VortClarex™• Removes up to 99.9% of free oil• Releases effluent with a quality in

the range of 10 mg/L or less• Installs and maintains easily• Non-turbulent flow-through

system increases separation• Minimal site work requires no

hold down straps• Precast concrete structure

ensures durability

• Underground, traffic-rated BMP maximizes land use

Oil Stop Valve• Uses existing storm drains and

pipes as secondary containment• Modular manhole design

simplifies installation• Requires no electrical power

to operate, and only periodic inspection

• Stainless steel materials and passive design with only one moving part ensures reliability

• Acts as a standalone structure or works in conjunction with an upstream oil/water separatorsuch as the VortClarex™

• Needs no operator adjustment or monitoring

• Is virtually maintenance free

VortClarex™Highly efficient oil/water separation

VortClarex employs innovative coalescing media to remove free oilfrom contaminated stormwater flowsand help site owners comply with reg-ulations. The system is ideally suited forsites where specific effluent targets arespecified, or for sites where removal ofoil and grease is the greatest concern.

Conventional oil/water separators provide gravity separation by usingbaffles or T-sections, but are only effec-tive on oil droplets greater than 150microns. The VortClarex coalescingmedia maximizes surface area, increasing performance and effluentquality. It is typically sized to remove oildroplets as small as 60 microns, andachieve an effluent concentration of 10mg/L or less.

The VortClarex coalescing media ishoused within a precast concrete vault.Unlike other oil/water separators constructed of fiberglass or steel, itdoes not require anti-floatation hold-down straps or concrete traffic collars.Maintaining the system is easy using astandard water hose and vacuum truck, and the media can be cleaned eitherinside or outside the structure.

How does it work? Flows enter the VortClarex system viaa non-clog diffuser and are distributed across the chamber width. The influent passes over a solids baffle wall where settleable solidsdrop out, reducing the amount ofsolids in the flow as it enters the coalescing media. As the flow passesthrough the media, oily pollutantsaccumulate on the surface and comeinto contact with others to form larger, more buoyant droplets. These

buoyant droplets rise upward throughthe media and are released near thewater surface. The oil is trappedbehind the outlet T-pipe, and treatedwater exits the system.

VortClarex Accessories:Oil Skimmer

• Draws off excess oil between maintenance cycles

• Increase oil capacity of structure

• Extends maintenance intervals

VortClarex• Laminar flow-through media pack maximizes separation, and

increases rise rates and separation effectiveness• Polypropylene coalescing media treats droplets as small as 60

microns and is easy to clean• Precast concrete structure ensures durability, meets HS-20

loading requirements, and is easy to install

The Oil Stop Valve reduces the risk of catastrophic oil spills beingreleased from your site. The fullyadjustable float accommodates any oil type, oil depth, or alarm condition. A simple mechanism, fewmoving parts, and corrosion resistant stainless steel constructionensure long product life.

How it works 1. In a spill situation, free oil and

stormwater flow into the manhole containment structure through thestorm drain pipe inlet and stop valve. While the floating oil accumulates on the water surface in the structure, clean water exits through the skimmer pipe. As the layer of oil gets thicker, the stainless steel float, calibrated to the density of water, begins to sinkin the lighter oil.

2. When the accumulated oil reaches a predetermined depth, the float sinks, which triggers thelever and closes the stop valve. The closed valve prevents additional oil or stormwater fromflowing through the structure and leaving the site until the unitis reset.
