New Director Vitens studies OCW / Watermanagement

“In december werd Rik vanTerwisga bestuursvoorzitter van Vitens. De voormalig directeur van organisatieadviesbureau Twynstra Gudde maakt zich verbazingwekkend snel de ins and outs van de waterwereld eigen. "Ik heb meteen de collegedictaten drinkwater van de TU Delft opgehaald", lacht Van Terwisga.”Source: (WaterForum Online, 25 March 2009)

Organisation• One editorial board for all related initiatives

Embedment in the organization: interwoven with other activities

• Portal for secondary education

Materials• Use in regular program• Stronger use of multimedia in different formats• More interactivity but in different ways (depending

on subject)• Gradual growth

Some financial considerations, financial sustainability.

• Current costs: around K€ 200 annually• Subsidy 2009/2010: K€ 100

Required for financial sustainability• Interwoven with marketing & communication

activities (cost reductions elsewhere)• Contribution to ‘the right student at the right

place’ (less drop-outs); better preparation of new students

• External recognition in terms of sponsorships or other types of support from external partners

Next steps Netherlands: Some statements for further debate during the workshop1) OCW should be higher on the agenda’s of the Ministry of

Education & Surf foundation 2) A lot of material is available but very difficult to access for

a broader audience. National promotion and infrastructure is necessary

3) OCW can be very relevant for Life Long Learners 4) Research around OCW/OER in the Netherlands should be

strongly supported5) Close cooperation between institutes will support the

reuse of materials and facilitate joint education.
