Oil Drum Oven for Baking Building an oven using an old, clean metal oil drum (covered in clay or mud) can provide an opportunity to generate an income by baking items to sell. This idea, when perfected, could also generate an income for an engineer and team, by charging a small amount to install them for others. Prepare oil drum:
1) Create a door, using the lid, by adding a hinge on one side. On opposite side add a handle. 2) Create 2 or 3 shelves for inside by cutting sheets of metal to fit width of oil drum. 3) Add metal strips along the length of oil drum inside to hold shelves in place.
Prepare site for oven:
1) Place oil drum, in desired place, on ground. Mark the outline and remove. 2) Place bricks or stones along the 2 edges. 3) Dig shallow pit within marked area.
Prepare oven:
1) Place oil drum resting on the 2 lines of bricks, over shallow pit. 2) Cover oil drum with thick layer of clay or mud. 3) Light small fire in pit below oven to dry the clay/mud – fill gaps which may appear (The clay will
insulate the oven and keep the heat inside – may need repairing as used)
