Attendance-EVERY DAY MATTERS!

Our goal each week is to have more than 95% of our students at school EVERY day for that particular week, Friday-Thursday (to align with the release of the newsletter). Students who are late, or who leave early are not included in the data, but all other absence types where at least one FULL day of school is missed, is calculated in the data, regardless of the reason. OSHC With the new term, our Before and After School Care service, provided by TheirCare is now officially operational in the playgroup building at the back of the school. All week we have seen students having a great time during both the before school and after school sessions.

The before school sessions run start from 6:30am and conclude at 8:45am. The afternoon sessions begin from 3:10pm and conclude at 6:00pm. Parents are asked to please remember to pre-book and notify the office if your child needs to be written on or off the bus in the afternoon. When dropping off and picking up children from the service, parents are also welcome to park around the back of the school and enter through the fence gate.

For further information about the service, please do not hesitate to contact “TheirCare” directly on 0459 100 511. Enrolments can also be made through the website: www.theircare.com.au Term 3 Events Now more than ever, we know that community events are subject to change, however that hasn’t stopped us in making preparations for lots of events to take place throughout the term. Please see below for a summary of the events and dates that we have scheduled for the term. Stay tuned for more information on these events, closer to the time. • Parent-Teacher Interviews (29th of July-1/2 R & 5th of August-rest of school)

Office Request We noticed towards the end of last term and so far this week the office had been fielding lots of phone enquiries relating to information that had previously been sent home, including family invoice statements. Whilst we are always more than happy to assist, we would like to request that families take care with notices and other pieces of paperwork that are sent home to reduce the environmental impact of re-printing these and to reduce the manhours needed to field these enquires. Thank you for your understanding and support in this matter.

Kindest of regards,

Daniel Clark,

Wellbeing Update Respectful Relationships Our school has been part of the Respectful Relationships initiative since 2020. Respectful Relationships is a whole school approach that supports our school to embed a culture of respect and gender equality across our entire school community. We also teach respectful relationships education in classrooms across the school. This education focuses on personal safety, and works towards building students’ social and emotional skills by supporting them to recognise and regulate emotions, develop empathy for others and build and manage safe and respectful relationships. For the next few weeks, in classrooms, students will be learning the skill of: GENDER AND IDENTITY Prep • Students will engage in activities which will help them reflect on their gendered identity, develop an awareness

of positive and negative gender norms, challenge negative gender norms, and develop an appreciation of difference.

The students in 1/2, are focusing on the skill of: HELP-SEEKING • Students will engage in activities which will help them practise soling simple interpersonal problems, identify

ways to care for others, including ways of making and keeping friends, discuss the importance of seeking help when dealing with problems that are too big to solve alone, and practise seeking help from adults and peers.

The students in 3/4, are focusing on the skill of: STRESS MANAGEMENT • Students will engage in activities which will help describe the influence that people, situations and events have

on their emotions, explore strategies to manage physical, social and emotional change, describe and apply strategies that can be used in situations that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe, explain the value of self-discipline and goal-setting in helping them to learn and to cope with change and challenge, and describe personal strengths and identify coping strategies that they can apply to help them cope with change and challenge.

The students in 5/6, are focusing on the skill of HELP SEEKING • Students will engage in activities which will help them to identify situations in which they should seek help in

working through problems, identify a list of trusted people to seek out when needing help, normalise and de-stigmatise help-seeking behaviour, and contribute to groups and teams.

If you would like to have conversations with your children to support this learning, please feel free to speak with your child’s teacher about the specific lessons they have planned.

Three-Year-Old Kindergarten is coming to the Wellington Shire Do you know a child who will be three in 2022? Just like with Four-Year-Old Kindergarten, Three-Year-Old Kindergarten programs will be tailored to meet the needs of children. Qualified teachers support children’s learning and development through play-based learning. Research shows that two years of quality kindergarten are better than one.

Prep Support Class

From 2022, Boisdale Consolidated School will be offering families the opportunity to enrol their children into one of two Prep programs. In addition to the mainstream program, a Prep Support Class will also be on offer. Who is the Prep Support Class for? The Prep Support Class will be pre-dominantly suited for children who turn five between the months of January and April. The program is designed to support the learning of children in their first year of schooling who are: • School-aged but are still quite young and may not be ready for the traditional rigours

of schooling. • School-aged but may be developmentally suited to learn through play and

exploration. • In need of additional support to further develop their oral language, communication

and social skills. How is the Prep Support Class different to the other Prep classes? The Prep Support Class program is an oral language and play based program which also supports children to further develop their fine and gross motor skills. Literacy and numeracy is predominantly taught through explorative play and investigations. More traditional aspects of literacy and numeracy are introduced to the program throughout the year as students demonstrate a readiness for this type of learning. Other aspects of the program include: • Smaller class size (capped at 15) • Education Support staff member included as an additional support for children • Participation in whole-school activities including cooking, swimming, incursions/

excursions and assemblies. • Participation all specialist programs which include: Physical Education, Art, Music and

Indonesian. • On-going monitoring and assessment of achievement and progress, guided by the

Victorian Curriculum. How do I know if the Prep Support Class is for my child? Talk with your child’s kindergarten teacher or speak with our staff to find out more about the program. For further information contact Daniel Clark at Boisdale Consolidated School on 5145 4391.
