The oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico malfunctioned. Both its manual and emergency blowout preventers failed to deploy. An oil rig blowout has the potential to occur when some combination of mud, oil, natural gas, and water erupt from the well and ignite at the surface, exploding.

ingest oil and it makes the animal sick.

Oil can stick to birds feathers and makes them lose the insulation which can cause the bird to die of hypothermia.

Oil can also weigh down a birds feathers making it where the cannot fight predators.

It can disturb fish and turtle eggs as well

People Many studies suggest that short-term exposure can cause

nausea, headache, dizziness, and eye and throat irritation.

People where the oil ruined the beaches have much higher risk of post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety which means higher rates of heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory disorders and other physical illnesses.

Business that have fish, shrimp, crabs and oysters are affected buy the oil spill because most of the animals were effected. In turn, the people are effected because if they own a business that involves the sea creatures harmed they may go out of business.

The most famous oil spill was in 1989. Exxon Valdez released around 11 million gallons

The spill in the Gulf of Mexico was the worst oil spill in the U.S. history, the costs to clean it was over 1 billion dollars.

Gambling websites are placing odds on what species will be first to become extinct as a result of the oil spill.

The Gulf Coast is prime hurricane country, and if a storm comes the oil could lead to a more powerful hurricane because it would raise the temperature of the surrounding water.
