    So you want towork for Ofsted?Were delighted that youre interested in working

    for Ofsted and would like to tell you a bit moreabout what we do. We have one of the best known

    and trusted names in the public sector and yet

    we are still a comparatively new organisation.

    Our work touches the lives of millions of people in England everyday. In fact, at least one in every three people use the serviceswe inspect or regulate, or the information we provide.

    We are in the privileged position of being able to userst-hand evidence in our independent, objective analysisto help raise standards and improve lives. We reportwithout fear or favour to make a positive differencefor children, young people and adult learners.

    Its something we are passionate about. Whether its focusing onissues of national importance through inspection, investigatingcomplaints about care to ensure compliance with nationalstandards or celebrating outstanding achievement, whatmakes us tick is the knowledge that what we do helps andprotects countless individuals, among them some of theyoungest and most vulnerable members of society.

    But its a privilege that comes with great responsibility. We apply the sameexacting standards to ourselves as we do to those we inspect as we strive toimprove efciency and effectiveness and become an exemplary organisation.

    In championing improvement for children and learners, we areconstantly listening and learning ourselves so that we can bettersafeguard the interests of service users, provide evidence of realvalue for money for taxpayers and make more of an impact.

    We are also trying to reduce demands on service providers and improvethe information we provide so that people can better see how publicservices meet their needs and can make informed decisions accordingly.

    By far our biggest asset in meeting these key challenges is our people.Its their knowledge, expertise and commitment that enables us todeliver our extensive programme of regulatory and inspection activities.

    What can Ofstedoffer you?As an Ofsted employee you will be part of a

    substantial national team with a huge remit across

    education, childrens services and skills.

    As a full-time employee, you will normally work a 5-day week of 36hours excluding lunch breaks and you will be entitled to a generousannual leave allowance of 32.5 days a year, plus eight days publicholiday (taken at xed times of the year). There are a minimum of ve dayssupport for your learning and development needs each year.

    If youre looking for exibility, youve come to the right place.We are one of the countrys leading organisations for home-based working, with all our inspectors linked up to our excellentinformation technology systems from their home.

    Our comprehensive support package for home-based workersincludes nancial support to set up a home workstation, the

    supply of IT equipment (laptop, printer, business telephone line,mobile) and, wherever possible, a broadband connection.

    We also provide a home-based working allowance of 460 a year, plustravel expenses from when you leave home to undertake work, a fullhealth and safety assessment and regional ofce to support your work.

    to full your career potential. You will receive an induction intothe organisation and into each new role you undertake.

    To help ensure that the role is right for you and to give you extra support andfocus when you join the organisation, you will serve a probationary period,during which time you will be supported closely by your manager.

    You will also be assisted in your continuing development bymanagers who are able to coach and guide you through astructured performance management and appraisal system.
