Hello! My name is Samantha Thobe, and I am the 2018 Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Sponsorship Director at The Ohio State University. I am writing to you because your company has either sponsored OSU SWE programs in the past or has shown interest in developing a relationship with our student organization. In an attempt to streamline and simplify the involvement process for companies, we have created this sponsorship packet to showcase the opportunities that we have available. In this document you will find:
- Information about our student organization
- Information about available sponsorship & involvement opportunities
- Information about our new graduate events
We strive to maintain a relationship with our company sponsors that allows OSU SWE to foster an environment that grows and supports women in engineering while allowing companies to network with potential recruits. If you have done an event with us in the past—THANK YOU! I hope your company will continue to collaborate with OSU SWE. It is because of the generous support of companies that Ohio State SWE can continue to promote the development of women in STEM fields. Through my involvement with Ohio State SWE, I have received incredible opportunities and have seen myself develop both as an engineer and as a leader; through strong company involvement, I hope to create a powerful Ohio State SWE section for many students to come. If you have any questions about information in this packet, please do not hesitate to email or call me. We are very flexible with the type of events that we have and are willing to work with your company to organize an event that suits your needs. The opportunities for partnership are almost limitless! Thank you in advance and we look forward to working with you. Sincerely,
Samantha Thobe SWE Sponsorship Director The Ohio State University [email protected] (419) 852-2517

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORING
Annual SWE Career Fair
On January 30th 2019, SWE, in partnership with Ohio State’s Engineering Career Services, will be
hosting an annual career fair open to all engineering students. This is an excellent opportunity to
increase visibility for your organization. The career fair is attended by thousands of highly qualified
individuals seeking internships, co-op, and career opportunities.
If your organization is interested in having a booth at our career fair, please contact our career fair
coordinator, Natalie Kennedy, at [email protected] for more information.
Networking Night
The evening before the SWE career fair, our section will be hosting a
networking event. This is an excellent opportunity for a face to face
interaction with Ohio State students in a more informal setting than
the career fair. The event is targeted towards minority students, but
is open to the entire college of engineering. SWE also partners with
IISE in the fall for a networking night before The Ohio State
Engineering Expo.
If interested in either event, please contact our career fair coordinator, Natalie Kennedy, at
[email protected] or our Special Events coordinator, Catherine Wang, at
[email protected] for more information.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORING
Graduate Industry Connect Events
Ohio State SWE closely collaborates with the Women in Engineering Graduate Council (WEGC) to continue to pursue and grow upon our commitment to bettering all women in engineering, expanding beyond undergraduate SWE members.
Graduate Networking Night
Our graduate networking event is held prior to the SWE career fair. This event provides an
opportunity for companies to meet prospective R&D candidates in a more targeted setting than the
larger career fair. The networking night draws graduate students from many engineering fields and
research emphases seeking internships and full-time positions.
Brunch Roundtable
The Industry Connect Brunch Roundtable is an opportunity for company representatives to interact
with OSU College of Engineering graduate students over brunch. During this event, participants
discuss how to leverage both strengths and weaknesses to navigate career advancement and
interaction with different personalities in the workplace. It is a wonderful opportunity for students
to get a better understanding of industry culture as well as for company representatives to get to
know job candidates on a deeper level.
If interested in either of our Graduate Industry Connect events, please contact our graduate council at
[email protected] or, Protiva Rahman, SWE’s graduate student representative, at
Information Sessions & Professional Development Events
Ohio State SWE regularly partners with companies to
create unique and useful professional development
events both for the students and the companies. Such
professional development events can include mock
interviews, resume reviews, and career fair preparation.
These events provide a great opportunity for companies
to network with students and explain more about what
they do. Also, company info sessions and professional
development presentations can be scheduled
before/after our monthly meetings.
If you would like to be considered for this type of event during the 2018-2019 year, contact our Professional
Development director, Yvonne Johnson at [email protected] with any questions.

Women in Leadership Speaker Series
Our Women in Leadership Speaker Series invites female leaders
with advanced STEM degrees to tell the story of their career path
and provide advice for future leaders. We have hosted speakers
working in research at NASA, GM, and Battelle as well as faculty
members in Chemical, Electrical, Agricultural, Computer, and
Biomedical Engineering and other STEM areas.
Please contact our Graduate Student Representative, Protiva Rahman, at [email protected], for more
information about Graduate to Undergraduate Mentorship or the Women in Leadership Speaker Series.
Big/Little SWEsters Peer Mentoring Group
This is the sixth year of the Ohio State SWE peer mentoring group. In this program, underclassmen
are placed in groups called SWE Families with upperclassmen according to major, interests,
availability, etc. The goal of these families is to provide underclassmen with a good mentor in
engineering who can relate to them and help give them advice on things like academics, internships,
or just how to survive freshman year at Ohio State. Also, by having someone to talk to at SWE events,
we hope to encourage underclassmen to participate more regularly. Big Little puts on events
specifically for the participants to get together such as movie nights, craft nights, resume reviews,
and other activities around the city of Columbus in order to encourage our members to meet up
with their SWE Families and form connections that will help them in the future.
If interested in working with this program, please contact our Big/Little Coordinator, Amanda Slager, at

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORING
Graduate to Undergraduate Mentorship Program
In this new program, undergraduates considering graduate school are paired with graduate students
in their engineering discipline. We offer a meet-and-greet at the beginning of each semester for
mentors and mentees. Additionally, mentors have informal meetings with their mentees monthly
to discuss questions or concerns regarding graduate school and research opportunities. This allows
them to initially gauge if graduate school would be a good fit for them and learn what steps they
need to get there.
If interested in working with this program, please contact our graduate student representative, Protiva
Rahman at [email protected]
OUTREACH AND EDUCATION

SWEsters at Buckeyethon
Please contact our Sponsorship Director, Sam Thobe, at [email protected] for more
information.
Discover Engineering
For Discover Engineering, SWE goes to a local middle school and exposes students to engineering through fun and challenging projects. This occurs twice a month, and each visit highlights a different type of engineering. Some projects include constructing roller-coasters, testing chemical properties of various materials, and launching bottle rockets. SWE is also looking to host an Engineering Day with high school students this year.
Please contact our Outreach Director, Sarah Shaffer, at [email protected] for more information.
Buckeyethon is Ohio State’s
annual dance marathon to raise
money for the Children’s Miracle
Network. Students participating
in the dance marathon raise
money and choose a 12 hour shift
to dance with Miracle Kids of
Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
We are currently looking for a
company to sponsor our team.
