OFFENZELLIGE SCHAUMKERAMIK
Das Fraunhofer IKTS entwickelt und fertigt
seit 1994 Schaumkeramiken nach einem
Replika-Verfahren. Dafür werden offenzel-
lige Polyurethan-Schaumstoffe mit kerami-
schen Suspensionen beschichtet, sodass
deren gleichmäßige zelluläre Struktur abge-
bildet und erhalten bleibt. Anschließend
wird das Polymer ausgebrannt und die
Keramik gesintert. Es entsteht eine zelluläre
Keramik, deren Materialanteil im Volumen
durchschnittlich 10 bis 15 % beträgt und
somit eine sehr geringe Dichte besitzt.
Die Struktur der Schäume wird über Pores
per Inch (ppi) gemäß ASTM-Norm D3576-
77 angegeben.
Durch eine beanspruchungsgerechte Kera-
mikauswahl können zusätzlich folgende
Eigenschaften eingestellt werden:
Eigenschaft Werkstoff
Hohe Festigkeit SiSiC
Hohe Temperatur- und
Thermoschockbeständig-
keit
SSiC
Niedrige Wärmedehnung Cordierit
Hohe chemische Reinheit Al2O3

OPEN-CELLED CERAMIC FOAM
Ceramic foams have been developed by
Fraunhofer IKTS since 1994 using a replica
method. Therefore, open-celled, reticulated
polyurethane foams are coated with ce-
ramic slurries, with the aim to maintain
their cellular structure. In the next step,
the polymer foam is burned out and the
ceramic coating is sintered. As a result,
cellular ceramics with very low densities are
created. The typical material content can
be specified with 10 to 15 percent ceramic
per volume.
Following the ASTM-standard D3576-77,
the foam structure is classified by Pores per
Inch (ppi). The PU-foams are produced in a
range of 10 to 90 ppi.
Depending on the ceramic material used,
the foams show a number of properties,
which can be adapted by variations in the
material:
Property Material
High strength SiSiC
High temperature and
thermo-shock resistance
SSiC
Low thermal expansion Cordierite
High chemical purity Al2O3
