careful organization from FLORA RIBERA and her colleagues. We are indebted to Migliore+Servetto Architects and its staff for their hard work, the international brands of design for their trust, all the dealers involved for their support, Mark Zhang from DUHUB for his devotion, the famous website TMALL for supporting design exchange, Copyright Protection Center of China for emphasizing copyright protection. Of course we still have to thank Ms. Kelly Li and her colleagues as well as volunteers from Taiwan, whose hard work has won us valuable trust from the industry. As a team, we know that the fair just serves as a window of space and time temporarily, which represents the interaction and close relation between Chinese market and International latest trend. Therefore, neither our work nor the business opportunities are limited to these five days and 5000 square meters coverage.

Beijing has not been favored for furniture exhibition since there are few enterprises from the manufacturing industry or traditional industry. However, the city is undoubtedly a spot where the latest trend is interpreted and high-end logistics service is gathered. It is believed that Beijing Design Fair will provide Beijing a brand new event which serves as a business platform of trust and opportunity.

TOPIC: PREFACE

Thanks to your support, the first Beijing Design Fair is opening. It is a result of the half-a-year-long cooperation between Beijing Design Week, State International Cultural Trade Center and RCS MediaGroup from Italy, as well as our thinking, communication and implementation in the field in the past ten years. We are much pleased yet at the same time feel uneasy to present you with this exhibition, which is exquisite though does not boast a super big scale. While preparing this exhibition, we are questioned by many people “what is a design product?” As FRANCESCO ZURLO from the design School in Polytechnic University of Milan told me five years ago, design products are objects or services that convey ideas. Some of the ideas are demonstrated at the very beginning of the design process, such as the concern for eco friendly and organic reusing and recycling; some are embodied in the

manufacturing procedure, such as the color pattern, layout and package; still others are presented in the experience of consuming, such as gifting and “community” construction. The second question that has haunted us is, “where are those design products?” As a matter of fact many consumers already gave their answers: design products are simply everywhere and every part of our life, be it related to clothes, food, living, transportation or daily articles of use.We have to appreciate lots of people for the fact that the exhibition can be held as planned. Firstly, our sincere thanks goes to State International Cultural Trade Center and Beijing Customs Office for their support. We are now exploring how to make use of the opening up and tariff-free policies so that exhibitors can benefit from it in the short run as well as in the long run. Our thanks also goes to RCS MediaGroup and Rizzoli Beijing, especially the

主题: 前言 因为你的支持,第一届北京国际设计品交易会总算开幕了!第一届BDF,是北京国际设计周与国家对外文化贸易基地以及意大利RCS集团长达半年合作的成果,也是我们长达十年来,对设计交易思考、交流、实践的成果,能在这里和你分享这不大但精致的展览,我们满心喜悦也忐忑不安。在我们筹备这个展览的过程中,很多人问我们,什么是设计品?意大利米兰理工大学设计研究院的FRANCESCO ZURLO早在五年前就告诉我设计品就是那些有想法的产品与服务。这些想法会表现在设计的源头:比如关注环保、有机再生;这些想法会表现在制造的过程:比如关注权益、互动定制;这些想法会表现在成品的结果:比如材料色彩、造型包装;这些想法会表现在消费的体验:比如礼品馈赠、“社区”建设等。我们遇到的第二个问题就是,设计品在哪里呢?这一点,很多消费者都回答了我们的问题,设计品无处不在,它围绕我们的日常生活的衣、食、住、行、用。 展览能如期举行,我们要感谢很多人,当然首先要感谢国家对外文化贸易基地和北京海关的大力支持,我们正在探讨如何充分利用开放保税及政策平台,集合政策优势,让展商短期长期都受益。我们也要感谢RCS集团,卓意北京、特别是FLORA RIBERA和她的同事们无微不至的组织工作、感谢米格廖锐 +瑟维托 建筑事务所所

Today attention towards China is increasingly growing; however Italian companies successfully operating in this market are still very few. With a population of over 1.3 billion people and GDP growing by 9% annually, China is witnessing the rise of a new layer of population made of young graduates and managers seeking new lifestyles. This social evolution creates a growing demand for high quality and design products and therefore new business opportunities for leading brands and the Made in Italy, which traditionally embodies such values in the mindset of Chinese people.In China a major difficulty is finding the proper interpretation for the various forms of communication. The translation into Chinese of the word “brand” merges the concept of identity, positioning in the market, trade value and taste. It is such a rich combination of values and meanings, to be unthinkable even for the professionals of

communication; it’s an array of themes and shades on our products and for our public, a foundation on which to build the value of the brand. The mere name of the brand conveys taste and feeling of belonging, identity and presence on the market all together. This is the starting point of a project that RCS MediaGroup is excited to embark upon. This project offers the Italian market of design the opportunity to reach a strategic country for the development of business by means of an event focused on the system of interior design. A system of brands, each representing quality, aesthetic research and life style in its unique way. Brands will be presented into a scenario of suggestions and stories to tell. Brands will participate in this event together and presented to the Chinese public as a stronger and united entity, supported by the first Italian publishing group.

当今世界对中国的关注持续升温,然而在中国市场成功运作的意大利公司还是少之又少。中国人口多达13亿,每年保持9%的GDP增长,国内已逐渐呈现一组新消费群体,大多是年轻的毕业生或白领经理,喜欢寻找独特新颖的生活方式。这一社会变迁使得对高质量设计产品的需求不断增长,从而为著名品牌乃至意大利制造商品带来绝佳商机,这些品牌和商品,正是中国人心中质量和品味的标志。中国面临的主要困难是找到适应多种沟通方式的正确解读。“Brand”翻译成汉语中的“品牌”一词,这多少蕴含着特性的识别、在市场的定位、价值以及品味等含义。其背后的理念与含义之丰富,甚至专业媒体从业员也无法想象。同时这也为公众展现了一系列产品主题,并在此基础上,建构品牌理念价值。单是品牌名字本身,就体现了独到的品味和归属感,与此同时,还显示出商品在市场中的识别性和存在度。这就是RCS集团热切开展这一系列活动的初衷。项目本身为意大利市场提供机会,接触一个战略性发展国家,通过专注室内设计行业的展览活动,不断推动产业的发展和创造商机。该项目带来的一系列品牌,每一个都代表着卓越品质,审美诉求和独特的生活方式。品牌的呈现会通过连续的场景和故事讲述的形式来进行,各大品牌将共同参与这一活动,并凭借着一流意大利出版集团的支持,以一个强大的作品集合体展现给中国的观众。 RCS 传媒集团

位 于 北 京 东 北 部 的 大 山 子 是 一 处 颇 富 盛 名 的 设 计 艺 术 区 域 , 其 中 位 于751D·PARK北京时尚设计广场内的七九罐则是一座非常有特色的前工业建筑:它是一个巨型金属容器,粗糙的材质无一处不细述时光的流逝,就像理查·色勒的艺术作品的放大版。缘于近年来已经在此地举办了多个活动,我们对这块土地从不陌生。而每一次活动都促使我们与这充满潜能的土地再次建立了更深的关系。2012北京国际设计品交易会是一个为各方提供发声的平台:有针对意大利品牌展商之间的交流;有以讲述和探索方式联结的展览;还有在展场中心广场每天的精彩讲演和表演,以上的精彩内容无不促进意大利设计在不同层面的推广。在一个互联网络的时代,交易会是一个最合适不过的“有形”机遇和平台,让我们创造一个氛围,让产品本身、品牌内涵和产品用途等方面,与人们当下和未来的生活联结的更紧密。出于上述原因,我们选择了这么一个具有强烈工业色彩的场地,在这里展览区域是紧密地联结起来的,使观赏具有独特的流畅性与戏剧性。整个会场区域是以几个同心圆组成的,内容环环相扣,并以环形走廊分隔,使参观者沉浸在时刻变幻的神奇视觉体验中。

It’s a place of knowledge and in-depth analysis, thought for a mature Chinese public more and more interested in the themes of design.

In Dashanzi, an area on the North-East of Beijing, within an artistic district, the Gasometer Tank in 751 is an incredibile ex-industrial space: a huge metal vessel, where time has marked the material as in a big scale work by Richard Serra. By now we know this place quite well since in the latest years we have designed here a few events and every time we have created a different relationship with the potentials of this place. For BDF the objective was to create a strongly articulated set in order to communicate the Italian design project at different levels: the exhibition level of the companies, the narrative and explorative level of the exhibit, and the dynamic one of the meeting area.In the internet era the meaning of a trade-fair becomes the right and “tangible” occasion to create a context for the product related to other productions, the history and the role of the project

in general, strictly connected to the current debate and the future perspectives. For this reason we have chosen a strongly dialectic plant, where the passage through the different areas would not be separated, but fluid and dynamic continually connecting one area to the other. We have created a plan made up of concentric rings, that allows continuous and at the same time mutable paths, with constantly developing dynamic visual perspectives. At the centre we have put the “events square”, the collective meeting place for events and presentations, all around it there’s the exhibit “Design Time”, the narration about Italian design marked along the different moments of the day and on the outer circle we find all the exhibition spaces of some of the most important Italian design companies.

研究显示要在中国推广品牌,是需要一些耐性和资源的。简单地认为只要是世界知名品牌就能轻易打入中国市场并做得风生水起,那可就大错特错了。成功品牌营销值得借鉴的做法有:改变商品适应新市场、训练工作人员、选择最合适的分销渠道和在适当的媒体上进行产品推广。最好还能够“翻译”出产品背后隐含的“故事”。举个例子说,选择本地名人明星做代言人,就是最为直接的使产品“内涵意义”全球化的方法,研究显示这一过程最少需要3到5年时间。如果品牌推广意味着建立关系并创建互信,那么,时间因素就相当关键。在中国,速成的品牌推广是不可能成功的。严肃对待中国市场意味着合理分配时间,增进对这一古老文明的理解,从而改善加强市场运作。

在中国做品牌:意大利制造的机遇

“在中国做品牌”是由北京国际设计周和意大利RCS传媒集团(中国)提供赞助,Francesco Zurlo(来自米兰理工大学)展开的一项研究。2008年,这项研究在通过分析中国人对品牌尤其是家居品牌的可视性和信任度,揭示了意大利制造的商品进入中国市场后机遇的前景。在四年后重新收集了相关数据,研究发现得出的结果与四年前截然不同。随着人们对意大利生活方式的兴趣渐浓,对意大利品牌的关注也日益增加。当说到优雅和品味,中国的精英阶层往往对意大利的卓越工艺予以极高认可,同时也愿意为品牌买单,从而彰显其尊贵的身份和地位。但是时至今天,意大利家居品牌在中国的经营依然乏善可陈,这又是为什么呢?答案显而易见:许多品牌仍然不认为中国是一个成熟的市场。另外,也不是每一家都进行品牌推广。然而,研究的成果显现了一个更为成熟的市场:中国消费者会为了品牌特殊的含义或久远历史而选择特定的商品。这就是品牌推广的核心,这就代表…中国消费者懂得商品质量(通常是因为他们游历丰富),明白其“陈述性”内涵,要求更多服务,也对环境、安全性和健康等问题更为敏感。中国消费者每六个月就买新产品,对整体外观也相当重视。

BRANDING FOR CHINA. THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MADE IN ITALYBranding for China is a research carried out by Francesco Zurlo (Polytechnic University of Milan) and sponsored by Beijing Design Week and RCS China. The research investigating the opportunities of Made in Italy in China follows a 2008 work dedicated to the degree of visibility and trust that Chinese have towards brands, in particular regarding furniture.Today, four years after such research, the picture looks different. Interest toward Italian life style has risen, as did attention to our brands. Chinese elites acknowledge Italian mastery and supremacy when it comes to elegance and taste and they are willing to spend and buy our brands for the symbol and status they represent. However today, in absolute terms, our furniture brands are not doing great business. Why so?

The answer is easy: many still do not see it as a mature market. Moreover, not everybody implements branding policies.Yet, the result of the research shows a (more) mature market: consumers choose goods for their “meaning” and for they have a certain history. That is the core of any branding activity, one would claim…Chinese customers realize the quality of products (often because they have travelled abroad), understand their “narrative” implications, require more services, are more sensitive toward issues like the environment, safety and health. Chinese customers await new products every six months and place great importance on total look solutions.

The research has highlighted that some patience is needed to promote a brand in China. And resources,

too. Thinking that a worldwide renowned brand may enjoy a easier life in China is wrong. Good practice of successful brands has come from adapting products, training the workforce, choosing the most suitable distribution channels and promoting products on the right media. It is desirable to “translate” the “stories” lying behind the products. For instance, endorsement by a local celebrity is the most straightforward way to glocalize the “meaning” of a product - on a time span of at least 3 to 5 years.

If branding means building a relationship and creating trust, then the time factor becomes crucial. Rushing and success are not coexisting concepts in China. Taking China seriously implies allocating the right amount of time to understand and operate in the cradle of a millenary culture.

In 2012 the turnover of online shopping will exceed 600 billion RMB. Under this background, 2012 Beijng Design Week – Beijing Design Fair E-commerce commences while the exhibition preparation is going successfully. The site will be located at bdf.duhub.com, covering functions such as online exhibition, product sales, online reservation, SNS interactive, review and dimensional code interactive. BDF E-commerce site offers visitors the opportunity to view the exhibition and buy great design products anytime anywhere, even without leaving their homes. 师北京国际设计品交易会中心展区的展览主题是“设计时光”,它是继2011年在罗马和都灵展览取得重大成功后,在中国进行巡回展出的第一站。“相约设计”力图通过与人们展开对话,讨论设计,最终成为公司、设计师和消费者之间的桥梁和纽带,从而向大众推广文化理念、相关项目、创造力和现代设计使其增值。“相约设计”展览是的首次国际性的盛事,在全球范围内推广意大利设计起着重要的作用,何况近年来中国一直对意大利出口的产品有着浓厚兴趣。“设计时间” 以一天的六个重要时间点为序,诠释出人们日常生活场景。在中国插画师的精心设计下,意大利标志性设计产品将按六个生活场景出现。“相约设计的参观者可以通过近距离感受由设计品组成的场景,从而经历一次时间和生命的旅程。展览旨在与周围的展商展示的作品进行积极的对话 。”

Meeting design.Coffee cups, restaurant chairs, airport lights, lounge sofas often are objects of design. Everybody uses them, lives with them, yet does not necessarily “meet” with them. This show aims to narrate, represent, and make people fall in love with Italian design. Beautiful and useful objects originate from lucky encounters. In Italy, there is a place whose existence rotates around the idea of meeting: the square. It is one of the countries in the world with the highest number of squares: majestic, monumental, and imposing, places of memories, but also places of exchanges and business, centre of everyday’s city life. Squares are the memory-identity of the Italian people. Meet Design Show is a show of images, dances, and words that “puts design out in the square,” and takes the objects and people who have created them travelling: Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, Piazza del Campo in Siena, Vigevano’s Piazza Ducale, Piazza dei Mercanti in Milan, Piazza San Marco in Venice, Piazza Navona in Rome…The travellers, two Chinese actors, portray the meetings and disputes among the protagonists of the Italian industry: designers, entrepreneurs, artisans.In the meantime, buildings, cathedrals, and fountains bear witness of the creative genius. Statues, frescoes, and bas-reliefs transform the theatre in a place filled with stories.The audience is in the square too, at the centre of Beijing Design Fair, immersed in an Italian landscape: architecture, objects, people and stories, to share the encounter between Italy and China with the two actors.

演员介绍

石洋,演员,翻译,文化交流使者,出生于中国济南。与Cristina Pezzoli、Letizia Russo共同在普拉托市策划了中意文化交流项目Compost。曾为威尼斯电影节进行同声传译。与Angela Finocchiaro,Aldo,Giovanni,Giacomo出演电影,并参演了Silvio Soldini的最新影片。曾为导演Gianni Amelio,Giuseppe Tornatore担任助理。曾在上海为音乐大师帕瓦罗蒂担任翻译,并曾在米兰为到访的习近平副主席担任翻译。是Mediaset集团Le Iene节目邀请的第一位非意大利籍主持人。为意大利-中国合作计划(PROGETTO ITALIA-CINA)出演剧目《近郊的天使》,并在纽约、罗马和普拉托进行表演。

邝彦婷,出生于香港,毕业于香港表演艺术学院。之后在四川舞蹈学院学习,是新加坡奥德赛舞蹈剧院专职芭蕾舞演员。成立S.O.S(Space of Olivia’s Style)舞蹈公司。为意大利-中国合作计划(PROGETTO ITALIA-CINA)出演剧目《近郊的天使》,并在纽约、罗马和普拉托进行表演。

The Cast

Yang Shi, actor, translator, and cultural mediator, was born in Jinan. He curates the Sino- Italian Compost in Prato with Cristina Pezzoli and Letizia Russo, and is an interpreter at the Venice Film Festival. He has acted in films featuring Angela Finocchiaro, comedians Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo, and in the latest work by Silvio Soldini. He has worked as director assistant with Gianni Amelio and Giuseppe Tornatore. He translated for Pavarotti in Shanghai and for Xi Jinping in Milan. He has been the first non-Italian correspondent for the TV show Le Iene.He acted in the film An angel in the suburbs in New York, Rome, and Prato, for the Project Italia-Cina.Olivia Kwong was born in Hong Kong, where she graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts. She completed her studies at the Sichun Dance Academy. She is a main ballerina at the Odyssey Dance Theatre in Singapore and founder of S.O.S (Space of Olivia’s Style) Dance Company.She acted in the film An angel in the suburbs in New York, Rome, and Prato, for the Project Italia-Cina.

n相约媒体大师是米兰市商会在2006年推出的项目,其中包括一系列利用先进的数字科技手段展现的活动和研讨会。在2012北京国际设计周米兰主宾城市项目中,相约媒体大师将在北京米兰两地同时呈现一场别开生面的活动,借此让北京的观众感受到米兰设计生态系统的丰富多样性,及其在设计创意方面发展的新趋势。在北京国际设计品交易会现场,活动将带来以展现米兰当代的设计场景及其相关背景为主旨的讲演和音频视频。米兰三年展设计博物馆的现场表演,将以互联网连线方式同步展现在北京的观众眼前,使人们在认识新锐设计师和设计大师的同时,对设计领域的未来发展有所了解。活动将同时使用汉语和意大利语,并在微博上直播。无论是在米兰、北京现场或在网上远程观看的观众,都能够参与其中,畅谈感受,发表评论。相约媒体大师活动将会创造一个模拟现实环境,在虚拟和现实空间不断转换,从而以特别的方式来讨论创意的话题。这次活动的嘉宾邀请工作是由斯蒂法诺·伯埃里(知名建筑师、米兰设计周主席、2012北京国际设计周米兰主宾城市代表团团长)和玛利亚·格拉切·马帝耶(相约媒体大师项目监制)共同完成。嘉宾包括米兰新锐设计师、意大利在设计领域的资深人士以及中国设计师和专家。

Meet the Media Guru is a project of the Chamber of Commerce of Milan, it was launched in 2006 as a series of events and conferences on digital innovation. In occasion of Beijing Design Week 2012, within the framework of Milan Guest City programme, MTMG presents a unique event taking place simultaneously in two different locations - to display the richness of Milan design ecosystem and its emerging trends in creativity. The Gasometer tank in 751 D∙PARK in Beijing stages keynote speeches and audio-visual material to convey the current design scene in Milan and the background in which it’s rooted. Live contributions from Triennale Design Museum in Milan, where new and established talents are gathered, shed light on “what’s next”. All the event will be live streamed in Italian and in Chinese and the conversation will be expanded in the blogosphere. The publics attending the event in Milan and in Beijing - as well as those following the event remotely - will be able to join in, to chat and make comments. The event creates an immersive environment expanded in the virtual and physical space to open a vibrant debate over the paths of creativity. Stefano Boeri – distinguished architect and Municipal Councilor for Culture, Fashion and Design of the City of Milan- together with Maria Grazia Mattei - director of Meet the Media Guru project- will coordinate several guests, emerging talents working in Milan, established protagonists of the Italian know-how as well as Chinese designers and experts.
