Thank you! At our October 8 th meeting we will be discussing ideas for the January 2020 Meeting and a Mentoring Program for new members. These are suggestions that came in part from the survey. So please give some thoughtful consideration to those items as you are sewing along on your holiday quilting projects ….Or perhaps your quilts for the 2020 Show. I am looking forward to the Evening of Barn Quilts on October 8 th . We see numerous such quilts travel- ing in southern Wisconsin. On a street near us in Plainfield, I see one on a house that I often pass by. I should really knock on the door and meet the quilter who lives there. Maybe we can start a new urban trend. Greetings to the Guild! Now it really is Fall so we should begin to see the colors that always look so beautiful in a quilt….gold , rust, red along with all the green that this rain has brought. Certainly we are inspired by nature. Our September meeting was very invigorating. So please give some thoughtful consideration to those items as you are sewing along on your holiday quilting projects ….Or perhaps your quilts for the 2020 Show. I am looking forward to the Evening of Barn Quilts on October 8th. We see numerous such quilts travel-ing in southern Wisconsin. Quilts of Valor As the new Quilts of Valor person, I recently received 3 large bags of Patriotic Fabric. Anyone that is interested may go through this fabric to make a quilt or blocks for the Quilts of Valor. The VFW supports our Heritage Quilt Guild by providing a meeting place. In return we like to provide these Quilts to our Veterans who have given their all for our freedom. Veterans Day is coming up. It would be nice to be able to present any quilts for the Veterans at that time. Lets put our heads together to come up with a suitable pattern. Please call me if interested in any fabric, or working on a quilt. Would anyone be interested in working on Quilts of Valor as a bee/group? Hope to hear from any interested quilters. PERSONAL NOTES This part of the newsletter is to communicate any personal news items to the rest of the guild. Please send any personal news item to Bobbie Molony at [email protected] with the subject of “newsletter—personals” otherwise I might miss it. We want to share your life events with you. Anything worth sharing is accepted—weddings, births, deaths, illnesses or surgeries. We are a guild of friends and quilting sisters, and not strangers.

SOS refers to the SOS Children’s Village located at the SW corner of Bruce Road and Briggs Street. This is a live-in facility for children who cannot live with their parents. SOS kindly lets us use a work room with storage space in exchange for quilts for the children. A win-win situation for all.

SOS QUILTING

SOS Quilting usually meets monthly, on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 9AM to 3PM. If SOS needs the room for meetings, we will get cancelled, so check here to see if the sewing day has been cancelled. Drop in anytime, or bring your machine and spend the whole day, it is up to you. Refreshments are usually there, and if you plan on spending the whole day, bring your own lunch. You can contribute time to making quilts for the kids at SOS, or you can bring your own projects to complete. WE DESPERATELY NEED QUILT TOPS QUILTED!

SOS Village Work Days Please note there will be no SOS sewing in December.

2019

Oct 19 Nov 16 There will be no sewing in December. 2020 dates will be published as soon as they are available.

Over the summer we delivered 8 quilts in June and 9 quilts in July to SOS! That is impressive!. We desperately need tops quilted. You all have been very generous sewing tops, we have batting, and we’ve used donated fabric to put backs together but they need to be quilted. The quilting can be very simple. Hopefully some of you who quilt on your home machines can help us out. As school supplies are out in stores, remember we need to fill stockings. We have enough pencils and pens but can use glue sticks, and markers. Please bring them to our October meeting.

Just checking in—how is your little 24 x 24 quilt moving along? I cannot wait to see what everyone comes up with. And just to reiterate that if you are overwhelmed with design ideas—that’s entirely OK—you can submit more than one! Anything with WINGS will work. I accidently found in my stash an applique/embroidery piece with a butterfly. And then I found some fabric with a Pegasus print—you know—that winged horse? That is going to be the border! So hardly any work at all, and it’s pulling itself together! If you have never tried to do anything with collage quilting or thread painting—if these terms sound like Greek to you—this might just be the perfect small scale project to test your own Creative Wings! After all, it’s only a 24 inch square—what could possibly go wrong? If you don’t like it, it is only a small amount of fabric—not a king sized quilt that is going to cost oodles and gobs of money and energy. Give it a try, and as the saying goes—jump right in, the water’s fine! At the very least how about a flying geese quiltlet—after all—geese have wings, don’t they? And there is always that old standby block Birds in the Air.

We hope you will consider doing something/anything along these lines.

Looking forward to an explosion of creative energy! Give one of us a call if you want to chat. The 2 Bobbies (Hunley and Molony)

A note from the STRIP LADY—Betty Drzal From the stripper lady: Welcome back quilters. Hope you have been saving your fabric strips over the summer. I will be accepting all your donations of strips and/or yardage at the October meeting Thanks to all...........Betty Drzal

2020 Quilt Show

Travelers needed for the Raffle Quilt The Raffle Quilt is gorgeous! We need to get it out to be seen by as many people as possible. In the past, we have taken the quilt to other Guilds to be seen. Anyone that would be willing to go to another Guild and sit with the quilt, to sell raffle tickets, PLEASE call me! This is a big money maker for us, so we really need to take it as many places as possible. It can be fun to visit another Guild, to see what they are doing. We have about 10 other Guilds that we can visit between now and the time of the Quilt Show, September, 2020. There will be a sign-up sheet at the October meeting.

Please call Judy Gaines, to sign up, or share ideas. 815-545-2938

Fat of the Month

BROWN-TAN-BEIGE-RUST

Special thanks to all that donated blue fat quarters last month. Those of you that forgot to bring one, can add it to the basket this month. A gentle reminder....a fat quarter measures 18 inches x 21 inches.

Split the Pot

Congrats to Teresa Davis for winning the September $85 pot!

Don't forget your $$$$ for Split The Pot. The funds collected for the last show cov-ered postage, thank you notes, tote bags, ribbon, wrappings and purchase of items for the baskets. Because of your support, the raffle baskets were a total profit for the show.

SPECIAL REQUEST FROM THE VFW

The VFW found an old post flag in storage and they do

not want to toss it in the trash. It is a two sided flag and

they would like some items made from it. They have

requested a pillow and a wall hanging (maybe mounted

and framed) made from the center medallions and may-

be something else from the rest of the flag. There will

be plenty of fringe for a pillow. If anyone would be

interested in taking on this task, please contact Gwen

Malinowski.
