MEETINGS

Monthly meetings are held at 7.30 pm on the first Friday of each month at the clubrooms, corner of Docker and Morgan Streets, Wagga Wagga. All members, guests and visitors are welcome.

CLUB EVENTS

Club events are held on various days during the year. Please check the "Coming Events" section of this newsletter for details. For vehicles on “Club Plates”, a copy of the club magazine with the ‘Events calendar’ showing the sanctioned events must be in the member’s vehicle when on these specific events.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS

The Club's Statement of Objects is as follows:

For the association of persons interested in Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Post Classic motor vehicles.

To encourage the restoration, preservation, use and display of these vehicles and associated literature, films, photographs, tape recordings and video tapes.

To demonstrate the capabilities of these vehicles by engaging in competitions including economy trials, regularity runs, observation events, motorkhanas, concourse competitions and vehicle rallies.

To encourage goodwill, friendship, and communication between members of this Club, and between members of this Club and all other persons, clubs and associations having like Objectives



MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING 1st NOVEMBER – 2019

Held at the Clubrooms, Docker & Morgan Sts. Wagga Wagga Meeting opened by President A. Taylor at 7.30pm PRESENT : 27 APOLOGIES: 11 VISITOR: 2 A minutes silence was held in memory of Julie Rockliff PREVIOUS MINUTES It was moved by C. Billingham 2nd J. Clay that the minutes from the Monthly Meeting held on the4th Oct 2019 and as read at the Nov Meeting be accepted. Carried BUSINESS ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES Nil CORRESPONDENCE IN *2 x Emails re membership *Email re use of grounds for a rally *Letter from RMS re Log Book *Enquiry from Holy Trinity School re vehicle display. Date to be confirmed *Application for membership from Peter Jope CORRESPONDENCE OUT *Emails to both parties re membership * Phone calls and emails re use of club grounds BUSINESS FROM CORRESPONDENCE Nil TREASURERS REPORT B. Hanson moved that the report as tabled be accepted 2nd S. Kelly Carried COMMITTEE REPORT Janelle read out the minutes from this. EVENTS :Stuart reported on coming events.

CLUB GROUNDS: The sprinklers have been turned back on REGISTRATION: 58 Vehicles were inspected, with 3 been rejected and 6 getting pink slips. Gerald thanked everyone for their help and patience on the day. GENERAL SMA REPORT: This meeting was attended by 6 members. Meetings are been held between RMS, SMA & CHMC to produce a new log book. RELOCATION SUB_COMMITTEE Stuart gave a report on their last meeting. Council will hold a public meeting before the end of the year. Ben from Council will attend our December Meeting to answer questions and talk to members. Stuart went through the list of needs and wants of the club that he has collected from members. These were discussed and edited with the members at the meeting. They will be presented to council so that a draft building design can be created. Leading Light: Colleen asked if voting for this could be opened up to all members not just those who attend the Christmas Party. Maybe get people not attending to email their votes to someone. Janelle will get the Leading Light Trophy updated. If you would like to vote and you are not attending the Christmas party, you can cast your vote with Ian Holgate before the 27th November either by phone or email. We have had a kind offer of a bus to take us to the Christmas party. It was voted that members would like to drive their cars. Thanks for the offer Phil.

Dear Members

I just need to thank the members of the Wagga Wagga Veteran and Vintage Motor Club for their wishes, kind thoughts, condolences and Flowers on the passing of Julie.

Julie was a special Lady who will be missed by me and everyone that knew her.

The Guard of Honour that the club participated in at the Cathedral on Wednesday was simply stunning and is still being talked about by everyone that witnessed the event. Julie would have just loved the send-off that she deserved.

It makes me very proud to be a member of such a wonderful Club.

WHO OWNS WHO? CAR COMPANIES AND THEIR PARENT BRANDS PART 1 This family tree has lots of branches Remembering which brands fall under each automakers' umbrella can be very confusing, especially when a company has divisions that are exclusive to specific parts of the world. Plus, occasional shakeups can cause companies to change hands. For example, Vauxhall and Opel were British- and European-focused brands owned by General Motors for decades. However, PSA Group acquired them for $2.3 billion in March 2017. This acquisition means these brands now fall under the same corporate umbrella as French brands Peugeot and Citroën.

BMW Group Engine producer Rapp Motorenwerke became the Bayerische Motoren Werke in 1917. It then merged with aircraft company Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke in 1922. They transitioned supplying engines to building complete motorcycles in 1923, while car production started in 1928. The BMW Group keeps its structure fairly simple. It owns: BMW; Mini; Rolls-Royce; BMW Motorrad, motorcycle brand

Daimler AG *AG is an abbreviation of Aktiengesellschaft, which is a German term for a public limited company. Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) was founded in 1899. In 1926, it merged with Benz & Cie. to become Daimler-Benz AG. The better-known Mercedes brand name dates back to 1900. Daimler dealer, Emil Jellinek, raced the company's models under the name Mercedes, in reference to his daughter's name. Competition success led to Mercedes appearing on the radiators of Daimler road cars in 1902.



Daimler AG has its headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. The company has quite a complicated corporate structure. Daimler owns: Mercedes-Benz; Smart; Mercedes-Benz Trucks; Freightliner; Fuso; Western Star; Bharatbenz from India; Mercedes-Benz Vans; Mercedes-Benz Buses; Setra; Thomas Built

FCA Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

(FCA) designs, engineers, manufactures and sells vehicles and related parts, services and production systems worldwide. The Group operates 102 manufacturing facilities and 46 R&D centers; and it sells through dealers and distributors in more than 135 countries. FCA’s automotive brands include Abarth; Alfa Romeo; Chrysler; Dodge; Fiat; Fiat Professional; Jeep; Lancia; Ram, Maserati. The Group’s businesses also include Mopar (automotive parts and service), Comau (production systems) and Teksid (iron and castings). *Ferrari also has a relationship with FCA under this umbrella. Financially, it’s a completely separate entity. The Angelli/Elkann family, which controls roughly a third of FCA stock, also has a significant holding in Ferrari.

Ford Motor Company Henry Ford co-founded the Ford Motor Company with investors in 1903, and the business created a true "people's car" in 1908 with the introduction of the Model T. It built around 15 million of them through 1927. Ford has its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. While it once controlled brands like Aston Martin and Volvo, Ford Motor Company's current structure is rather simple. It controls: Ford; Lincoln

General Motors William C. Durant, the owner of Buick at the time, founded General Motors as a holding company for automotive brands in 1908. Soon after, it acquired other automakers like Oldsmobile and Cadillac.



General Motors has its headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. Once the owner of many well known U.S. brands, the company's bankruptcy in 2009 resulted in the closing of brands like Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, and Hummer. General Motors now controls: Autobaojun, a car maker in China; Buick; Cadillac; Chevrolet; GMC; Holden for the Australian market; Jiefang, China-based commercial vehicle company; Wuling, an automaker in China

Honda Motor Company Sochiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa founded the Honda Motor Company in 1948 and began selling its first motorcycle in 1949; prior to that the firm built clip-on engines for attaching to bicycles. The company entered the auto business with the tiny T360 truck in August 1963 and S500 sports car a couple months later in October. The business has its headquarters in the Minato ward of Tokyo, Japan. The Honda Motor Company controls: Honda; Acura

Honda Powersports, which comprises the company's motorcycle, ATVs, watercraft, and other forms of transport.

Hyundai Motor Company Hyundai started as a construction company in 1947 but expanded quickly and entered the auto business in 1967. The firm initially built a version of the Ford Cortina under license and introduced its own car, the Pony in 1976.

Kia started in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, a firm specializing in making bicycle parts. The company's name became Kia in 1952, and it entered the auto market in 1962 by building the K-360 under license. It was a small, three-wheeled Mazda truck. Kia went bankrupt in 1997 and merged with Hyundai in 1998. The Hyundai Motor Company owns: Hyundai; Kia; Genesis

Opel PSA PSA Group formed in 1976 with the merger of Peugeot and Citroên. Originally known as PSA Peugeot Citroën, the company changed its name to PSA Group in 2016. In March 2017, the firm also acquired Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors for $2.3 billion. The company has its headquarters in Rueil-Malmaison, France, a suburb of Paris. PSA Group controls: Peugeot; Citroën; DS; Opel; Vauxhall

MISS WAGGA WAGGA 2020

Thanks to the nine club members that provided vehicles for the Miss Wagga parade on Saturday, especially considering members had to fight through a dust storm followed by rain. Cars all covered in mud by the end of the day.

Hopefully the club will receive some exposure via the Miss Wagga webpage or Facebook page. Speaking with one of the organisers she indicated that next year if agreeable with the club members, they would consider doing some flexible magnetic signs promoting the event that we could attach to our vehicles.

Again thanks to all involved on the day with community events like this, especially those run by the council, as it promotes our commitment and support of the community while we negotiate with them for new club facilities.

“LEADING LIGHT” VOTING Once again, the Club Christmas Party will include voting for the member seen as the “Leading Light” over the past 12 months. “Leading Light” is not necessarily a person who has done a lot of work or attended many events. In the spirit of Bill Hanrahan who donated the Leading Light Trophy (see article) more a member who promotes the club, assists others and offers goodwill to all.
