Word Wall Words -
OII use these as flashcards, to introduce our new phoneme (or review a previously taught one) They then go up on our ‘Word Wall’ as a reference for children to use when completing phoneme/digraph related work during the week. Depending on how much support children need with a given phoneme, I might leave all or a few of the words up throughout the month/term/year (take your pick!).
When I need to take words down to make space for new ones, I keep the words available for my class by using ‘retired phoneme pockets’. I transfer the larger phoneme label onto pockets tacked to the wall. I then place all of the wall word cards in the correct pocket– if and when kids need them, they are still available, but they aren’t using up all of the available ‘Word Wall’ space.
A note for any Americans who download this – I know that we don’t use the ‘oi’ sound when we pronounce ‘tortoise’, but in the UK they do!
If you have any problems downloading or printing this, please let me know. The font looks ‘fuzzy’ in the PDF, but prints fine – I’ve checked!
