckle Wilderness. You can

look at the wild, exotic and rare animals that live there.

You can also visit the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. There you can look at paintings, sculptures, photographs and decorative arts from Asia, Europe and the U.S.A.
