ODOUR SURVEY PROCEDURE
SITE: WASTE MANAGEMENT OF CANADA CORPORATION 2301 CARP ROAD OTTAWA You are being asked to conduct an odour survey based on your observations at various locations surrounding WMCC’s Carp Road landfill site. Start the survey as close to the landfill site as possible, noting the general wind direction. Mark the wind direction on the map supplied. Conduct observations upwind and downwind of the site. If landfill odour is detected, branch out and determine the extent of the odour. If observation is near a residence, indicate the address on the attached form and mark 1 through 6 on the map provided. There may be other odour sources, such as liquid manure application, waste transfer station at corner of Carp Road and Richardson Side Road, asphalt odours, etc. If other sources of odour are detected indicate these on the form. Odour Intensity: 0 - no odour 1 - odour just detectable 2 – distinct and definite odour 3 – strong and objectionable enough to cause a person to attempt to avoid it after a period of exposure 4 – so powerful to be offensive and repulsive and bordering on being intolerable. 5 – overpowering, nauseating, intolerable odour Odour Type/Quality: Detail the odour as best you can with characteristic descriptors that may include rotten eggs, fishy, acidic, etc. ************************************************************************ If you smell the landfill site at any off-site location document on the observation sheet and contact the WMCC contact and advise them that you are doing MOE odour survey and that you are currently detecting odours from the landfill site at your location. Ask WMCC personnel if they are aware of any operational problems that would lead to off- site odours at that time. You do not need to wait for WMCC to arrive at your location. ************************************************************************ Fill the form out as completely and neatly as possible.
