PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Dear Parishioners: One Sunday, a family was talking about the

Mass on their way home. The father said to his wife, “The homily was horrible today.” The mother nodded in agreement, “Yeah. And the choir sang off key, too.” Their small son, who was listening to everything his parents said, responded, “It seemed okay to me, especially since it only costs us one dollar!”

Sadly, this is how people view everything nowadays. They measure everything in terms of money. They worry about how much money they can get. And they only pray that God give them what they want – whenever they want it.

This Sunday, called Stewardship Sunday, is a reminder to us that there’s a better approach in life. It begins with the recognition that we are not owners but stewards. Everything has been given to us not to own but to manage. “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return” (Job 1:21). Even our very life is on borrowed time. No matter how good or how long our life here on earth is, it is only temporary. It will eventually become just a dash on our tombstone between the year of our birth and the year of our death.

Recognizing that everything comes from God and belongs to God, we realize that anything we do for God and His Church is really minimum in comparison to what He has done for us first. We are not paying for services, we are rendering gratitude. And true gratitude has no limit.

Yes, many of us are concerned about our financial situation. We would like to give more to the Church, but we don’t know how – there are just too many debts, too many obligations. We just can’t seem to save enough for our future. But, at the same time, we need to be careful not to fall into the temptation of selfishness: “Let other people worry about themselves; I can only care for myself and my family!”

There is really only one way to give thanks to God: by beginning to give. No matter how small, we have to begin somewhere. If we do not part

with our first dollar, we will never be able to give our first $10 or $100 or $1000. In thanksgiving for all that we have received from God, may we all render Him worthy gratitude.

LIVE STATIONS OF THE CROSS In order to meditate more fully on the Passion

and Death of our Savior on Good Friday, we are planning to act out the 14 Stations of the Cross as we process on the streets this year. 神父的话 主爱的兄弟姐妹：

一个星期天，一家人在回家的路上谈论当天的

弥撒。爸爸对他的太太说：“今天的讲道真是太

差劲了。”妈妈点头表示同意，说：“是啊。而且

唱经班也唱跑调了。”他们的小儿子，听到他爸爸

妈妈说的每一句话，也说道：“我觉得还行，尤其

才花了我们的一块钱而已！” 可悲的是，这就是当代人看待任何事物的态

度。他们用金钱来衡量每一件事情，他们担心的是

能拿到多少钱，而且他们只向天主祈求他们所想

要的——在任何他们想要的时候。

这个星期天被称为“管家主日”，提醒我们生

活中还有一个更好的观点，就是先认识到我们不

是物主，而是管家。天主给我们的一切不是让我们

拥有，而是管理。“我赤身脱离母胎，也要赤身归

去”（约 1:21）。甚至我们的生命也是借来的时间。

不管我们在世上的生命有多好或多长，它也仅仅

是暂时的，最终将变成我们墓碑上从出生年月日

到死亡年月日之间的破折号。

认清所有的一切都来自天主并属于天主，我们

意识到，我们为天主及他的教会所做的一切，和他

首先为我们做的比较起来，实在是微不足道。我们

不是为受到的服务付费，我们是在表达感激之情，

而真正的感恩是没有限度的。

是的，我们中很多人都在担忧经济情况，我们

愿意给教会更多，但我们不知道怎么做——实在

是太多的债务，太多的负担了，我们就是觉得为将

来存不够钱。可是，同时我们要小心，不要陷入自

私的诱惑之中：“让其他人操心他们自己去吧；

我只能为我自己和我的家人担忧！”

感谢天主实在是只有一个方法：

那就是给予。不管多么少，我们需要

开始做。如果我们不能给出一块钱，

我们永远不会给出十块，或一百块，

或一千块。让我们用相称的感恩之情

来报答我们从天主那里接受的一切。

教区移民日 布禄仑主教迪马守将于11月18日（星期六）

下午两点在圣若瑟主教座堂（856 Pacific St,

Brooklyn）主持教区移民日弥撒。这是一台多元

化、不同族裔的感恩献祭，参与的人仕代表教区

各移民团体。不同民族将穿着美丽、色彩鲜艳的

各国民族服装，并选唱不同民族的圣咏。我们堂

区将提供巴士免费接送，鼓励教友踊跃参加。请
