The Youth Essay Competition was organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society and has been held for well over 100 years, without a break. by Cyril Wimalasurendre KANDY - There is no politics involved in the arrest of General (Retd) Sarath Fonseka by the Army. Sarath Fonseka is held under the existing laws of the coun- try, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama disclosed to media personnel in Kandy yes- terday (15). Minister Bogollagama respond- ed to media personnel after having an audience with the Mahanayake Theros of Malwatte and Asgiriya. Minister Bogollagama further dis- closed that he had enlightened all foreign leaders the circum- stances that led to the arrest of Gen. Sarath Fonseka. “I have educated all heads of states the cir- cumstances that led the to the arrest of the for- mer Army Commander. I have said that there was no political motivation or any motive of revenge in the arrest, Bogollagama said. Fonseka was dealt within the provi- sions under Army regulations. However, Fonseka has already enjoyed his liberty and rights under the law of the country by petitioning his case to the Supreme Court against Human Rights violation,” the Minister said. He said that every citizen was equal under the existing law of the country and that the laws of the country were equal to those of any developed country in the world. Sarath Fonseka has the freedom to prove his innocence and be free. There was no political pressure against him. President Mahinda Rajapaksa was aware that Fonseka was contesting against him. But President Rajapaksa did not raise any objections, the Minister added. The Minister accompanied by his wife and Provincial Council member Mahinda Kuruwita, Mayoress of Kotte MC, Swarna Silva and several others called on the prelates. The Kurayashi Rotary Club of Japan and the Kandy Rotary Club had a close rela- tionship since 1993. The other members of the Japanese delega- tion were: Rev. KANDY - There is no politics involvedin the arrest of General (Retd) SarathFonseka by the Army.
