Ensuring Your Child’s School Is Safe
Every teacher, coach, and volunteer who works with children in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee’s parishes and schools
must have a background check before he or she is permitted to work in any school- or parish-related job or activity that involves contact with children. But what about the children who attend non-Catholic private or public schools? Talk with school administrators and find out what steps they take to protect children from harm. Suggest that they review other abuse prevention programs to ensure that their policies and practices are up to date. And demand that all employees and volunteers who work in the school be properly screened, including background checks, before they are allowed to be near your children.
Marytown Altar and Rosary Society will be holding their Annual Spring Meeting. On May 8, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Church gathering room. Discussion on changing By-Laws, dispersal of kitchen items, election of Officers, and church cleaning dates. Please come and help make a difference.

HolyLand Catholic Parishes 6 fourth Sunday of Easter
From the Desk of our DRE, Karen Abler
This past weekend we heard the beautiful story of how the disciples recognized Jesus in the breaking open of the Scriptures and in the breaking of bread on the road to Emmaus. How do we recognize and witness to Jesus in our family, our friends, our neighbors? We just celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation with our 21 candidates who through works of service, study, prayer, and time spent on retreat were challenged to answer that question. Thank you to their parents, to our Confirmation Catechists Sr. Julia Ann Krahl, CSA and Ms. Patricia Tyunaitis who have been sharing their faith and helping these candidates grow in theirs. Congratulation to all our Confirmation candidates.
Here in the Holyland we have 27 children who have been preparing and deepening their relationship with Jesus in preparation for receiving their First Communion. One can hear the excitement in the voices of some of the children who are counting down the days to their First Communion. Do you remember your First Communion? What you wore? Have you ever looked back at the pictures taken, reminisced with family about the parties, have you shared these memories with your children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews? And more importantly do you remember how you felt? The Eucharist reminds us
that God is with us and that he will always be there to take care of us. The children have been learning that they can have a powerful encounter with Jesus each Sunday at Mass. In the next couple of weeks, we will be welcoming our 2nd graders to the Eucharistic table for the first time. I would like to thank their parents, our Religious Education catechists Mrs. Celia Zimmerman and Mr. Robert Pauly, and our Holyland Catholic School Gr. 2 teacher Ms. Katie Westphal for sharing their faith with the children and for all the work they had done in preparing the children for this day. First Communion days are:
Sunday, April 29th at 10:30 am at St. John the Baptist Saturday, May 5th at 4:30 pm at Holy Cross Sunday, May 6th at 8:30 am at St. Mary’s
Congratulations to these children and may this day be the “first” of many communions as they continue their faith journey as members of the Body of Christ.
Karen Abler
The Family of Bernice Diederichs would like to thank all of you
for your thoughts and prayers. Bernice is in a good place now
and will always be in our hearts.
We would especially like to thank the staff at the Villa Loretta
for the compassionate care that they extended to our mother and
our family.
We are truly blessed to have had her in their care.
Thank You,
The Family of Bernice Diederichs
A thief came awhile back and slowly took our mom away. He didn't do it all at once, but by tiny pieces every day. At
first we hardly noticed, and sometimes even smiled. “Oh she’s just getting older” we told ourselves, our long suite
was denial. Then as we realized the truth, and tried so hard
to cope with anger and frustration, hers and ours, we found there was no hope. She’d try so hard to form a thought and
tell us what she meant. But the thief would steal her words
away, and leave her sad and spent. The haunted look for what once was– the searching, asking, pacing. The thief
had all the cards in hand, with time against mom racing. Mom tried the best with what she had and Lord knows we,
too, but the thief then overtook and stole each bit of her we
knew. But now the hard battle’s done, and Mom’s resting in her final Home; God made the thief give back to us the
mother we had known. Now never more will she have to try to speak– and feel like crying. God will comfort, hear
and understand, without Mom even trying.
