Weekly Newsletter

In an effort to keep parents informed about cybersafety, we will periodically post information about online safety. The following is

an excerpt from U.S. Attorney’s Internet Safety Guide for Parents.

What can you do to keep your children safe in cyberspace?

First and foremost, talk to your children openly and frankly. Be available to answer questions and concerns. Let

them know about Internet dangers including identity theft, exposure to explicit or violent material, and preda-

tors. Make it safe for them to come to you with concerns about people they’ve met online, when an inappropri-

ate pop up appears or someone sends inappropriate materials to them and if someone harasses or threatens

them online.

Educate yourself and your children about the risks involved in Internet use. People can pretend to be anyone,

and their intentions are often times not good. Use separate user profiles, content filtering software and/or your

web browser’s Internet history to monitor and filter what your child is doing on the Internet.

Sock it to ‘em

September 29th - October 10th Do you know you can make a BIG difference in the world by donating socks? The Burrito Project South Pasadena helps feed the homeless in Downtown Los Angeles by providing burritos, water, and articles of clothing for the less fortunate. This autumn, each STM class is encouraged to donate new socks (for adults) to help the homeless keep warm and dry during the cold rainy days. By listening to the cry of the poor, you are personifying the message of Jesus through your good works. Your kindness and generosity will be greatly appreciated and hand-delivered. Plus, the class who collects the most socks will win a “Sundae Party” on October 10th. Thank you for your support and cooperation in making this world a better place. God Bless you!

Dear Parents,

This Halloween, St. Thomas More School students are strongly encouraged to

collect more than candy. As a school-wide mission, from now until our annual

Halloween Festival, we would like to participate in “One Sight,” which focuses on

giving. “One Sight” is part of a national collection drive conducted annually by Give

the Gift of Sight, a family of charitable vision care programs sponsored by the

LensCrafters Foundation in conjunction with Lions Clubs International. Each year,

LensCrafters volunteers and doctors help more than 500,000 people worldwide.

According to the World Health Organization, one-fourth of the world needs

corrective eyewear, but many people, especially those in developing countries do

not have access to it. Give the Gift of Sight sponsors optical missions to developing

countries such as Mexico, Bolivia, Laos, Thailand, and to people in need across

North America. Volunteers from the Gift of Sight Foundation and Lions Clubs

International clean, repair, and classify the prescriptions and then hand-deliver them

to people in developing countries.

Give the Gift of Sight Foundation and Lions Clubs International invite you to lift

the spirits of people in need by collecting used eyeglasses and sunglasses. Send

the eyeglasses/sunglasses with your child to the office and help the world see this

Halloween. Thank you in advance for your support and God bless you.
