SCRIPTURE READINGS
First Reading: Isaiah 5:1-7 This passage about the failure of the Lord’s vineyard is a metaphor for the ingratitude of the people of Israel and Judah. In tones of sad-ness, the Lord asks, “What more was there to do for my vineyard?”
Second Reading: Philippians 4:6-9 In a moving appeal to the Philippians, Paul exhorts them to embrace all that is pure, decent, and admirable; then God’s peace will be theirs.
Gospel: Matthew 21:33-43 In another rebuke to the chief priests and the elders, Jesus recounts a parable in which the owner of a vineyard leases his vineyard to tenant farmers. When the owner sends his servants and even his son to claim his rightful share of the crops, the tenants kill all of them. With some bitterness, Jesus warns the chief priests that “the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to people that will yield a rich harvest.”

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
every Tuesday with Fr. Tim • 9:30 - 11:00 AM • Chapel
Read the upcoming Sunday Scriptures • Reflect • Discuss
1) How does God provide for you? How often do you think about the blessings God brings into your life? How can your actions and attitudes be an expression of your dependence on God?
2) To what extent is gratitude part of your prayer of petition?
3) What are some examples of how people can produce fruit in God’s world today?
4) The Jewish leaders rejected Jesus because they were not open to his message. How can we be more receptive to God’s presence in our life? How can our attitudes towards others produce fruit in God’s kingdom?
MONDAY, OCTOBER 9 - Parish Offices CLOSED (in observance of Columbus Day)

MARY’S CARING MINISTRY Dear Senior Parishioners,
In our ongoing quest to better serve the community, we thought it is time to have a Seniors Group. We know many of our seniors are already busy serving our parish through their good works of church maintenance, administration, Faith Formation, Bible Study, Eucharistic Ministry, and Lecturing.
The purpose of the new group is to give our over 55 parishioners an opportunity to gather, pray and share their collective wisdom so we as a Good Shepherd community can continue to deepen our relationships and grow towards God.
We are conducting a survey to assess whether there is interest in starting a Good Shepherd Seniors Group.
The survey can be found in the atrium near the bul-letin board and will take only 5 minutes to complete.
Thank you in advance for your input.

Your gift to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal helps bring this important work to life, since Catholic Charities receives the largest percentage of Appeal funding.
Your help is needed to continue providing this urgent care. Please be as generous as your means will allow to the 2017 Bishop’s Annual Appeal. Thank you!

FAITH FORMATION NOTES
The Mass and Children

Please show your support for our young parishioners with a warm smile and an en-
