OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
This could be my last Presidents report, so firstly I would like to thank our
Committee for supporting me over the past year, and also most of our
wonderful members for supporting our club by helping at events and working
bees. It has been a busy year for me with all my other activities outside of
club, so even I haven’t been able to get to rallies as often as I would have
liked to.
We have run 3 events over the year and our Rotary raffle fundraiser, all of
these were great fundraisers for our club. All funds raised at these go back
into subsidising our rallies and clinics, and also the upkeep and improvement
of our grounds and facilities. If we didn’t run these events we would have to
substantially increase all of our fees - membership, rallies etc.
Although organising our events is a lot of work behind the scenes, at least
know with our strong membership when the time comes to help we are
eventually over-run with volunteers, which is fantastic to see.

Our AGM is being held at Baxter Tavern on the 16th of October at 7pm, please
ring Mum (Debbie) on 59788678 or 0428447339 if you are planning on
attending and staying for a meal as she needs to let them know numbers by
the end of the weekend, a small deposit of $10 a head is required for
anything over 20 people but we can pay this with club funds and then
members can reimburse club (via Mum) on the night. Our AGM is a time
when we hope our membership will come together at a social event (no
jodhpurs and horses, will we recognise each other), to discuss and plan what
we want to happen at club for the upcoming year, we value and look forward
to getting input from all of our members. We also nominate and vote in the
executive and general committee, and would love to see some new blood
come onboard our committees.
Our Xmas break-up will be on the 12th of December (Saturday), we will again
be running a teams horse trials – team of 3 riders, 1 rides dressage, another
rides show jumping and the other rides the cross country. Last year we had
18 teams with some people riding in different disciplines on different teams.
Please ring Mum (Debbie) and let her know if you hope to ride, and which
discipline/s and what level. There will be prizes for the placing teams, and
also prizes for the highest overall score in each discipline regardless of your
level. It was great fun last year from all the feedback, so we have decided to
run it again.
We will be doing a lot of work at the grounds in preparation for this event, so
we are asking that if anyone can help out please let us know. We will be
doing final setup on the Friday afternoon-December 11th, but Mike will be at
the grounds on several occasions prior to this mowing, whipper snipping and
chain sawing our cross country tracks, if any of our members are able to help
please contact Mike on 0418991164 so you can work out times that suit you
all, or perhaps he can meet you at the grounds and show you what needs
doing. After the mini event is finished (hopefully by 1pm at the latest) we will
all get together to enjoy food and stories with our friends, followed by the
presentation of our club awards for the year.
Please let Mum (Debbie) know if you are planning on attending the lunch, we
ask everyone to bring a small plate to share of either nibbles, salad or
dessert, club supplies meat and drinks(non-alcoholic unless you bring your
own), family members are welcome to come along to the lunch just let Mum
know how many when you ring in.
As always, happy and safe riding, Sammi.

*****SNAKE WARNING*****
Yes – it’s that time of the year again when snakes come out of hibernation.
Although horses have a mild immunity to snake venom,
snake bites can be fatal to horses particularly if they are
bitten on the nose or face. It can be very difficult to
detect the actual bite on a horse, so your first alert that
your horse may have been bitten by a snake are any (or
a combination) of the following symptoms:
Excessive sweating
Photosensitivity (light)
Gums turn bright purple
Elevated heart rate
Elevated respiratory rate
High temperature
Shaking
If the horse has been bitten on the nose, you may also notice some swelling.
The first thing to do if you suspect snake bite is to call your vet IMMEDIATELY! Try to keep the horse as still as possible
while you wait. If you can find the bite on a leg – place a pressure bandage above and below the puncture wounds. Be
aware that the horse may start fitting, so ensure your own safety as well.
The one to watch out for – the Tiger Snake
