As part of KOC’s long term strategy of increasing the country’s export capacity, substantial investments are being made to expand the marine facilities in coming years. The new tugs will be assisting tankers at nearshore loading terminals and at the new single point moorings further

offshore, for which they will also be equipped with a powerful fire fighting system.

The cooperation between KOC and Damen goes back to late 1980’s, when Damen delivered steel crew / pilot tenders and the large fire fighting / terminal tug

“Sabahi” to KOC. In the early nineties, after liberation from the Iraqi invasion, Damen delivered to KOC a complete new fleet of tugs, crew tenders, work boats and mooring boats.

Damen has supported KOC throughout all these years with provision of technical services, spare parts, and maintenance / renovation assistance. Damen’s naval architects and designers in The Netherlands have already started working on the development of this unique series of state-of-the-art tugs. Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania will be constructing all 14 units, with deliveries scheduled from 2014 onwards.

Damen to build 14 terminal tugs for Kuwait Oil CompanyDamen and Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) have signed a contract for 14 Damen ASD Tugs. An extensive process of yard prequalification and tender evaluation finally resulted in an award to Damen this summer. The series consist of two types, with 9 tugs of Damen’s recently launched 3212 model and 5 units of the well-known 2810 design, providing 80 respectively 50 tons of bollard pull. While being based on existing Damen designs, these tugs have been extensively tailored to meet KOC’s exacting requirements on layout, systems and performances.

R3B Solutions is a professional company which provides the total package of safety solutions for the on- and offshore industry. This includes the oil and gaz industry, the energy market, the piping industry, container terminalsand the shipbuilding industry. R3Bprovides safe working solutions for confined space entry, working at height and rope access. R3B is specialized in the integration of emergency response in the normal working procedures.

Confined space entry and RescueMost organizations in the on- and offshore industry are well aware of the dangers when entering confined spaces. Entry procedu-res, work permits and atmospheric monitoring before entry are very common these days. Although these work methods have gre-atly increased safety, accidents still happen. An often overlooked problem is how to get people out of confined spaces and how

to provide an effective and save response with a “true” capability to evacuate people under the most difficult circumstances. This not only means having the availability of some basic rescue materials, but it means having people well prepared to do a professional rescue job. A lot of times calling the fire and rescue service is not an option or the fire and rescue services don’t have the capability to do the job. Depending on the site specific circumstances this emergency preparedness demands more or less from the organization and is typically made to measure work. This is where R3B can help your organization with bringing in expertise, so the safety and rescue solutions are integrated in a safe system of work and do “really” work.

Work at height and co-worker Rescue During work at height activities a lot of employees face the risk of falling. This is why people carry

fall arrest harnesses and lanyards. Although these will stop the fall, a new problem has risen. When an employee hangs in his harness, he has to get back on earth. This might seem easy when the work takes place on a scaffolding tower on land and there is a floor just below the unlucky employee who fell but is still conscious and unharmed.

The problem however is more serious, when this employee is unconscious, is hanging 25 meters above sea level and 20 meters sideways out of a platform hanging on a 5 meter diameter crane beam. Bringing this person back on board is a more demanding problem, but still necessary. R3B helps organizations with implementing procedures, organizing training and providing equipment for these situations.

Rope accessRope access is a relatively cheap and easy way to reach places where people normally cannot come. Working while hanging suspended from ropes looks dangerous to the untrained eye, but industry statistics show it is one of the safest ways of doing work in difficult places, which cannot be done in another way. Inspections, controlling work, installation, cleaning and maintenance can all be done while working from ropes. R3B has helped a number of customers in varying branches with gaining entry to very specific locations to do inspections by means of rope access. Due to the fact that almost all our available technicians are not only trained in rope access but also in

rope rescue, the R3B team can guarantee the highest safety grade and has a broad range of rope solutions to reach places, but also getting back out. The quality and safety of our work is guaranteed through our ISO 9000 quality management and VCA safety management system.

Emergency response teamsR3B has been internationally involved with accompanying, training and/or equipping numerous professional emergency response teams in industry or from the fire and rescue services. Most often these types of training consist of different components, varying from operational leadership in technical rescue to professional first aid, stabilisation and transport of casualties from difficult objects, locations or remote areas. Our trainings have taken place on board of platforms, in harbours and in remote areas in third world countries but can also take place in our own training and test facility in The Netherlands. For

organisations with the need of having an external rescue team on site, R3B provides these services with a fully equipped, dedicated and professional rescue team with experienced team members who have proven to be the best in their field according to a number of customers.

Safety solutionsSafety is not only a matter of having archives filled with procedures. It is the practical integration of rules and regulations in the work field during the day to day job. Therefore it is needed that employees see the benefits of work procedures and experience support when questions arise. Work procedures need to be helpful in providing a safe working environment and need to cover all aspects including emergency response. R3B provides solutions varying from setting up a ventilation plan to clear the air in offshore wind turbine basements to the full setup and training of rescue teams.

R3B Solutions provides an extensive range of safety servicesIncidents often start small but can easily become very big due to the high risk environments in the on- and offshore industry. This is why safety has a high priority. Unfortunately a lot of times the safety rules and regulations seem to be very generic or have a lack of emergency preparedness in specific areas, for example when entering confined spaces. A lot of times the main reason for this is the unfamiliarity of the practical details that do count in these sorts of circumstances. In this area R3B makes the difference with practical solutions and the integration of emergency procedures in the normal safety regulations. R3B has the knowledge and the experience to support organizations with their health and safety regulations and provide practical advice, training and facilities to work safer.

The self- lling oat is being used by two major operators in varied applications in the region, and the company has seen further signi cant interest in the tool on a worldwide basis.

Floats in the bottom hole assembly (BHA) play a critical role in protecting the rig from uncontrolled hydrocarbons in the formation, but running into hole (RIH) with a oat, or non-return valve (NRV), can be inconvenient because of a lack of exibility in deployment.

Churchill’s patent pending Self-Filling Float allows the operator to select the timing of oat activation. By using the oat rapid, surge-free RIH can be achieved before activation puts it into a fully protected mode, providing two high quality non-return barriers between the rig and the formation.

The tool, which is resistant to 350°C (660°F), allows the string to self- ll whilst RIH, saving 30%-50% on time spent tripping into hole compared to regular oats. Formation damage from RIH surge pressures can be avoided with the oat in the open position and full pumping capability is retained at all times

A steel dart is dropped whilst the nal few stands are RIH. A pressure cycle activates the oat and stores the dart in the core chamber. Optimised internal geometries and high durability surface nishes ensure pressure loss is minimal and the oat can handle any anticipated ow rate.

In the self- lling dormant mode, the oats remain open through use of retaining pins, allowing lling as the BHA is run in hole. Pumping is possible without risk of activating the tool, allowing shallow hole tests to be performed with no danger of the oats becoming

inadvertently activated. At the appropriate time, the dart is dropped into place. When the pumps are turned on pressure immediately rises as the dart presses down on the seat.

The oat assembly pins shear at close to 200 psi, releasing the retaining pins, and as the oats become active they immediately close.

The dart continues to experience increasing pressure until its sleeve pins shear, allowing it to fall towards the storage core, where it forms a low pro le centralised 'bullet' around which ow can pass freely past the oats and onto the bit.

Churchill Drilling Tools’ director Mike Churchill said: “The aim of a oat is to create an effective safety barrier for the rig within the drillpipe, and, while we all welcome anything that increases safety, traditional oats do have operational drawbacks.

They can require a top- lling intervention when they create a vacuum in the pipe, and they will also add to surge pressure on the formation. “The self- lling oat is an effective and practical solution. It enables operators to comply with safety requirements yet gives them the choice of when to activate.

It has been deployed this year by some of the leading names in the oil and gas industry with excellent feedback.

In addition to the time and formation protection savings, rig- oor feedback has also been very positive as eliminating top- lling has also removed spillage and created a cleaner and safer working environment whilst running in hole, so we expect more success for the tool in the future.”

“We are continuing to strengthen our oil business to meet the rising call on our oil production; in fact, we plan to invest $35 billion over the next ve years in crude oil exploration and development alone to keep our oil production portfolio robust,” Khalid al-Falih said in a speech posted on Aramco’s website.“We are also planning to

increase our conventional and unconventional gas supplies by almost 250% over the coming couple of decades,” he said.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, plans to greatly increase gas production to meet domestic energy demand and free up crude oil for export. However, the country hasn’t yet discovered non-

associated natural gas in suf cient quantities to replace oil as the fuel for its planned electricity plants and guarantee cheap feedstock for new petrochemical factories.

Saudi Aramco is fully owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world with activities in exploration,

production, re ning, distribution, shipping and marketing.

Mr. al-Falih said that the Arab world’s largest economy has many vast areas, which have still not been adequately assessed, and will be aggressively explored by Aramco.

The rm also hopes to diversify its energy portfolio and boost earnings from downstream activities by growing and integrating chemicals with its world-scale re ning operations.

“If we succeed with our strategy we will be spending at least $500 million each year on chemicals-related technology, and creating a very large company of around 20-30,000 employees with well-paid jobs,” Mr. al-Falih added.

Aramco has previously said it plans to increase its re ning capacity to 8 million barrels per day from 4.02 million barrels per day in the next decade through expansion both at home and abroad.

Churchill’s self lling oat provides barrier on demand

Saudi Aramco to Invest $35B in Oil Exploration, Development

An innovative self-fi lling fl oat from Churchill Drilling Tools, which provides an effective barrier on demand, reduces costly intervention and combats pressure surge is set to enhance global drilling practices following successful deployments in the North Sea.

State-owned oil giant Saudi Arabian Oil Co., known as Saudi Aramco, plans to invest $35 billion over the next fi ve years in crude oil exploration and development in a bid to keep its oil production portfolio robust, the fi rm’s chief executive said.

Houston-based Halliburton reported a pro t of $602 million, or 65 cents a share, down from $683 million, or 74 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding acquisition-related charges, litigation settlements and other items, adjusted earnings from continuing operations were 67 cents, in line with Wall Street expectations. Revenue increased 8.6% to $7.11 billion.Halliburton is the rst big oil-services company to report results for the third quarter, a period that saw many oil and gas production companies slowing down drilling activity in order to keep costs down and stick to 2012 budgets amid volatile energy prices. Weather-related disruptions such as Hurricane Isaac, which struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in August, also impacted oil- eld operations and Halliburton’s bottom line. Rivals Schlumberger Ltd. and Baker Hughes Inc. are set to report Friday.Analysts said the drop in net income did not come as a surprise--Halliburton and a handful of other services companies had indicated that revenues and margins would be lower than initially expected in the third quarter.“There was not a lot of sticker shock,” said Raymond James analyst Collin Gerry. The main question remaining is “how much further can North America go down as far as pro tability?”

Halliburton is the top seller of services for hydraulic fracturing in North America. Hydraulic fracturing, a process also known as fracking, consists of injecting a mix of water, chemicals and sand at high pressure into deeply buried oil- and gas-bearing shale rock formations to crack them open. But the company’s margins have been pressured lately amid higher fracking costs in oil-rich areas and declining demand for services in natural-gas elds.Chairman and Chief Executive David Lesar said Wednesday that Halliburton is “seeing activity reductions by some of our customers as they continue to moderate activity to operate within their stated 2012 budgets.”Mr. Lesar said the next few quarters could be “bumpy” in North America, but he expects activity to pick up again next year based on conversations with customers that have indicated they want to do more and run more rigs once new budgets are in place.Barclays analyst James West wrote in a note Wednesday that Halliburton’s North American results were “modestly” below expectations, but that the environment is likely “troughing.”“We expect North America to begin to rebound” as oil and gas companies reload their budgets for 2013, he wrote.Halliburton’s revenue of $7.1 billion was down 2% from the second quarter, driven by a 5% decline

in North American revenue. The company earns more than half its revenue in North America. In the mean time, Mr. Lesar said Halliburton won’t chase after low-priced work in order to keep crews busy or gain market share--a change in strategy for the company.“We believe these issues are transitory, and we do not want to take the risk of lowering the pricing baseline for a problem that we will expect to go away in a couple of quarters, or to have our customers believe that such pricing would be the new normal going forward,” he said.Halliburton’s international results were mixed, with revenue from international operations up 2% from the second quarter, driven by growth in Latin America and the Middle East that was partially offset by declines in Europe.Halliburton said it expects international margins to improve gradually as the company ramps up activity on new projects, increases prices on some contracts and improves results in new markets. In the completion and production business, revenue was up 6.7%. However, operating income dropped 45%, including a decline of 60% in its North American segment. In the drilling and evaluation business, revenue was up 12% and operating income was up 17%.

Halliburton Co.’s third-quarter earnings fell 12% as reduced drilling activity in North America and rising costs for materials used in hydraulic fracturing squeezed the oil-fi eld service provider’s profi ts.

Water from production to consumption

safe water on board

GeneralBacteriological outbreaks from the water can result in unnecessary commotion and sometimes even panic among the crew. In fact, there are known cases where a Legionella contamination lead to a complete shut-down of a rig. The consequences of bacteriological outbreaks on board are overwhelming and should not be underestimated. Part from the bacteriological quality, corrosion and other deposits can give color to the water, making it undesirable to consume. A typical measurement is to provide bottled water for human consumption and not to drink the water from the taps. However, this gives an extra strain on logistics and operational costs and does not prevent health risks from other contacts with the potable water on board.

Nowadays a wide range of water processing and treatment technologies is available to ensure safe and good quality (drinking) water on board. With a right selection of materials and installations to purify and condition the water it is possible to comply with the regulations and standards for water used suitable for consumption purposes. Combined with a proper water management plan, maintenance and control of the water quality from supply to tap points can be guaranteed.

Water intakePotable water on board can be obtained by bunkering or by desalination of sea water. When bunkering water, attention must be paid to the quality of the water which the supplier provides. Always take water samples and check the water on the basic parameters. Furthermore, all necessary steps to ensure safe potable water is bunkered must be described in a bunkering

procedure. For example flushing of the bunker hose prior to bunkering should be mentioned in this procedure. Desalination of sea water is possible by a Reverse Osmosis system (RO) or by an evaporator.

Both techniques will produce fresh water, but not all para-meters are within the guidelines for potable drinking water. Due to the desalination process, the produced water has a low pH and no hardness. The product water should therefore be treated in order to correct the pH value, to prevent corrosion in the distribution system and to give a better taste. This can be done by dosing of a mineral solution or by installing a mineralizing filter. In the first option the minerals are directly added to the water by a dosing pump. The most common used technique is a neutralizing or mineralizing filter: in the mineralizing filter the water flows through a filter bed containing mineral grains during which the minerals dissolve slowly in the water. When properly designed the post treatment should reduce the corrosiveness of the water and give it a better taste.

Storage & DistributionAfter bunkering or production the potable water must be stored and subsequently distributed to the tap points. The storage &

distribution system can and will affect the water quality. It is of utmost importance to make the proper choices when designing a water storage and distribution system. First of all, the capacity and material of the potable water tank is important. If the water tank is to big the residence time of the water will be to long and the quality can be affected. The capacity of the water system should be determined by the water use on board. In general it can be calculated that the water use on board will amount to approx. 200 liters per person per day.

From the tanks the water is pressurized by the hydrophore. This is formed by a system of pumps, hydrophore tanks and pipe work. The most common used tank is galvanized tank with air/water. However, these tanks are very vulnerable for corrosion and sediment and are often a source for water quality problems. Better would be to select a different material or a membrane tank, and preferably a flow through tank in order to prevent dead ends.

Again, often the main piping between the tanks and the accommodation is made of black or galvanized steel. Steel piping is economically attractive, but will corrode in the course of time. This corrosion causes rust water and is also a breeding ground for the growth of bacteria. Using steel of a higher quality, such as stainless steel, can prevent this.

Another option is copper, which has the advantage that it does not corrode, and has bacteriostatic properties (prevents the growth of bacteria). Another option is to use plastic piping. Plastic does not corrode and is easy to process. Modern plastics such as PE, PB and PVDF have overcome the known disadvantages which for example PVC had (less impact-resistant, formation of harmful fumes when burning).

Bacteriological qualityAs mentioned before in this article, drinking water can be obtained by bunkering or by on-board desalination. Normally, the water meets up to the norms for safe drinking water: A) when bunkered the water supply company has to follow strict rules on water quality, B) when produced on board, a proper design of the water treatment unit will determine that good water quality is produced. This leads to the fact that the physical/chemical

composition of the water will not be a problem on board. However, the bacteriological quality of the bunkered or desalinated water is of great importance. The bunkered or desalinated water, and also the biofilm in the piping system, contains bacteria and is vulnerable for decay. If no sufficient disinfection is used, bacteriological growth will occur. The quality of the water can be checked by analyses on total number of germs and indicator bacteria like coliform bacteria.

However, bottled water is sealed from the factory and has no pro-blems with bacteriological growth. So, it would seem that bottled water is safer to use on board. But what about other bacteria like Legionella, which are not obtained by consumption but by inhaling aerosols? Consumption of bottled water does not reduce this risk!

In water systems, the ‘Legio-nella bacterium’ has been a cause of great concern in recent years, and particularly if there are risk areas such as showers, whirlpools etc. on board. In combination with their reduced natural resistance, older people in particular are a high-risk group with regard to polluted water. Still, regardless this high risk group, everybody has a risk of getting this sickness, and therefore measurements must be taken to reduce the chance of the Legio-nella bacterium growing in the water and to guarantee the quality of the drinking water on board.

These measures can include the periodic maintenance of the drinking water system, such as the cleaning and maintenance of the tanks, appliances and pipe work. A preventive measurement is also the use of good disinfection techniques, such as Ultra Violet disinfection and the dosing of Sodium Hypochlorite.

DisinfectionUltra Violet radiation for disinfection purposes is applied in the drinking water system after the hydrophore unit. It UV is a very ‘clean’ technology because no chemicals are introduced in the system. The disinfection effect is caused by damaging the DNA/RNA of the bacteria so they cannot multiply anymore in the drinking water system.Regular disinfection of the water with Sodium Hypochlorite can provide good protection. Continuous dosing helps in the prevention of the growth of bacteria and algae in drinking water storage tanks and distribution systems.

Potable Water ManagementAs described, the rig’s drinking water system can be complex, consisting of several items such as tanks, piping, filters etc. A risk assessment of the complete drinking water system can determine whether the drinking water supply (from source through treatment to the point of consumption) as a whole can deliver water that meets the health-based targets. In undertaking an assessment of the rig’s drinking water system, a range of specific issues must be taken into consideration. As drinking water quality varies throughout the system, the assessment should aim to determine whether the final quality of water delivered to the consumer will routinely meet established health-based targets.Good water management in combination with education & communication are the key words to prevent problems and save costs on your rig and puts the control of water quality in your own hands. Water management is an ongoing process and if not carried out consequently it is possible that water on board can become a serious health risk.

Water supply on board: bottled water is not a guarantee against problems with water on board! There is an increasing awareness in the offshore industry that sufficient, safe and good potable water is an important factor for good health on board. Many offshore platforms use bottled water for human consumption to ensure good quality. But bottled water cannot be used for every purpose concerning people on board. What about showering during which contamination with the Legionella bacteria can occur by inhaling small water drops? Furthermore the logistics and costs for bottled water are very unfavor-able for operations. Wouldn’t it be less hazardous and more efficient to implement a good water safety plan to ensure good water quality on board?

Fabricom Oil, Gas & Power The Netherlands enables individuals to work in a safe, exciting, challenging and cross-border environment, and provides an excellent environment for career and personal development.

85% of participants said that the sector should increase its spending on health, safety and the environment (HSE), while only 15% said the industry was devoting enough fi nancial resources to this critical area of operations.

The Industry Snapshot Poll was conducted on the fi rst day of Gastech by global independent technical advisor to the oil and gas industry, GL Noble Denton. Senior professionals from across the industry also took part in the poll online. Martin Layfi eld, GL Noble Denton’s Vice President for Gas Consulting, said: “The golden age of gas is fi rmly upon the energy industry, and European governments are looking to the resource as a low-carbon, cost-

effective fuel to help meet CO2-reduction goals. It is critical that the growing credibility of the gas industry is not tarnished by avoidable safety incidents.“As demand for gas continues to rise, the industry is rapidly investing in the development of new production technologies such as fracking and fl oating LNG.

The result of this poll shows that industry professionals believe equal priority should be dedicated to improving the safety of Europe’s gas infrastructure.” GL Noble Denton’s Industry Snapshot Poll result comes at a time when Europe’s oil and gas industry safety standards have become a growing point of contention among sector professionals.

The European Commission announced controversial plans to create a blanket set of offshore safety regulations in October 2011, sparking opposition from British and Norwegian industry associations who claim that the programme will introduce lower safety standards than the current regulations in their respective countries.

This was the fi rst of three Industry Snapshot Polls to be conducted by GL Noble Denton at stand C86 during Gastech. Delegates will also be asked whether unconventional reserves will become the UK's primary source of gas and whether Asia's growing appetite for LNG will have a negative impact on Europe's security of supply.

Gas professionals call for greater spend on European safety standardsEnergy sector professionals have urged the European gas industry to increase investment in its safety practices, according to a poll conducted at the Gastech Exhibition and Conference in London.

A second of ce, at Den Helder Airport, was opened in July 1998, where we are acting as helicopter ground handler for several oil companies, but also take care of helicopter crew changes for our clients. During the years, we have proved to be a solid point of contact for our clients, given all their requests rst priority for smooth and quick turnarounds.

Our clients rely on our high service standards, which can only be achieved with employees who have major experience in the agency business and are highly engaged with our company.

Working for DHSS is also to breath support service, looking at the commitment our employees all have. We aim for our goals as a

team, as teamwork is one of the most demanding elements of our success.

Also safety wise, we are proud that in all these years, to have a zero accident history.

We may reckon all major players in the seismic industry to our clients. As their point of contact ashore, we have become part of the family and built up strong relationships through the years. Clients like PGS Geophysical, CGGVeritas, Fugro Geoteam, WesternGeco and Polarcus call upon our expertise for many years. Beside this, among others, also Heerema Marine Contractors, Seaway Heavy Lifting and Vroon Offshore are companies, relying on our services.

Den Helder Support Service a solid name in the industry as ships agency

In June 2012, Den Helder Support Service, received the AEO status, which is an important milestone, acting in our international business. This AEO Certi cate (Authorized Economic Operator) is issued by Tax Service and Customs to Companies that operate internationally. It regards us within the European Union as being safe and reliable, especially where Customs activities and warehouse procedures are concerned.

As an AEO certi ed company, Den Helder Support Service has an excellent relationship with suppliers, Customs & Immigration, local authorities, ensuring that our clients needs are given preference, wherever you go.

A d v e r t o r i a l

2012 is the fi fteenth anniversary of the company, which has been established 1st May 1997. During the long row, we have achieved some major steps which has brought us where we are now, says Wim Schouwenaar, founder and CEO of the company.

“I have been in the seismic Industry for more than 30 years  and have worked in many areas around the world, which presents many challenges. The seismic Industry is very demanding and requires  lot of logistical effort to be successful.

We  recently completed one of our most challenging surveys in the Netherlands  for a major client, which presented many challenges and it was very successful. Den Helder Support Service  was our agents throughout this survey which lasted over 6 months  and without the service they provided this survey would have  been even more challenging.

The attitude and professionalism shown by the  DHSS offi ce  in dealing with all the issues we threw at them was exemplary. “No matter what we asked of them they found answers and workarounds

even at very short notice and should be congratulated for a very strong professional approach to everything they were ask to do.

The  ‘backroom’ staff I haven’t mentioned also deserve our gratitude and thanks. I have never before experienced the politeness, safety focus and time conscious effort from an agency  company and it was also very welcome to see the focus put on customer satisfaction. Anyway its very rare I feel compelled to write something and it is very refreshing  to be able to highlight  all the positive comments DHSS truly deserve.

I'm certainly of the opinion we will be using Den Helder Support Service  again sometime in the future and would certainly  recommend them to any potential  customer ”, says Terry Milner, vessel manager at Fugro Geoteam.

North Sea Seismic Acquisition Program 2012 Geo Caspian and SeisquestFugro Geoteam seismic vessels Geo Caspian and Seisquest have just fi nished a seismic survey in the Dutch sector for Total E&P Nederland. Den Helder Support Service took care of all shore support during this survey on behalf of Fugro and ship owners, including all support vessels, involved in this project.

Since 1998 Den Helder Support Service has a location at Den Helder Airport, acting as helicopter ground handler as partner of CHC Helicopters, taking care of all freight to and from Offshore locations. Beside this co-operation also adhoc clients are taken care of with full crew change arrangements, from chartering helicopters to taxi transfers for on & off signing crew, hotels and Schengen visa arrangements. Being the freight handler on behalf of CHC Helicopters, gives Den Helder Support Service the advantage to act on the spot, without any delays. Oil company Gaz de France is one of the main clients as well as various other players in the Offshore Industry.

Den Helder Support Service signed a longterm contract with another helicopter operator, Noordzee Helicopter Vlaanderen (NHV) starting 1st January 2013, to take care of all Customs Freight handling issues for their clients.

The KNRM’s response time and service performance (average time to rescue location) are probably the highest of any SAR organisation around the globe, and at a relatively low cost. More improvements are on the way, however: the KNRM is proud to announce the next generation of fast all weather lifeboats: the NH 1816 Class.

On-scene Coordination Search & Rescue vessel. Working with a group of some of the best Dutch marine experts - TU Delft, TNO, Marin, Damen Shipyards and De Vries Lentsch Naval Architects - the KNRM has created the concept of an advanced ‘on-scene

coordination search and rescue vessel’. Principal innovations in hull design, ergonomics, communications and navigation systems, along with many other new features will give the NH 1816 Class far superior capabilities to any conventional lifeboat. Speed, range, ef ciency, seaworthiness and safety are all aspects that have been fundamentally improved in this design, not to mention signi cant upgrades in crew comfort and ease of maintenance. Vertical g-forces -45% The NH 1816 Class lifeboat – named after its sponsor, De Noordhollandsche 1816 - is a self-righting, fast, seaworthy monohull with aluminium hull,

composite wheelhouse and a modi ed Sea Axe Bow which cuts through waves, reducing vertical g-forces by 45% and enabling top speeds of over 30 knots, radically transforming seaworthiness. The Sea Axe was originally designed by prof. Lex Keuning (Delft University of Technology) and Damen Shipyards Group. Currently, the patented bow is used predominantly in Damen Fast Crew Suppliers, High Speed Support Vessels, Offshore Patrol Vessels and Fast Yacht Support vessels.

In addition to the Axe Bow, the NH 1816 is out tted with retractable rear ns that can be lowered for more course stability, or raised to give extra manoeuvrability. In the wheelhouse, state-of-the-art fully integrated electronics permit real-time data exchange for ship-to-shore communications (an earlier version of this system is already approved by the RNLI in the UK).

Crew working conditions have been considerably enhanced by not only limiting the “slamming” motion of the vessel, but also by a host of ergonomic features, such as specialised chairs, climate control, improved visibility and reduced vibration and noise levels.

The vessel’s dimensions are generous, giving extra space not only on deck, which can accommodate 125 people, but also in the engine room. This gives staff better access to machinery, improving maintenance conditions and effectiveness.

ExportConstruction of the rst NH 1816 Class vessel will start by the end of 2012, with the launch scheduled for the third quarter of 2013. Following sea trials, the KNRM will be offering NH 1816 Class lifeboats to other SAR and coastguard operations. They will be constructed by Damen Shipyards and its af liates.

The Next Generation Lifeboat: the 1816 ClassKNRM and Damen Shipyards sign contract for construction of revolutionary lifeboatThe Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution – KNRM – enjoys a reputation for excellence in maritime search and rescue. It operates in one of the world’s busiest locations, the North Sea, where over a thousand ships sail in any given 24 hours. To be able to cover all the emergency situations that arise within its area of operations, the KNRM has a dense coastal coverage of 44 lifeboat stations, all equipped with fast, all weather, self-righting lifeboats: one of the most modern and rugged fl eets anywhere. Now, the fl eet will be expanded with the NH 1816 Class.

As a result Canadian operators will be able to access local maintenance, training and demonstration services, for the FROG and TORO transfer units. It will also enable Re ex Marine to ensure a uniformly high standard of maintenance and safety for its products in the region.

The Newfoundland operation is the latest to be established by Re ex Marine, as part of an ongoing programme to set up Accredited Services Centres in many of the world’s key oil and gas regions. Centres have already been set up in Norway, Dubai, Singapore and Houston, with plans to extend to Brazil and the Caspian in the near future.

Re ex Marine’s business manager for North America Grant Wintle said: “Canada is an important region for Re ex Marine as clients

continue to set high standards in personnel transfer offshore and look for improvements in their operations. Due to seasonal fog, Canadian operators have long treated helicopter and marine with equal priority as both play a key role in maintaining offshore transfer capabilities.

The FROG can be used in more extreme situations and with challenging visibility, sea conditions and low temperatures all present off the East Coast of Canada, maintaining the integrity of units is crucial.”

Mr Wintle added: “It is important that we have a competent and knowledgeable partner in the

“In testing with our customers we have been able to demonstrate that our recently released AVEVA Electrical software can offer man-hour savings in design and engineering time,” said Bruce Douglas, Senior VP Marketing & Product Strategy, AVEVA. “We have had extremely positive feedback from people using the software on a daily basis and the results have exceeded our expectations.

The BVC enables engineers to see how and where the deployment of this latest generation software technology can greatly improve design ef ciency. It helps to quantify the potential bottom-line cost savings that AVEVA Electrical can realise for their business. “AVEVA Electrical has proved to be a key application within our engineering software,” said David Vernier, Africa Regional Director, Cegelec Cameroon.

“It is easy to con gure and quick to deploy with minimal downtime, allowing our designers and engineers to start work immediately. The database is intuitive to populate, enabling the quick production of deliverables. Overall it is easily navigable, allowing for ef cient data accuracy, leading to our achieving

man-hour savings of 30% on all of our electrical engineering design.”Based on actual working practices and feedback from users, the BVC illustrates the savings that a business could achieve on a typical project by implementing AVEVA Electrical.

Using simple parameters such as head count, hourly costs and the typical man-hours involved on a number of deliverables, the BVC enables users to input their own gures in order to calculate realistic time and cost savings

that could be achieved in design and engineering in their particular business.

The BVC highlights the major time and costs savings bene ts of AVEVA Electrical such as increased productivity, enhanced

project quality and improved materials usage. For a demonstration of the AVEVA Electrical BVC visit www.aveva.com/aveva_electrical, click on downloads and register your interest.

AVEVA Electrical uses the same systems approach as AVEVA Instrumentation. The applications can be used independently but even greater cost bene ts are realised when they are used in combination through improved inter-disciplinary coordination.

AVEVA launches new tool to illustrate electrical engineering cost savingsNew Business Value Calculator helps electrical engineers quantify potential project savingsAVEVA announced the launch of the AVEVA Electrical Business Value Calculator (BVC), an interactive tool that illustrates the savings that can be achieved by adopting its latest electrical engineering software technology.

GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz) is a French engineering company formed in 1994 by the merger of the two major players in the eld of LNG (Lique ed Natural Gas) membrane containment systems Gaztransport and S.N.Technigaz resulting in a cumulative experience of more than 80 years. GTT specializes in designing and licensing the construction of cryogenic LNG storage tanks for the shipbuilding industry.

In the coming years, a signi cant growth in the long distance transport of LNG is expected. The International Energy Agency

predicts that LNG trade will reach record heights, almost doubling between 2006 and 2015 to 393 billion cubic meters a year. Consequently, a considerable number of new build LNG carriers will come into the market. It is clear that the safe operation of these vessels will be imperative in order to provide safe conditions to the LNG tanks and to optimize the operational availability of the ships.

In the coming years, Amarcon and GTT will work together to develop and market tools and services that enable the operators of LNG

vessels with GTT containment systems to safely operate their ships by preventing sloshing.

The new system will collect data from operation processes in order to control and ne-tune the quality of the sloshing measurements and predictions. “For Amarcon, this agreement with GTT is a unique opportunity to work together with the leading designer of LNG tanks in order to provide their clients with a complete package to facilitate safe and ef cient LNG transportations,” said Leon Adegeest, General Manager of Amarcon.

GTT and Amarcon cooperate in sloshing prevention technologyAmarcon and GTT will develop technology that enhances the quality of sloshing measurement and prediction.Amarcon, a member of the ABB group, today announced it has signed an agreement with GTT (Gaztransport & Technigaz) on mutual development of forecasting and advice software system onboard LNG carriers. The deal was closed during the Gastech exhibition in London.

The demand for FPSO’s, Floating Production Storage and Of oading vessels is fast growing. These days we experience that even ‘normal’ on- shore installations in Nigeria are being replaces by oating production units, for safety reasons. The technology applied is growing mature now.Cars and airplanes nowadays are loaded with electronic systems for control, energy ef ciency, safety, navigation. Seagoing vessels, ships, still are equipped with no more than rather conventional electrotechnical installation.

Automation concepts rarely are taken into account during the engineeringphase in shipbuilding so far. Just like the case in the real estate market, for shipbuilding too, an automation revolution mainly seems to be driven by arguments of energy ef ciency and environmental requirements. More speci cally, the costs involved will be decisive. This year, FHI the

Netherlands Federation of Technology Associations started to build a new community of companies that are relevant for the creation of an automation revolution at sea. On the 8th of November the rst results of this initiative will become publicly visible. The First edition of the Marine & Offshore Automation Event will take place on that date. Obviously the former RDM shipyard in Rotterdam, now transferred into the RDM Campus, will be the venue.

Technologists form the Royal Navy, shipbuilding engineering companies, companies like SBM Offshore and Total E&P will give lectures on the challenges they experience. Automation experts from ABB, Emerson, Imtech, Cofely and other companies will be there to tell and show what the opportunities and possibilities are and will be in the future. The event is made up of two elements, an extensive conference programm and a productshow.

Automation at sea today’s challenge Industrial automation emerged form on-shore large scale production plants, refi neries and manufacturing. Since a number of years ‘skids’ are being built for off-shore platforms. The fast growing number of fl oating production units is a rather new phenomenon. The scale is larger than ever and the technology to be applied is much more advanced than before.

Shell’s Projects & Technology Director Matthias Bichsel commented:  “We are cutting 7.6 tonnes of steel for the Prelude oating lique ed natural gas facility today, but in total, more than 260,000 tonnes of steel will be fabricated and assembled for the facility.  That’s around ve times the amount of steel used to build the Sydney Harbour Bridge.  Today’s ceremony marks a major milestone in this project, when the innovative thinking and new technology and engineering solutions which will make FLNG possible begin to be realised.”

When completed, the Prelude FLNG facility will be 488 metres long and 74 metres wide, making it the largest offshore oating facility ever built.  When fully equipped and with its cargo tanks full, it will weigh more than 600,000 tonnes.  There will be over 3,000 kilometres of electrical and instrumentation cables on the FLNG facility, the distance from Barcelona to Moscow.

“Making FLNG a reality is no simple feat,” Matthias continued.  “Shell is uniquely positioned to make it a success given our commercial capability; our LNG, offshore, deepwater and marine technology; and our proven ability to successfully deliver megaprojects.”

In order to meet the world’s growing energy demand, bringing new supplies to market is critical. The Prelude FLNG facility will be deployed in Australian waters over 200 kilometres from the nearest

point on the coast.  It will produce gas at sea, turn it into lique ed natural gas and then transfer it directly to the ships that will transport it to customers.

An expert team from Shell will manage the multi-year construction of the FLNG facility to ensure the Prelude project’s critical dimensions of safety, quality, cost and schedule are delivered.  Strategic partners Technip and Samsung Heavy Industries (the Technip Samsung Consortium) along with SBM and hundreds of suppliers and contractors around the world are all contributing valuable knowledge, skills and equipment to help make the project a success.  At peak levels, around 5,000 people will be working on the construction of the FLNG facility in South Korea; and another 1,000 will build the turret mooring system, subsea and wells equipment in other locations across the globe.

In the lead up to the facility being ready to start production, a number of actions will take place, such as drilling the production wells, installation of subsea owlines and risers and mooring chains to prepare for the arrival of the FLNG facility.

Prelude FLNG is the latest in a line of Shell achievements in developing new technologies for the oil and gas industry, reinforcing its leadership in technology and innovation.  This is the rst of what Shell expects to be multiple Shell FLNG projects.

Major construction begins on the Prelude FLNG project - the world's biggest offshore oating facilityShell celebrated the cutting of fi rst steel for the game-changing Prelude fl oating liquefi ed natural gas (FLNG) facility’s substructure with joint venture participants, Inpex and KOGAS, and lead contractor, the Technip Samsung Consortium, at Samsung Heavy Industries’ Geoje shipyard in South Korea.

“Occasionally a project comes along that sticks in your memory as being truly exceptional”, says Michel Heerschop, project manager at Shipdock Harlingen. This comment refers to the contract awarded to Shipdock Harlingen by Sliedrecht-based dredging company De Boer for dry-dock work on the TSHD Amazone.

Shipdock Harlingen proved once again its unique capacities in ship repair and conversion. The Amazone, a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD), was scheduled for a special certi cation review this year and, additionally, there were many necessary maintenance jobs and modi cations to be carried out. There was no room for any delays

because the Amazone had to ful l a contract for dredging operations at Sluiskil in The Netherlands, after which it had to go directly to Dunkirk in France to attend another job.The main tasks of the initial order were: replacement of the lower hold steel plating, replacement of six bottom doors and twelve bottom door seals, replacement of parts of the tank top and renewal of the engine room bulkhead. Also the renewal of the diffuser and rock grid, and the replacement of the piping and wiring belonging to the three new installed generators were included.

Shipdock Harlingen displays its exibility to dredging company De Boer Focus on cooperation is the key to success!

It looked as if dry-dock work on the Amazone would be delayed due to several unforeseen problems. But in the end, with careful planning and a great team effort, the dredger was on time for its next job elsewhere in The Netherlands…

As the project progressed many additional jobs came to light - primarily general steelwork; these extra tasks are usually responsible for delays in the delivery date. It becomes increasingly vital to continually coordinate all tasks and their related planning in order to keep on schedule.  The biggest hurdle was revealed when it became clear that the Amazone’s crew were ordered to also make repairs, which included renewing dredging pipes behind steel plates that had to be replaced by Shipdock personnel. These plates had to be welded, in a closely orchestrated manner in order to allow for the work on the pipelines without safety risks and delays. It was essential that

the Shipdock and Amazone crews managed to work tightly together in order to get things done on time.Danny Mense of De Boer also praised the cooperation with Shipdock Harlingen: “We view our business as a 'people business' and stimulate professionalism, enthusiasm and humour amongst our staff to keep the work enjoyable. Shipdock Harlingen has the capabilities to cope with the unexpected, focus on cooperation and keep their promises. This attitude really connects our two companies.”

Damen and Wilson have enjoyed a business relationship for 20 years and the new vessels will be supplied to WSUT, a joint venture between Brazilian operator Wilson, Sons and the Chilean Ultratug group for long term charter to Petrobras. To date Wilson, Sons has built 16 Damen PSVs, all for their own eet.

Building locallyAs one of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries, Brazil is very much an expanding market and

particularly the offshore sector is demonstrating exceptionally strong growth. Local manufacturing is a key factor and the service through Damen Technical Cooperation (offering ships in kit form for completion locally) ensures the shipbuilder complies with the 60% local content threshold imposed by the government.

Wilson, Sons is the largest operator of harbour tugs in Brazil and already has a large eet of Damen vessels

comprising Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs and Platform Supply Vessels (PSV).

Main characteristicsThe 4500 DWT vessel has a LOA of 87 m, 16 m beam and maximum draught of 6.19 m, providing a large deck area amounting to 840 m2. A diesel electric propulsion system comprising four Caterpillar 3512C generator sets, each of 1,570 ekW at 1,800 rpm, power two Rolls-Royce azimuth thrusters of 2,500 kW.

Fixed pitch propellers of 2,800 mm diameter, with nozzle, deliver a speed of 13 knots (at 5 m draught). A Caterpillar C9 genset of 238 ekW at 1,800 rpm is for emergency use. Twin bow thrusters ensure good manoeuvrability and the vessel has a dynamic positioning DP2 classi cation. There is

accommodation for 14 crew and up to six passengers.

New range Currently Damen is engaged in the design of a new range of PSVs. Based on operational studies, feedback and questionnaires from crew and operators of the Damen PSV 3000, 4500 and other non-Damen PSVs operating in the area, analyses are made to re ne the speci cations of the new design. The new Damen PSV range will soon cover ve models, the 3300 (the number relates to the vessels’ deadweight), the smaller 1600 and 2500 and the larger 4000 and 5000, which are currently being designed. Together with Wilson, Sons Damen is developing several other vessel types for the Brazilian offshore market, such as Anchor Handlers, ROV Support Vessels and Well-stimulation Vessels.

Wilson, Sons delivers two Damen designed Platform Supply Vessels for Wilson Sons Ultratug OffshoreDamen Shipyards is further strengthening its involvement in the Brazilian offshore market with six Platform Supply Vessels, type PSV 4500, built under license by Wilson, Sons (Santos, Brazil) for Wilson Sons Ultratug Offshore (WSUT). Two vessels have been recently delivered; the other four will be delivered throughout 2013.

Four more vessels under construction

With the opening of a new branch of ce in Jakarta, Indonesia, TOS has further strengthened its position as a global provider in personnel solutions. "The Asian market is a growth market for us. For our customers, particularly in the Offshore and Oil & Gas industry, this new branch of ce is a welcome addition.

Through this new of ce TOS can also guarantee its quality for the Asian market itself, independent of local agents. The professionalism and the quality of the Indonesian seafarers is underestimated still." says Kees Wagenaar, Managing Director.

This year TOS celebrates its 20 year anniversary. Years characterised by organic growth, expansion of the package of services and the sectors in which TOS is active. In addition, TOS has worked on a steady growth and expansion towards a worldwide network of branch of ces.

TOS strengthens its position in Asia

What we doDesign and Engineering

Luyt has its own engineering department. This department has recently developed a series of winches based on rules and regulations of well known clas-sification bureaus, ISO standards and years of Luyt experience. Our design tools are care-fully selected and give us the insurance that our winches are designed for long-live and are trouble free.

The origin of a successful companyMachinefabriek Luyt B.V. was founded in 1960 by Jan Luijt. Due to the long delivery time of new build winches Jan Luijt started to produce winches himself. This became a success. Customers of all branches found their way to Luyt for winch systems for all sorts of applications.

The company went to a considerable growth which led to the introduction of the Luyt Group in 2003. The Luyt Group provides a full range of maritime products and Machinefabriek Luyt B.V. is now still one of its key members.

In the early years the first winches were build for the fishing industry. Due to the large demand for winches worldwide Machinefabriek Luyt began to design, develop and produce

winches for other industries. During the decades Machinefabriek Luyt designed and produced more than 750 winches for clients throughout the world.

Jan Luijt has led the organisation until 1998. Today the company is still an independent family owned company now led by his son in law Gert Jan Wiegman.

We are increasing our activity and are looking for competent employees within the following category:

Calgary, Alberta-based Celtic said Exxon Mobil's Canadian unit is offering C$24.50 a share for its outstanding shares, plus 0.5 of a share of a new company, representing a 35% premium to Celtic's closing price of C$18.12 in Toronto Tuesday.

Based on Celtic's outstanding 105.7 million shares, the offer has a cash value of about C$2.59 billion.

"This acquisition will add signi cant liquids-rich resources to our existing North American unconventional portfolio," Andrew Barry, president of Exxon Mobil Canada, said in a statement.Exxon Mobil's buy, which includes current production of 72 million cubic feet a day of natural gas and 4,000 barrels a day of crude,

condensate and natural gas liquids, comes at a time when foreign companies are looking to bolster their presence in resource-rich Canada.

The Celtic assets being acquired include 545,000 net acres in the liquids-rich Montney shale, 104,000 net acres in the Duvernay shale and additional acreage in other areas of Alberta. Celtic is focused on exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas resources primarily in west central Alberta.

The deal, which includes a C$90 million break-up fee payable under certain circumstances by Celtic, is subject to Celtic shareholder approval and approval by Canadian regulators.

ExxonMobil to Buy Canada’s Celtic ExplorationExxonMobil Corp. agreed to buy Canadian oil and gas producer Celtic Exploration Ltd. in a deal worth about 3.1 billion Canadian dollars ($3.14 billion), including debt. Under a newly-agreed worldwide

alliance, Heerema and Technip say they are combining their capabilities for the subsea ultra-deep sector and plan to bid together on major projects which are coming forward in the next few years.

“Ultra-deepwater projects are expected to be the fastest growing part of the subsea market over the next several years,” Technip declared today in a statement from its Paris headquarters, explaining the reasoning behind the alliance.

“For example, ultra-deepwater in eld pipelines are forecast to grow at a yearly pace more than 15% between 2012 and 2017,” Technip says.

The alliance will last for ve years and it will cover Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation based-projects in all

global subsea markets “...requiring substantial tensioning capability.”

Together the two companies will be pooling their offshore installations assets, including Heerema's high-tension J-Lay vessels, the Aegir - which is currently under construction - and the Balder, as well as the S-lay and Reel-lay assets of the two companies.

Issues faced by ultra-deep offshore contractors today include the increasing size and scope of projects, and their complexity, which in turn demands extensive suite of project management skills and a successful track record of project execution, Technip says.

Major technology investment is required to optimise eld design work, the French contract group says, to cater for high pressure and high temperature elds, and equipment is demanded

which can also cope with corrosive hydrocarbon ows. Also developing elds in deeper water means heavier pipe, and greater pipe-tensioning equipment and installation capabilities on specialised pipelay vessels.

“In this framework, we expect to participate actively in the growing number of major new subsea EPCI projects currently being tendered, whose offshore installation phases are generally in 2015 and beyond,” Technip states.

In a joint statement, Pieter Heerema and Technip's Thierry Pilenko declared: “Both companies have solid reputations and long-term relationships with common customers. Our track record on execution and culture of delivery are recognized by our clients Together, we will provide them with unrivalled capabilities for execution in harsh, ultra-deepwater environments, enabling them to bring these promising reservoirs into production.”

Heerema and Technip align for ultra-deep subseaTwo of Europe’s major offshore contractors Heerema and Technip are teaming up to tackle ultra-deepwater subsea projects around the world.

KORTE BERICHTEN

Voortgang ‘groene omzoming’ Oosterhorn

Light well intervention takes centre stage at icota event

The presentation will cover the planning, equipment selection and contingency measures in executing such a programme of work in the Schiehallion Field, West of Shetland using the Island Constructor light well intervention vessel in more than 500 metres water depth.

Fraser Finlay, BP senior well engineer will also share lessons learned and key operational aspects of the well programme which were undertaken. The lunch session will be held at The Marcliffe Hotel in Aberdeen

and will run from 11.45am to 2pm. It is the eighth in a series of events being held by ICoTA Europe this year, leading up to 18th SPE ICoTA European Well Intervention Conference, which will be held in Aberdeen on 14 and 15 November.

ICoTA Europe chairman Callum Munro, said: “Light well intervention into sub-sea wells using specialised vessels is an effective way of adding oil and gas production from an ever increasing well stock in the UKCS and Norway sectors. Service providers are also improving the down-hole

tool capabilities and functionality to meet this challenge, this case history is a prime example of such a service.

“ICoTA Europe’s lunch and learn events are well known for providing excellent opportunities for leaders in the eld to discuss and share best practices.

The industry’s use of light well intervention has dramatically increased in recent years and this will undoubtedly be a hot topic of discussion at this year’s event.

“Our events are fantastic networking opportunities, attracting some of the best minds in the European intervention and coiled tubing industry, and we welcome anyone with an interest in the topic to join us.”

The case of hydrate tractor milling from a light well intervention vessel will be the focus of this month’s lunch and learn session hosted by leading oil and gas industry body ICoTA European Chapter in Aberdeen on Tuesday, October 16.

During the annual congress of the Dutch Inland Port Association (Nederlandse Vereniging van Binnenhavens (NVB)) on the 5th of October, a letter of intent was signed by the Port of Amsterdam, Municipality of Bergen op Zoom, Municipality of Utrecht, the ports of Limburg and Zeeland Seaports.

These parties represented 15 ports that had made a commitment to reward Green Award certi ed inland navigation vessels. For the most ports the reward will be in a form of a discount on the port dues, but there are a number of ports that do not charge port

dues. These ports will implement a different approach to show their recognition. The new ports will join a group of incentive providers that has been supporting the Green Award certi cation of inland barges since the launch of the programme in 2011. These loyal supporters were put in the spotlight as well, and a special Green Award board was handed over to representatives of Groningen Seaports, Port of Moerdijk, the Municipality of Meppel and the Ports of Rotterdam, Dordrecht, Zwijndrecht and Papendrecht to show the foundation’s appreciation of their efforts.

Jan Fransen, managing director of the Green Award Foundation, expressed his satisfaction with the fact that more ports are joining the Green Award scheme: “Incentives for the environmental

performance of sea-going vessels and inland barges should not be underestimated today, they are extremely important to motivate ship owners and managers to make an extra step.”

Green Award for the inland shipping comes from the Green Award scheme established in 1994 in order to promote quality shipping amongst sea-going vessels. Currently 350 inland barges are certi ed, and 8 ports are providing a discount on the port dues to inland navigation vessels certi ed by the Green Award Foundation. There are also 6 banks that compensate a part of the certi cation costs to their clients that participate in the Green Award scheme. Starting 2013 the fteen abovementioned ports will join the ranks of the current Green Award incentive providers.

Inland ports for Green AwardThe number of ports that reward inland shipping barges holding a Green Award certifi cate will grow signifi cantly.
