Dear Parents and Guardians,Each year it is our responsibility as a caring Catholic community, to provide a curriculum that teaches the students appropriate boundaries and personal safety. The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People requires the archdiocese to ensure that all children in both day school and parish school of religion programs receive information that allows them to participate in their own personal safety. The curriculum “Safe Touch” is taught by a specially trained educator and is age appropriate. The lessons focus on safety in a non-threatening manner and consist of one class period. The goal of the curriculum is to provide students with safety tools they can use immediately. As an additional resource for you, Netsmartz.org is a free educational website for educators and parents that provides helpful information, games, videos, and activities that reinforce technology safety in an age appropriate and fun manner.
The Safe Touch curriculum was developed in partnership with West County Psychological Associates, the Archdiocesan Safety Committee, as well as educators and school administrators. The curriculum includes technology safety and provides information for you as the parent . It is our hope that you take an active role to review the materials that you will be receiving at home. Please continue to reinforce these ideas and rules by asking your child questions, actively monitoring your child’s online behavior and participating in any activities that may be sent home.
If you have any questions or would like to preview the materials prior to the curriculum being presented, please contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Horner. You may also choose to opt out if you prefer your child only receive this information from you at home. An “Opt Out” form will be provided and must be signed and returned. A parent curriculum will be provided that you can teach your child at home. St. Ambrose students in kindergarten through grade 8 will be taught the Safe Touch lesson by Mrs. Horner sometime during the second quarter.

MIDDLE SCHOOL MATHCOUNTS AFTER SCHOOL ON TUESDAYS
MATHCOUNTS IS is a national organization that reaches students in grades 6-8 in all US states and
territories with extracurricular programs. More than a quarter million students participate in
MATHCOUNTS. The goal is to make math learning fun with problems, activities and games that challenge
students to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The program builds positive attitudes about
math so students embrace challenges and expand their opportunities both academically and in the
future.
MATHCOUNTS is open to any middle school student as an extracurricular. We meet most Tuesdays after
school from 3-4PM in the penthouse with Mrs. Horner. You do not have to apply, just show up to be
challenged and have fun! There will be a school-wide MATHCOUNTS competition in January and top
winners can qualify to go on to the area competition in February.
If you have questions, contact Mrs. Horner

Maria Teresa Goretti is an Italian virgin-martyr of the Catholic Church, and one of the youngest saints to be canonized. She is the patron saint of chastity, rape victims, girls, youth, teenage girls, poverty, purity, and forgiveness.
Padre Pio, also known as Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, O.F.M. Cap., was a friar, priest, stigmatist and mystic, now venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. Born Francesco Forgione, he was given the name of Pius when he joined the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin.
Maximilian Maria Kolbe OFM Conv. was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar who volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the German death camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II.
Saint Alphonsa, F.C.C., was an Indian religious sister and educator. She was the first woman of Indian origin to be canonized as a saint, and the first canonized saint of the Syro-Malabar Church, an Eastern Catholic Church based in Kerala. Her feast day is observed on 28 July

It's looking like it might be an 'early' influenza season, we've seen some indication of that on the hospital side. The CDC has also started putting out that message. It would be a good idea for families to get their shots sooner rather than later.

•Due to such a large, positive response to our new shadow program, we are pushing back our admissions application deadline to Friday, December 6th. We do have a small wait list right now for shadowing and will fill spots as best we can. I would ask for your understanding in allowing students to "change their minds" with their transcript release if it is necessary. I know this is not ideal, but am confident that it will not affect a large number of students. •Applicants will no longer be required to indicate SLUH as their first choice in order to qualify for our new Merit Scholars Program. ALL students who apply are required to take the Scholastic High School Placement Test and can qualify from that for an award. This test will be offered at SLUH on Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th. Upon completion of our online application, applicants are prompted to register for a suitable date through their SLUH Admissions Account.
