architecture in the province and has been building residential homes and commercial building with
the help of Engr. Manuel Murica as his project Engineer. Its office is currently located at CPG
North Ave. beside ISUZU building.
Yayo Builders is owned by Engr. Benedicto M. Macol, known for developing resorts in
Panglao island, building residential homes and dormitories in Bohol. He used to be a professor at
HNU Technology Dept. and same do contracting works before he formed Yayo Builders, Inc. The
company is known to accept students seeking OJT programs. It is currently located at F- Rocha
St. Tagbilaran City.
CHAPTER 2
Weekly Progress Report
Gworks Construction
May 14, 2014
I went to the Gworks office to meet with Arch.
Guidaben, the proprietor, he drove me to the site at Brgy.
Tiptip to meet Engr. Willie Murica who will give me the
tasks I will have to do for the project I will supervise. When
I arrived, the clearing already started and the layout was
about to begin for a 2-storey apartment owned by Director
Maryo J. Delos Reyes.
I was only introduced to the site and we discussed
about the SOP’s for my OJT program, I left before lunch
because I had to attend my summer class in the afternoon.

May 15, 2014
The staking was already finished when I arrived to
the site. It was time to layout the columns so I measured the
distance for each columns with a help of a worker. We
measured by following the plan and marking it with a stick.
(Figure 1)
May 20, 2014
I was tasked to rewrite the DTR of the workers and
the bill of materials for another project at the City Hall. The
excavation for the footings already started and the workers
started bending stirrups and tie wires. (Figure 2)
May 21, 2014
Went out to the People’s Lumber office
to follow up the orders for the project at Tiptip.
Afterwards, I reported to the Gworks office to
encode the purchased items and estimates.
Arch. showed me a sample of a structural
analysis made by Engr. Lupot for a 2-storey
building.
May 22, 2015
I was called out to the site to join them
for the Padugo, a traditional event in
construction where footings are dropped with a
blood of a slaughtered Visayan chicken before
it is poured with concrete for a lasting and strong structure. A fellowship between workers and
employers are done afterwards. (Figure 3 and 4)

May 24, 2014
Took a duty on the office to encode all purchased items of the
project and the bill of materials for the project at the City Hall.
May 27, 2014
I assisted on the construction site after checking their attendance.
I found out that there was an error on the installation of steel materials for
the columns. (Figure 6) 1 column was supposed to be used with 12mm
dia. Rebar but instead 16 mm dia. was used, however, Engr. Said to leave
it as it is and just assure no 16mm dia. Column must be replaced with
12mm dia. (Figure 5) Because it can affect the integrity of the structure.
I also took an inventory of the newly delivered 250 pcs. Of CHB.
May 28, 2014
When I arrived on the site, there was already an on-
going installation of wall partitions and the excavation for the
footing was already finished. I was tasked to settle the
payables on the materials delivered and ask a refund from
Engr. Willie. (Figure 7)

June 3, 2014
I was asked to make an estimate for the total area of
the ceiling for the project at the City Hall. Afterwards, I
encoded it to the Gworks office and finalized the payables for
the project at Tiptip. (Figure 8 and 9)
June 4, 2014
Checked the DTR of the workers at the site and gave
their salaries. Afterwards, I went to the office to finalize the
payables for the materials delivered at the site.
June 5, 2014
I checked the attendance of the workers at the site and
made an estimate of glasswork for the project at the City Hall.
(Figure 10)
June 6, 2014
Encoded the estimates for the City Hall project at the
office.
June 7, 2014
Distributed the honorariums of the workers at the site after checking their attendance. Made
an estimate on the municipal hall of Calape and encoded the payables at the office. In the afternoon,
I went to the site to have a meeting with Director Maryo J. Delos Reyes for some revisions and
updates on the ongoing project. (Figure 11)

Yayo Builders Inc.
April 28, 2015
My first day as an ojt of Yayo
builders started at 1:00 in the afternoon. I
was asked to visit the site at Lila (Figure
12) where I will have to compute the tiled
area of a 1-story residential house
installed by the company’s tile setters. I
was told that the company was only a sub-
contractor since they have good tile setters
in the province. My companion
throughout the day was Kuya Baloy, the
company driver, using the elf as service.
On the way to the site, we first
dropped by YY home builders to buy
painting materials for another project in
Songculan, Dauis (Figure 13). We dropped it off to the site before heading to Lila.
We arrived around 3:30pm in the site. I started measuring the area with the help of a builder
(Figure 14), he measured the sides I said to be measured while I took down a sketch to jot the
measurements. There were rooms that were already installed by another contractor so we just
measured the parts installed only by YAYO (Figure 15). We started from the rooms inside up to
the stairs outside. I finished measuring around 4:30pm, enough time to hit the road home. I finished
the draft at home to present the data the next day.
April 29, 2015
I presented the data to Engr.
Macol in the afternoon, he checked
and told me to re-compute the area
excluding the stairs because the
stairs must be computed in linear
meter together with the nosing. The
computations were used to know the
amount to be paid by the client.
After computing, he gave me
the bill of materials for the
residential project in Tamblot, I was asked to make a bar chart and s-curve
of it using the items given in the bill of materials (Figure 16 & 17). Unfortunately, all computers,
were dysfunctional because of the virus so I had to do the task manually.

April 30, 2015
I continued doing the bar chart, I had a hard time making it since I had not much idea on
how to estimate the actual no. of days since I’m a starter in the field of actual construction.
However, I tried asking Engr. Ben but he was quite busy so I had to ask some people in the office
who know. Unfortunately, not all had the idea so I had to seek an outside source from my
professors and co-Engineering friends.
May 4, 2015
I was asked to go to BOHECO office and inquire the requested quotation for the project in
Songculan.
I also continued doing the Bar chart.
May 5, 2015
We went to the on-going project at Tamblot
today together with the architect, secretary and
company driver to observe their work and give the
salary (Figure 19). They were currently pouring
concrete on the 2nd floor slab and beams manually
(Figure 18, 20 & 21). It was supposed to be via pump
Crete but unfortunately, the truck cannot fit inside the
site because of the narrow gate which is 10 meters away
from the house.
We ate dinner there together with the workers
and went home around 7pm.
May 6, 2015
Continued doing the S-curve and was asked to
deposit money at FCB (First Consolidated Bank)
May 7, 2015
I was asked to buy a pack of 3/8” washer at
Builderware and a male plumbing connector at
Handyman. The materials were intended for the water
heater installation on the project at Songculan.
May 8, 2015
I was asked to buy epoxy A&B and a gallon of thinner at Citi Hardware, a white quick dry
enamel at Cogon Hardware, and fishing net and nylon at Policarpo fishing store.

I have found an error on the computation of the bill of materials for the project at Tamblot,
it was on the total materials under the Concrete works and CHB installation. I was asked to apply
the corrections on the S-curve so I had to recreate another chart manually.
At around 3pm, the architect told me to go to the BOHECO office to ask for a re-
computation on the quotation requested because the client wants another transformer to be installed
near his lot for the electric post existing is too far from his property. It is also critical not to have
an additional electric post because there is another building to be constructed near the existing
electric post.
May 12, 2015
I went out to inquire internet services at BCCTv and PLDT for the office. On the way, I
also took a follow-up on the updated quotation at BOHECO office. I had to go overtime because
there is a general cleaning at the office.

CHAPTER 3
Assessment of OJT Program
1. What have I learned from the experience?
What I’ve learned in this OJT program is how to estimate properly all the materials. It can
be done in lump sum or itemized. All expenses should be noted and all delivered items should be
double checked.
I also gained an idea on how to efficiently make a manpower schedule. Another is knowing
the purpose of a contingency cost, in case there is an unavailability of the equipment and more
manpower is needed to finish the job. The purpose of the s-curve and bar chart was also realized,
this is frequently used for monitoring and goal-setting of the company to avoid mismanagement
and to track down how much is the cost to be released on a working day.
2. My experiences with people around me?
I have experienced to be around people of different personalities. I have realized that
efficient communication is needed to make your employees work efficiently and make your project
successful. It must be remembered to give them just compensation for their hard work.
3. The most memorable event during my OJT
I would never forget the Padugo activity where footings are dropped with a blood of a
slaughtered Visayan chicken before it is poured with concrete, it is believed to make a lasting and
strong structure. It is also another way to get along with the workers of the project because of the
fellowship after the traditional activity.
4. Recommendations
None
5. Advice to those who will take the OJT program
It is much better to try to work in at least 2 different employers in construction to expand
your knowledge in project management and know their different techniques and strategies.

every afternoon since I have a summer class in the morning.
In connection with this, I would like to apply as a trainee in your company not only to finish my
On-the-job training but also to broaden my knowledge and gain more experience on my chosen
course.
I am hoping that this request merits your most favourable approval.
Thank you and May God continually bless us.
Sincerely,
Nadine Marie Silva
