Oil Leak Detection Applications
Table of Contents
Since TTK cables / probes are product sensing, our technology is for external leak de-
tection.
TTK sensing system is capable of detecting light / heavy refined products, crude oils,
lubricant / dielectric oils, solvents and petrochemical compounds (water insoluble) such
as aromatics, MTBE / ETBE amongst others.
Early detection with accurate location of oil leaks provided by the system allows reacting
at a very early stage thus preventing environmental damage and safety hazards.
TTK sensors do not require any calibration or whatsoever maintenance and are reusable
- they can hence be easily tested on site, in real conditions.
Since TTK sensors are addressable (thanks to microprocessor embedded in each cable
/ probe), the overall system is true multi-leak: independent alarms, reliable localization
of each single leak.

TTK OIL SENSING SOLUTIONS
TTK is specializing in design and manufacture of Liquid Leak Detection Systems based
on addressable product sensing cables and/or probes – patented technology.
Since it was established in 1989, the company has built its brand name on Quality and
Innovation, with references throughout the world.
We offer innovative products and tailored solutions for detecting liquid leaks of different
nature (water, acids, oil), for both industrial and commercial applications.
TTK has headquarters in Paris, all our products being manufactured in France – our
R&D center and the manufacturing facilities are located close to Paris.
TTK has offices in Europe, Canada, Middle East and Asia.
TTK products hold a number of recognized international safety standards and specific
approvals such as UL, TUV/GS, IEC, and ATEX.
Thanks to advanced technology and high reliability of its products, TTK has achieved a
recognized leadership via numerous project references all over the world.
Sensing Cable FG-OD

Detection Principle
4
Connectors on our oil sense cables are water-tight (IP68).
A sensing circuit is composed by several interconnected cables:
• standard lengths of a single cable: 3m, 7m, 12m, 20m
• single circuit length: up to 800m
Depending on the application, several circuits can be installed, to cover the full required
sensing length.
Three different types of sense cables, each having a different sensitivity, have been de-
veloped:
• FG-OD: standard sensitivity
• FG-ODC: enhanced sensitivity
• FG-ODR: reduced sensitivity – for applications where traces of hydrocarbon (e.g. as
vapor) can be normally present.
Though we’ve originally developed our cables to spot liquid leaks, they also prove to be
sensitive to vapor / VOC presence – in particular, our sense cable with enhanced sensi-
tivity, FG-ODC.
Besides sense cables, the complete oil leak detection system includes the monitoring
unit FG-NET-LL, plus satellite devices FG-BBOX-LL if required.
The monitoring unit FG-NET-LL has the following main features:
• Digital, Fully Addressable
• Monitoring Up to 2400 meter FG-OD Sense Cables, over three circuits
• Touch Screen Interface
• Dynamic Leak Evolution Analysis
• TCP/IP & MODBUS/JBUS Connection
• Web Interface: to remotely view, configure and control FG-NET on a connected com-
puter
TTK hydrocarbon leak detection systems for Oil & Gas industry are specially designed to
be installed in different environments - explosive areas, underground or above ground
installations, … - and for various applications, such as tank farms, underground storage
tanks, pipelines, transfer lines, process units, airports.
When used for underground installation, the cable is inserted in a sleeve-protected
slotted pipe as illustrated in the picture aside, to keep it serviceable / accessible (e.g.
visual / olfactory checking in case of leak detection, …):
When used for above ground (outdoor) installations, the cable is inserted in a wrap-
around braid to protect it from UV rays (long-term aging effects). The sleeve will also
enhance contact between leaked hydrocarbon liquid and the sense cable.
Probe (Point Sensor): FG-ODP• Fast response
• Reusable
• Addressable
• Sensing Height: 118 mm
• Can be combined with FG-OD sense cables
• Monitoring od drain pits, low points, …

Mono-directional Sensing Rows
Sense Cable ‘Grid’ Installation in 3D
• «Mono-directional rows» or «grid» for sensing cable• Proposed cable row distance / sensing length = 7m
• RETROFITTING
Installation around the storage tank - at tank wall bottom

The system will spot leaks from:• Wall and Roof• Bottom, if sitting on impermeable
pad / slab : clay, asphalt, concrete• If tank bottom plate corroded
-> leak spreads horizontally at the contact interstice
• Located at « high point » ->not affected by oil traces in the soil
• Early detection especially if water is present in drain pipe (oil will stay / float at high point : floor sump)

EASY TO INSTALL:
• Positioning: close to pipeline bottom crown
• In slotted pipes (40 mm dia. to allow sensor extraction / insertion if required
• Filtering fabric sleeve around the slotted pipe
• Accessible via draw pits – every 200-400m
• Pulling tape + pulling connectors used for sense cable insertion
