Po Povaskej Bystrici, tradinej bate slovenskho endura, kde sa esdov konala tyrikrt a naposledy v roku 2005, prevzali tafetu Koice.

Koice, ako druh najvie mesto Slovenska, s zko spt so portom. Medzinrodn maratn mieru vKoiciach, ktor je po Bostone druhm najstarm na svete, i Majstrovstv sveta vadovom hokeji 2011 s vznamn portov podujatia, ktor len potvrdzuj, e port je zrove neoddelitenou sasou jeho ivota akultry. Po roku 2013, ke boli Koice Eurpskym hlavnm mestom kultry, mesto vpodobe Medzinrodnej esdovej motocyklovej sae dostva aliu prleitos ukza svoju dynamiku, vnimon atmosfru, krsu, atie schopnos prilka nvtevnkov nielen zo Slovenska, ale aj zo zahraniia. dear sporting friends,I am very pleased that the International Six-Day Enduro competition, one of the most prestigious motorcycling events in the world, is returning after a decade back to Slovakia. After Povask Bystrica, the traditional bastion of Slovakian enduro where the ISDE has been held four times, most recently in 2005, the baton has been taken over by Koice.

Koice, the second largest city in Slovakia, has strong sporting traditions. The annual Koice Peace Marathon, the worldssecond oldest marathon race after Boston, and the World Ice-hockey Championships 2011 are significant sporting events which confirm that sport is an inseparable part of the cityslife and culture. Following on from 2013, when Koice was European Capital of Culture, the city now has another opportunity in the form of the ISDE competition to show off its exceptional, dynamic atmosphere and its beauty, as well as its ability to attract visitors not just from Slovakia but from other countries too. Iam sure that the experienced team of organizers has prepared an event of the highest standard, and the spectators will be able to see close up and support with their presence the best enduro riders in the world.

Under the patronage of the International Motorcycling Federation, the capital of Eastern Slovakia is about to host the grand 90th edition of this popular competition of biking versatility. The riders have to complete separate stages in difficult, hilly forest terrain, which means that this sport is coming right back to the place where it was born nearly acentury ago. The demanding courses lead from the Hungarian borders as far as Jasov and Gelnica, and at Kojovsk hoa the riders reach the highest point on the race route. The concluding motocross event at Kechnec, not far from Koice, which is especially attractive for spectators, will bring this exacting event to asuperb close, not only for the fans and the riders themselves, but for the whole organizing team as well. The history of this enduro competition holds great memories for keen followers of motorcycle sport, especially the fifteen Czechoslovak triumphs in the principal category of the World Trophy. It would be tremendously pleasing if this grand 90th edition of the ISDE could produce some good results achieved by our Slovak team in particular. Iam sure our riders will be well prepared, just like their machines, and they will overcome all the obstacles awaiting them along the way. For the fans of Slovakian enduro it is surely good news that the team which will be striving for the World Trophy features tefan Svitko, one of our most successful riders in Rallye Dakar. He may well be the biggest attraction for Slovak fans of motorcycle sport coming to support the members of our national team.

Iwelcome all the participants in this 90th edition of ISDE here in Koice. Iwish them every sporting success, and Iam confident they will be glad to return to Slovakia again in the future.

As the oldest event in the FIM calendar the FIM International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) continues to hold a very special place in the wider motorcycle community, with the FIM and the many national federations who have supported this great competition over the last century or so, not to mention the riders and their teams plus the fans who continue to follow the event as it moves around the World

It is great to see the ISDE return to Slovakia, for afifth time in the long history of this event, during ayear when this inter-nations competition celebrates its 90th edition. The city of Koice, which is also known as the Metropolis of the East is sure to provide the perfect setting to mark this wonderful occasion with ahistory and heritage all of its own that was recognised by its appointment as the European capital of culture in 2013.

With almost five hundred riders representing no less than thirty-two countries having entered this yearsISDE, which was over subscribed well in advance of the event, it is clear to see that the competition remains an important and popular date on the calendar for Enduro riders of all abilities across the World. The sheer challenge of successfully completing the full six days remains areal test of rider and machine even in the modern era.

Each time Ivisited the ISDE, irrespective of the country in which it is hosted, Ican still feel that special spirit exists that was perhaps at the heart of the first edition of the competition, which was held in Carlisle, Great Britain back in 1913. Whilst much has changed over the last hundred years the original ethos of the ISDE lives on.

Today our female riders now join their male counterparts at the ISDE as the FIM continues with its FIM Women in Motorcycling campaign to actively promote more participants and increased awareness of this sector across all disciplines.

The FIM is also proud of its Ride Green campaign that promotes environmental awareness, sustainability and responsibility, which allows events such as the ISDE to operate in potentially sensitive areas.

Finally Iwould like to thank SC ENDURO Club and the Slovakian Motorcycle Federation for hosting this yearsevent, and give praise to the officials and volunteers who will assist in delivering the 90th edition of the ISDE. We are very pleased that in connection with the number 90, Koice is going down in the history of international sport and world class sporting events twice this year, once by holding the 90th edition of the Koice Peace Marathon, and again by organizing the 90th International Six-Day Enduro motorcycle competition.

We are all the more pleased that Koice has the chance to welcome more than 500 riders from over 30 countries to this competition. The city thus gets another great opportunity to present itself and its beautiful natural surroundings in the best light to the participants and guests coming from all over the world to this prestigious event.

It is ademanding event as well, but Iam sure that Koicesorganization of it will be top grade, and the city will be an excellent host for this, the fifth ISDE competition to be held in Slovakia. So far it has always taken place in and around Povask Bystrica, but this year for the first time the Enduro riders and spectators will get to know the hills and woods around our city and the nearby region.

We welcome this internationally popular, attractive spectator event also from the point of view of Koicessuccessful candidacy for the title of European City of Sport 2016. Thanks also to this important competition and to that prestigious title, Koice will make its permanent mark on the map of Europe and the world not only as aCapital of Culture, but also aCity of Sport.

Tradcia, ktor sa zaala vroku 1913 vanglickom Carlisle, preila brliv zmeny vo svete amylienka kadoronho stretvania sa priaznivcov enduro portu na najaej esdovej sai preila aj brliv zmeny voblasti vedy atechniky. Kde inde, ako vpodmienkach akho ternu pri hodinch extrmneho zaaenia sa d vyska nov technika, nov typy motocyklov? Ovetkom vak rozhoduje lovek vnaom prpade portovec, ale aj technik vjednej osobe. Ako prezident SMF chcem spomen aj slovenskch motocyklovch pretekrov, ktor sa taktie zapsali do dejn ISDE. Prvm, ete eskoslovenskm pretekrom, bol vroku 1929 Jn Chorovsk apo om nasledovala cel plejda eskoslovenskch avposlednch desaroiach aj slovenskch reprezentantov. dear sport friends and supporters of motorcycling sport, dear riders.

This is for the fifth time that we will be able to host the legendary International Six Days Enduro in Slovakia. In years 1977, 1982, 1991 and 2005 the venue of the ISDE was Povask Bystrica and this year it will have its first run in Koice.

After ten years we have the privilege again to prepare the jubilee event of this Olympics of Motorcycling. The tradition, which started in 1913 in Carlisle, England, lived through turbulent changes in the world. And the idea of the annual meeting of the enduro sport fans at the hardest six-day race lived also through changes in the field of science and technology. Where else, if not in the hard terrain conditions during hours of extreme strain, you could try out new technique, new types of motorcycles? However everything is adecision of aperson - in our case asportsman and technician in one. Hundreds of kilometres in the seat of amotorcycle, many times in bad weather conditions, are the hardest test of physical condition, willpower and of technical skills of the riders. Therefore, every rider who participated at any of the ISDEs deserves our admiration. This year, for the first time in Slovakia also female riders will compete for the WomensTrophy. We wish them also asuccessful event.

As the SMF president Iwould like to mention Slovak motorcycling riders, who went down in the history of the ISDE. The first one, aCzechoslovak rider, was Jn Chorovsk in 1929. After him there was whole panoply of Czechoslovak and in recent years also Slovak riders. Mainly period of the seventies and partly eighties was outstandingly successful for Czechoslovakia. The reason for this success was also thanks to the motorcycle brands Jawa, Z, Tatran and thanks to tyre brand Barum. We have to also mention legends like Maita, Fojtk, Mrzek, Chovank, underlk and many others, whose names are imprinted on the World Trophy and Silver Vase. For me personally, the ISDE is abig challenge. Even though Inever participated as arider, in years 1991 and 2005 Iwas the Clerk of the course, respectively the deputy Clerk of the course and therefore Iknow only too well how difficult it is to prepare such event. Now Ihave the honour to lead the Slovak motorcycling riders as well as the organizers in the preparation and also the running of the 90th ISDE. Iwould like to assure our guests from abroad, mainly riders, that we did maximum in our power so that they would feel good in Slovakia. Ibelieve that riders will leave full of the best sport experiences which they encountered while overcoming obstacles that are hidden in our beautiful Slovak nature and that they will not doubt the fair-play of the 90th ISDE.

Thanks to support from the members of our motorcycle club, the Slovakian Motorcycling Federation and all fans of Enduro biking and sport generally, Ican now welcome you here in Koice and the region of Eastern Slovakia for the 90th edition of the ISDE.

Im sure we are going to spend an unforgettable week together, full of exciting moments provided to us by Enduro bikers from all over the world, and that youll return home with the feeling that it was worth coming to Slovakia for another Enduro event. Never mind that after four editions of the ISDE at Povask Bystrica weve brought you all the way to Koice, the capital of Eastern Slovakia.

Successfully achieving our aimWhen we were approached about two years ago with the offer of taking part in organizing the Six-Day Enduro, we didnt think it over too long.

It was a challenge for us, and just like many others we took on this one with determination, but with a spot of awe as well. We have dealt with many significant international events in the past, and we have done our best to apply this experience to the ISDE project.

St. Elisabeth Cathedral / Hlavn Street

The most significant monument of the city and the biggest place of worship in Slovakia. It houses the fascinating altar of st. Elizabeth, a rare gothic daouble spiral staircase one of just five of its kind in Europe, the crypt of the leader of the biggest antihabsburg uprising, Francis II. Rkoczi. The place of cult of the blood of Jesus Christ, official pilgrimage site recognized by the Pope. Thanks to the fantastic view of the centre, climbing the 60-metre high northern tower is well worth the effort.

Synagogoue on Pukinova Street / Pukinova 3

The orthodox synagogue from the end of the 1930s is a specific combination of historical elements and touches of oriental architecture togethter with modern elements. The interior walls of the synagogue are inscribed in pencil with the comments of the Jews who were gathered there before being transported to the concentration camps.

Executioners Bastion and Rodosto / Hrniarska 7

The most stunning example of medieval Koice bulwark and the largest bastion in Slovakia is the Katova bata (Executioners Bastion), which protected one of the entrance points to the city. The grounds of the bastion are home to a copy of the Turkish exile home of the last leader of the anti-Habsburg uprising, Francis II Rkczi, which is named after the former name of his place of exile Rodoto, and which brings a touch of the orient to Koice.

Originally a swimming pool, this building has been considered one of the citys architectural landmarks of the 1950s. In the 1980s, the building was declared statically unstable and had to be closed. However, it has now been restored and given a new chance as an exhibition venue for contemporary art, hosting regular exhibitions as well as other cultural events.

THE EASTERNMOST GOTHIC CATHE-DRAL IN EUROPE The model for the cathedral was the St. Victor Cathedral in Xanten, a town on the Rhine River in Germany. In the course of centuries a number of legends have arisen around the St. Elisabeth Cathedral in Koice. Legend has it that the builders placed a hollow stone in an unknown location during construction. If this stone were to be removed, it would cause the entire church to collapse.

COLD GEYSER In the village of Herany near Koice is a geyser that is a rarity in Europe. The geyser automatically shoots to a height of 7 15 metres with a periodicity of 32 40 hours.

THE DEEPEST CANYON IN SLOVAKIA The monumentally beautiful karst canyon in the Slovak Karst National Park was formed by the Blatn stream. The Zdielska valley is more than 400 m deep and 3 km long, but in places the width between the rocky walls is actually very close at only 10 m. The edges of the canyon are surrounded by massive rock formations.

A SLOVAK TAJ MAHAL In Krsnohorsk Podhradie a mausoleum was built as a monument to great love. Count Dionz Andrssy had it built for his beloved wife Frantika a Vienna native whom he married despite her common origin.

LIKE SLOVAK EMMENTAL CHEESE full of holes over its entire area is The Slovak Karst National Park. It has also been recorded into the inter-national network of biosphere reservations in the scope of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme. Its area belongs among the largest karst regions in Central Europe. More than 1000 caves and chasms are known in the Slovak Karst.

MYSTERIOUS UNDERGROUND CAVES Gombaseck Cave is particularly known for the pres-ence of sintered fi laments. Ochtinsk aragonite cave represents a unique natural phenomenon attract- ing attention with its wealth and varied aragonite structures and the origin and development of its underground spaces. Domica is the most signifi cant and longest cave

in the Slovak Karst National Park. Krsnohorsk cave is located near the village of Krsnohorsk Dlh Lka. The methods of entry and the presentation are a rare caving experience.

THE HIGHEST TOWER IN SLOVAKIA The climb up the clock tower of the parish church 87 metres high is not only an adventure but is also a great experience. The view over the surroundings should not be missed. The clock is a remnant of the original Gothic tower. All seven of the faces are operated by a single clock machine, which also controls all of the bells.

THE MOST EXTENSIVE CASTLE COM-PLEX IN CENTRAL EUROPE Spi Castle, is the unique dominant feature of the Spi region. The preserved castle ruins spread over the top of a travertine hill. Leg- end says that on moonlit nights a young girl in a white dress and with long hair and a belt around her waist strolls along the castle walls. On the belt she has a bunch of keys, and woe to the girl to whom she throws a key, for she will become bewitched.

WALL PAINTINGS APPRECIATED BY THE WORLD The interior of the Roman-Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in ehra is decorated with sacred wall painting of excellent quality and colourfully illustrated subjects. The rarest monuments in the church are the wall paint-ings creating a linked iconographic cycle.

THE SPI JERUSALEM OR PLACE OF PRAYER In Spisk Kapitula and in the locality named Paica ex-perts have discovered a unique conception of territory, model of Jerusalem in the landscape in a 1:1 ratio. It is made up of sacred buildings and pathside chapels, and each of them symbolizes a certain building connected with the suff ering of Jesus Christ in Jerusalem.

THE SLOVAK PARADISE NATIONAL PARK The Slovak Paradise National Park is undoubtedly one of the most prominent and most beautiful areas in Slovakia. Generally known for its beauty, its many hiking paths, bridges, foot boards and ladders, it annually draws visitors to conquer the otherwise unconquerable segments of its romantic corners.

A GRANDIOSE ROCKY GALLERY The overlook Tomovsk vhad in the National Park Slovak Paradise, surrounded by pic- turesque pines is easily the parks most visited viewing point. This fascinating limestone cliff of some 200 metres in length hangs out over the River Hornd in some places at a height of 146 metres above the river.

THE WINE OF KINGS THE KING OF WINES Thus said French King Louis XIV. about Tokaj wine. The aromatic wine of golden tint, made in the Tokaj region, is unique in that there is no alternative version of it. In short, it is original.

MYSTERIOUS CELLARS IN AGTOV HJ Mal Hore wine cellars are the largest complex of cellars in the regions. Here, in one small place, 80 entrances have been hewn into the tufa limestone and these are divided into still more corridors.

WINE FROM A VOLCANO Excellent soil and climatic conditions with a high number of sunny days, and last but not least the hand of man, are to be credited for the unique Tibava wine region. Pre- dominately white-wine grapes supplement the plantings of the unique Gewrztraminer grape. Orechov region is a bit smaller. Its vineyards today pre-serve the original clone of the Grner Veltliner grape.

THE LAKE BENEATH THE VOLCANO MOUNTAINS Zemplnska rava is in fact a reservoir which is supposed to serve for fl ood protection. It was built in places where there was once a German, military airport for the Luftwaff e serving during the Second World War. The site is among the warmest areas of Slovakia. The sun shines here on average up to 2200 hours per year, which is practically ideal for resting near the water.

Koncom 70. azaiatkom 80. rokov minulho storoia sa enduro zKoc na ist as vytratilo. Jeho nvrat sa oniekoko rokov spjal sklubom, ktor fungoval pod nzvom Moto centrum Koice aktor potom vroku 1987 zorganizoval Majstrovstv Slovenska Enduro za asti 35 jazdcov. Po niekokonsobnom organizovan nrodnch majstrovstiev SFR aSR usporiadal tento klub vroku 1996 vKoiciach Majstrovstv sveta so tartom vlokalite Anika. Nsledne vrokoch 2006 a2007 to boli op majstrovstv sveta, tentokrt vnealekch vKrompachoch. To u klub pracoval pod novm nzvom SC Enduro. Do Krompch sa enduro pod taktovkou tohto klubu vrtilo aj vroku 2012, ke tu bolo usporiadan finle Majstrovstiev Eurpy.

THE HiSTOry OF ENdurO iN KOiCE

Enduro riding has been done in and around Koice since the 1960s.

There used to be two clubs doing dirt-biking (the common name for motocross and enduro racing): erven Hviezda Koice (Red Star, the police force club) and AMK TRIAL Ininierske Stavby Koice (alarge construction company club). The ISDE event at pindlerv Mlyn (Czech Republic) in 1972 featured five riders from Koice in the club competition. In 1976 Koice hosted the European Enduro Championships (the World Championships were set up later), with racing over the same tracks as for ISDE 2015. For awhile in the late 70s and early 80s there was no enduro racing in Koice, but it reappeared in the late 80s thanks to the new club Moto centrum Koice. The Slovakian Enduro Championships were held here in 1987, with 35 riders taking part. After several years of organizing the national championships of the CzechoSlovak Federal Republic and then the Slovak Republic, in 1996 the same club organized the World Championships (with the start in Anika Park). They put on the World Championships again in 2006 and 2007, but in the nearby town of Krompachy. By then the club was already operating under new name, the SC Enduro Klub, and in 2012 this club organized the finals of the European Championships at Krompachy.

The best enduro riders in Koice in recent years have been Patrik Molnr (in the 1990s) and then Robo Kapajk, junior champion of Europe in 2008 and several times ISDE participant. Also in 2008 Robo together with tefan Svitko and Radko Matoka won the club competition at the ISDE in Greece. Rbert Kapajk still features in the latest generation of riders, which now also includes Jaroslav Postredn and Michal Kok, who are trying for nomination to the Junior Team Trophy Slovakia squad.
