GAME 12: OHIO STATE VS. PURDUE

BUCKEYES SWEEP B1G WEEKLY AWARDS• Coming off its best off ensive performance of

the season, Ohio State swept the weekly Big Ten honors on Dec. 23, as sophomore Dorka Juhasz was named the Player of the Week and Jacy Sheldon was the Freshman of the Week.

• For Juhasz, this is her fi rst Big Ten Player of the Week award and Sheldon also claimed her fi rst Big Ten weekly award.

• Juhasz and Sheldon combined to score 50 of the Buckeyes’ season-high 104 points in their 104-74 win at Sacramento State on Dec. 17.

• Juhasz tied career-highs of 27 points, 16 re-bounds, three assists and three blocks. Shel-don scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting and she also grabbed fi ve rebounds.

TOPPING 100• The Buckeyes topped 100 points in the win

at Sacramento State to close out non-confer-ence play on Dec. 17. They defeated the Hor-nets 104-74 in what was their highest scoring game of the season to date.

• That was the 34th time in program history that the Buckeyes hit the century mark in a game and the fi rst since scoring 103 points in a 103-70 win over Dartmouth on Dec. 15, 2017.

BELL NAMED B1G FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK• Kierstan Bell averaged 14.5 points and shot

over 62 percent in the wins over No. 2 Louis-ville and Radford and was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Dec. 9.

• This was the fi rst honor for Bell and the Buck-eyes of the season.

• Dorka Juhasz, who was named B1G Fresh-man of the Week twice last season, was also named to the weekly honor roll on Dec. 9.

TAKING DOWN A TOP5• With its 67-60 victory over No. 2 Louisville on

Dec. 5, Ohio State claimed its 13th win over a top-5 team in program history.

• Prior to that win, the Buckeyes’ last victory over a top-5 team was also against a No. 2 in No. 2 Maryland on Feb. 20, 2017.

• The win against Louisville also snapped the Cardinal’s 102 game win streak against un-ranked opponents.

ANOTHER WIN IN THE BIG TEN/ACC CHALLENGE• Ohio State has struggled in the annual event,

claiming just four wins in 13 tries, but it has won each of its last two games in the challenge.

• Coming off last year’s surprise win over North Carolina, the Buckeyes stepped up again and took down No. 2 Louisville this season 67-60 on Dec. 5.

• Ohio State also won two games in a row in 2010 and 2011, beating Virginia and Florida State.

SHELDON AND MIKULASIKOVA SHINE IN VEGAS • Usually what happens in Vegas, stays in

Vegas but Ohio State got a couple of big games from two of it’s freshmen that need acknowledged.

• Rebeka Mikulasikova scored 19 points on

5-of-9 shooting and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the game vs. South Dakota. The 19 points were the most scored by a Buck-eye to that point in the season.

• Jacy Sheldon notched her fi rst collegiate double-double in the win over Northern Iowa, scoring 13 points on 2-of-3 from long range and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Dub-lin, Ohio native also snatched a season-high four steals.

16 IS THE NUMBER FOR JUHASZ • Sixteen rebounds in a game is a lot for one

player. Sophomore forward Dorka Juhasz has not only done that once, but four times in her short career.

• Juhasz has done it twice so far this season, fi rst against Ohio on Nov. 17 and then again on Dec. 17 at Sacramento State.

• She also had 16 rebounds vs. North Carolina last year on Nov. 29 and against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament.

CROOMS DOUBLES UP FOR FIRST TIME • Sophomore Janai Crooms notched the

fi rst double-double of her career when she scored 10 points and had 12 assists in the overtime win at Cincinnati on Nov. 13.

• That was the fi rst double-double for a Buck-eye with points and rebounds since Ameryst Alston did it on Feb. 21, 2015.

• It was the fi rst time a Buckeye did it on the road since Sammy Prahalis notched 12 points and 11 rebounds at Wisconsin on Dec. 30, 2011.

CROOMS IN THE POSITIVE • Taking care of the ball was one of the main

focuses for sophomore guard Janai Crooms as she headed into her second season.

• She had just seven games last year in which she had a positive assist-to-turnover ratio.

• This year, she already has four positive assist-to-turnover games including a ca-reer-high 12 assist game at Cincinnati.

CAREER NIGHT FOR CROOMS IN THE QUEEN CITY • Janai Crooms enjoyed a career-game in the

overtime win at Cincinnati on Nov. 13.• The Cranston, R.I. native dished-out a ca-

reer-high 12 assists and coupled with her 10 points, she recorded her fi rst career dou-ble-double.

• Crooms also tied her career-high with three blocks and made a career-high tying six of eight free throws.

BUCKEYES IN OVERTIME • After its 78-73 win at Cincinnati on Nov. 13,

the Buckeyes are now 24-21 in overtime games.

• Ohio State has won its last four overtime games with the last three all coming on the road.

• In the win at Cincinnati, freshman Jacy Shel-don scored all seven of her points for the night in the extra session, including a huge three-pointer with 2:23 to play which gave the Buckeyes the lead for good.

• The Buckeyes had two diff erent possessions early in the second quarter when they could have taken a lead but each time, Purdue an-swered with a run. The second run was a 13-0 spurt that pushed the lead out to 14 and the Boilermakers would lead 34-25 at the half.

• Purdue scored the fi rst four points of the third quarter but the Buckeyes answered with threes from Waterman and Queenland to get back to within seven at 38-31. Each team trad-ed runs throughout the rest of the quarter and the Purdue lead remained 42-35 after three.

CREATING THE EXTRA POSSESSION• When the Buckeyes commit fewer turnovers

and have more rebounds in the same game, thus creating more possessions, good things usually happen.

• Under McGuff , Ohio State is 47-1 when creating those extra possessions.

MAGIC NUMBER 70• Head coach Kevin McGuff ’s style of fast paced

off ense leads to more possessions and hope-fully more points.

• Since he took over at the start of the 2013-14 season, the Buckeyes are 90-11 when scoring at least 80 points and 123-24 when scoring at least 70 points.

• This season, the Buckeyes have four wins when hitting the 70 mark.
