Welcome

TEAM /tem/: A group of people with different skills and different tasks, who work together on a common project, service, or GOAL, with a meshing of functions and mutual support.

No matter what TEAM you play for, this industry can’t be suc-cessful with just one part of us. Patients, doctors, assistants, laboratory owners, technicians, office personal, delivery drivers...it truly takes a TEAM to make it all happen. The TEAM combi-nation is what makes the patients’ experience special, unique, and successful. The dental technology field is no exception. One laboratory may produce full and partial dentures, while another concentrates on crown and bridge. You may use CAD/CAM, your industry peer may not. Though we are all in the business of dental technology and have similar productions, our common objective, service, or GOAL is the same: We all want to function better with those we do business with and we all want what’s best for the patient, so the idea is that we all are on the same TEAM and try-ing to reach the same GOAL is not only the theme for our annual meeting this year but a true statement to how life really is. Learn-ing from the perspective of others can help you gain a perspective as to what others may value important to a process. TEAM train-ing costs companies thousands of dollars annually and those that value the process know the ROI they receive annually. There’s no need to hire a firm or take a week long boot camp, at the ECDL meeting this year you will find all you need to help achieve your ONE TEAM. ONE GOAL. We are very excited about our key-note speakers, as well as the technology courses. Whether you are an dentist, hygienist, dental assistant, entry-level technician, advanced ceramist, CAD/CAM operator, removable technician, laboratory manager, office staff, or delivery driver we are all on the same TEAM & we are talking about it all. Look through the program guide, and find your own winning TEAM combination at Eastern Conference!

The Eastern Conference of Dental Laboratories is the second largest dental technology meeting in the Southeast. The North Carolina and South Carolina Dental Laboratory Associations have put together a tremendous program once again. We can’t wait to see you in Concord, NC!

The high strength of these materials provides you with mill able options for both tooth and tissue borne clasping. In some instances, all from one puck. Converting to these new processes may require little to no change in how your production already operates. Most laboratories with a CAD/CAM department may already be setup to complete this process and not even realize it. These new restorations are lightweight, strong, polish easily, and can be milled in-house. Kris Shermerhorn, CDT will paint you a clearer picture on what you may need, what you might already have and how to process your final product. These state of the art offerings to your client base with new and innovative material choices give you the foundation to recognize new revenue streams by taking removeable digital.

#ECDLSPIRITVALUE FIRST! CONTROLLING THE LIGHT AT FIRST CONTACTSkip Carpenter CDT Saturday 8:00a-9:45a | Location: Concord C-D 1.5 hours Scientific creditBelieve it or not with today’s restorations being more all-ceramic than ever before, it has never been more important to understand and comprehend the principles of reflection, refraction, and diffusion. Though the most prevelant structures, lithium disilicate, and zirconia oxide have various degrees of color and translucency, mastery of both correct color and value can often seem hard to achieve simultaneously. Repeat after me, “Color is color and value is value.”Skip uses the most common effects found in natural teeth (cracks, halos, and mamelons) in a way that will filter, reflect, and ultimately control light, color, and value. Regardless of the core material, Mr. Carpenter’s Value First! approach in achieving lifelike restorations is not to be missed. Learning objectives include understanding the source of color and value; dispelling the myths of translucency; using common effect to assist in controlling light; and how to create both bright and believable restorations.

DIGITAL DENTURES: NEW OPTIONS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR REMOVEABLE DEPARTMENTVincent Verderosa CDT Saturday 8:00a-9:45a | Location: Concord G-H 1.5 hours Scientific credit with appreciation to Zahn DentalLet’s explore how modern digital denture CAD/CAM technology can create time and problem-solving efficiencies. With various options and opportunities, we will show new techniques to eliminate common issues like porosities, acrylic short packs, and tooth shift. This lecture will cover the complete processes of creating a digital denture from the design and try-in to the finished product. We will discuss how an open line of communication between the dentist and laboratory are critical in creating comfortable and functional dentures. We will review three clinical case studies that highlight the flexibility of the digital process.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONMULTIPLE-IMPLANT RESTORATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR THE EDENTULOUS PATIENTAndrew J. Bock DDS & Tom Wade CDT Friday 10:00a-11:45a | Location: Concord A-B 2.0 hours Scientific credit with appreciation to Nobel BiocareUtilizing a prosthetically driven plan for implant placement, the All-on-4 treatment concept for surgery and immediate-load provisionals, and final restorations featuring CAD/CAM milled titanium bar prostheses.

LUNCH 'N LEARNFINDING THE EXTRA TO TAKE YOUR TEAM FROM ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARYMolly de Mattos Saturday 12:00p-1:15p | Location: Enter through Exhibit Hall 1.5 hours Professional Development credit (NCDLA/SCDLA/ECA Members Only!)Ever wonder why some teams win over and over and over...and other teams don't seem to achieve so much? We will talk about the strategies and tools that you can take away to help create winning teams in YOUR world. Whether your "team" is your family, your work team or even your recreation league dodgeball team, success can be predictable and duplicated when you learn how to find your EXTRA!

ALL WHITEPEAKS ZIRCONIA, PEEK FRAMEWORK, AND ROTARYRichard "The Wizard" Wodzinski CDT Saturday 3:30p-4:30p | Location: Concord C-D 1.0 hours Scientific credit with appreciation to WhitePeaks Dental SolutionLearn how to design a PEEK framework for All-on-4 hybrid and zirconia while adjusting with WhitePeaks rotary!

OWNERS/MANAGERS ROUNDTABLEAmy Packer CDT & David Burrell CDT (moderators) Saturday 3:30p-4:30p | Location: Concord G-H 1.0 hours Professional Development creditThis is an informal discussion about topics of interest to you and your laboratory. Page 15: OF DENTAL LABORATORIES - Eastern Conference · program guide, and find your own winning TEAM combination at Eastern Conference! The Eastern Conference of Dental Laboratories is the

A few years ago, the Membership Services Committee introduced the Eastern Conference Alliance membership concept to the NCDLA Board of Directors in an effort to better serve neighboring laboratories and technicians that did not have access to a state association. Although NCDLA has always extended membership opportunities to non-resident individuals and laboratories, many of our state supporters want to be more involved, something that wasn’t possible following the previous NCDLA bylaws structure. There were no voting positions reserved for out-of-state supporters.

After several meetings and much research, goals were defined and plans evolved. We began developing an Eastern Conference membership under the NCDLA’s umbrella and rolling all of the current non-resident and technical members into a new category… the Eastern Conference Alliance. (Catchy, right?)

As the general membership gathered during the 2015 Eastern Conference, a movement began. The primary goal of the new membership category is to give the out-of-state folks what they have wanted for so long… a vote, a voice, a place to truly belong. Not to mention the best place to get CE and top shelf education without traveling to more expensive locations. This has been a longtime vision of the NCDLA Board of Directors.

Mission accomplished! The Eastern Conference Alliance was launched in January 2016.

The Eastern Conference Alliance (ECA) membership fills the need requested by our former non-resident members and opens doors to our neighboring states that may not have a state association and most likely do not have the volunteers and funds to create one. Further, it presents new opportunities for potential leadership roles within the NCDLA structure.

Former President James Grady has been a key supporter of the concept of unity beyond our state’s boundaries to build something better for our industry and is passionate about growing a stronger organization and a powerful Eastern Conference meeting. While the process to arrive at the final plan was a bit lengthy, the result is promising as we give a voice to those who want to be heard.

Help us spread the exciting news! Tell friends and colleagues in our neighboring states about these new opportunities to get involved as active participants or potential leadership.
