Message from Myrtle Ending Violence in the Home

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Although substantial progress has been made to reduce domestic violence,

one in four women and one in seven men in the United States still suffer serious physical violence at the hands of a family member or

intimate partner at least once during their lifetime. Every day, three women lose their lives in this country as a result of domestic violence. Millions of Americans live in daily, silent fear

within their own homes.

Ending violence in the home requires vigilance and dedication from every sector of our

society. My goal is to increase public safety in the Fourth Council District by promoting peace in our own families and homes and by teaching men, youth, women--

everyone within our communities--how to recognize domestic violence and know where to seek help and support to speak openly about it.

I’m taking this opportunity to highlight a resource that we have locally—the San Diego Family Justice Center (FJC), located in downtown San Diego at 1122 Broadway, Suite

200. It is a public safety initiative launched by the City of San Diego to assist victims of family violence.

The FJC is the first comprehensive "one-stop shop" in the nation for victims of family violence and their children. Under one roof, dozens of agencies collaborate to provide consolidated

and coordinated legal, social, and health services to women, men, children, and families in need. Victims of family violence can now come to one location to talk to an advocate, get a

restraining order, plan for their safety, talk to a police officer, meet with a prosecutor, receive

medical assistance, and receive information on shelter. Every day, those impacted by family violence, child abuse, and elder abuse, find safety, protection from their abuser, legal help,

counseling, food, clothing, spiritual support, medical assistance, and so many other free services from the Center's professionals and volunteers.

I am committed to providing victims and their children the help they need to break the cycle

of family violence that so often damages and destroys families. If you know someone whom

you think is being abused--a friend, family member, co-worker, client, patient or parishioner--please contact the San Diego Family Justice Center's toll-free Information Line at

1-866-933-HOPE (4673). If you are in immediate danger, please call 911 or the San Diego Domestic Violence Hotline at (888) DV-LINKS (385-4657).

Important CIP Quick FactsImportant CIP Quick Facts

What is the CIP? The Capital Improvements Program (CIP) is the long-range plan for all individual

capital improvement projects.

The Fourth District’s CIP is designed to enhance our overall quality of life. These

projects improve our infrastructure including the streets we drive on, water we drink, libraries we visit, and parks we take our kids to play.

Water and Sewer Projects & Impacts

Of the twenty-three (23) projects in construction right now, there are over fifteen

(15) active water and sewer projects in our district. These infrastructure projects have temporary impacts to the street, parking, traffic, and water pressure. Once

a water and sewer project is completed, a slurry seal is applied to the street. The slurry seal both protects the surface of the street and improves its appearance
