Subject: Clear Conflict of Interest
Dear Chainnan, Nuclear Regulatory Commission Diaz:
I am very concerned to learn that the Nuclear Energy Institute has hired the private security finnWackenhut to conduct "force-on-force" security drills at nuclear power plants. With Wackenhutproviding security officers at nearly half of all the nuclear plant sites in the U.S., thisarrangement is a clear conflict of interest.
I do not understand why the Nuclear Regulatory Commnission would allow this kind of contractto go forward, especially given the numerous, documented security problems at Wackenhut-guarded nuclear plants and U.S. nuclear weapons facilities over the past several years. I amespecially puzzled given the fact that Wackenhut already has been caught cheating on securitydrills at a nuclear facility and received low marks on a force on force drill at a nuclear plant.
I ain also very concerned about your agency's decision to "blacken" the results of security tests atU.S. nuclear plants. Given the security problems that have been publicly reported at nuclearfacilities since September 11, 2001, there already are public concerns over whether or not youragency and the private utilities that own these plants have done everything necessary to ensurethe security of these plants and the safety of the Americans who live in the areas surrounding theplants. Preventing the public from knowing the results of these tests now that Wackenhut will betesting itself at these plants, makes nuclear security even less accountable to the Americanpeople.
I strongly urge you to immediately reconsider your policy to blacken nuclear security test resultsand urge the NEI to cancel its force-on-force contract with Wackenhut, so there can be no doubtthat our nation is doing everything we can to keep nuclear plants safe.
Sincerely,
jacob Lyons

I am very concerned to learn that the Nuclear Energy Institutehas hired the private security firm Wackenhut to conduct "force-on-force" security drills at nuclear power plants. WithWackenhut providing security officers at nearly half of all thenuclear plant sites in the U.S., this arrangement is a clearconflict of interest.
I do not understand why the Nuclear Regulatory Commission wouldallow this kind of contract to go forward, especially given thenumerous, documented security problems at Wackenhut-guardednuclear plants and U.S. nuclear weapons facilities over the pastseveral years. I am especially puzzled given the fact thatWackenhut already has been caught cheating on security drills ata nuclear facility and received low marks on a force on forcedrill at a nuclear plant.
I am also very concerned about your agency' s decision to"blacken" the results of security tests at U.S. nuclear plants.Given the security problems that have been publicly reported atnuclear facilities since September 11, 2001, there already arepublic concerns over whether or not your agency and the privateutilities that own these plants have done everything necessaryto ensure the security of these plants and the safety of theAmericans who live in the areas surrounding the plants.Preventing the public from knowing the results of these testsnow that Wackenhut will be testing itself at these plants, makesnuclear security even less accountable to the American people.
I strongly urge you to immediately reconsider your policy toblacken nuclear security test results and urge the NEI to cancelits force-on-force contract with Wackenhut, so there can be nodoubt that our nation is doing everything we can to keep nuclearplants safe.

Dear Chairman, Nuclear Regulatory Commission Diaz:
I am very concerned to learn that the Nuclear Energy Institute has hired the privatesecurity firm Wackenhut to conduct "force-on-force" security drills at nuclear powerplants. With Wackenhut providing security officers at nearly half of all the nuclear plantsites in the U.S., this arrangement is a clear conflict of interest.
I do not understand why the Nuclear Regulatory Commission would allow this kind ofcontract to go forward, especially given the numerous, documented security problems atWackenhut-guarded nuclear plants and U.S. nuclear weapons facilities over the pastseveral years. I am especially puzzled given the fact that Wackenhut already has beencaught cheating on security drills at a nuclear facility and received low marks on a forceon force drill at a nuclear plant.
I am also very concerned about your agency's decision to "blacken" the results ofsecurity tests at U.S. nuclear plants. Given the security problems that have beenpublicly reported at nuclear facilities since September 11, 2001, there already are publicconcerns over whether or not your agency and the private utilities that own these plantshave -done everything necessary to ensure the security of these plants and the safety ofthe Americans who live in the areas surrounding the plants. Preventing the public fromknowing the results of these tests now that Wackenhut will be testing itself at theseplants, makes nuclear security even less accountable to the American people.
I strongly urge you to immediately reconsider your policy to blacken nuclear security testresults and urge the NEI to cancel its force-on-force contract with Wackenhut, so therecan be no doubt that our nation is doing everything we can to keep nuclear plants safe.
Sincerely,
Kathy Anderson
